Just that

To ask if this looks like a normal ecg

It's not the best photo and even if it was I wouldn't be seeking advice from a lot of random people online - do you have specific concerns? Presumably it was requested by a doctor in real life who could advise you? Interpretation of ECGs is not straightforward and would also involve understanding the clinical background.

MissMoneyFairy · 04/02/2026 19:28

It's a bit blurry, us it your evg, why did you have it done, what did the technician, nurse or doctor suggest.

That's right, plus any known heart problems, medication, blood results etc.

ImmortalJillyCooper · 04/02/2026 19:31

It looks normal to me but I’m just a random on the internet.

Charliede1182 · 04/02/2026 19:38

It would be better if the photo was taken from directly above it but it looks normal to me. Nice regular sinus rhythm.

You are not being unreasonable at all.

A healthcare system that leaves someone trying to get their fecking ECG read on the internet is definitely unreasonable.

If someone has a medical test, they are entitled to be told the result, promptly and in full.

Yes but many people trained to perform an ECG aren’t actually trained to interpret them.

Doctors are trained to interpret but it might be beneath most of them to actually do one!

It may be the OP has been told the result in full and is seeking second opinions online.

It's unusual, for a patient to be given the ecg without anyone reviewing it, where was it taken.

BeautifulSongsofLove · 04/02/2026 20:36

It's unlikely that any healthcare facility would have discharged you home with a copy of your ECG (presumably to give to your GP?) if it wasn't normal.

See your GP,/follow advice given, or if experiencing chest pain/discomfort, shortness of breath, palpitations, with feeling unwell -lightheaded/dizzy, sweating, then go to A&E/call 999

olympicsrock · 04/02/2026 20:38

Yup looks normal ( with the caveat that the view is not brilliant) .

Brentinger · 04/02/2026 20:43

There's an AI app you could use to interpret them - if the photo angle works. Easy to find online

randomchap · 04/02/2026 20:48

No one can advise on a blurry ECG photo posted with no medical history.

If you want a second opinion ask for one, go to pals if needs be.

mindutopia · 04/02/2026 20:53

I have ECGs quite regularly. The nurse always takes it away after it’s done to have it looked at and comes back to confirm it’s fine. Unless they’ve told you it’s not, it’s almost certainly fine.

Teenmumgoingcrazy · 04/02/2026 20:55

Yes yabu- I’m guessing most if us are not trained to read an ecg so what’s the point?!

itsgettingweird · 04/02/2026 21:00

I have ecgs every 2 weeks and there a bit on it that makes comments (eg sinus rhythm normal or sinus bradycardia).

Mine is then reviewed by a GP before I’m even allowed to leave the surgery.

That alongside the BP results I have to do in their machine and enter before each ecg which are also reviewed.

mine are then uploaded immediately onto the nhs app.

Ove been told even though results may indicate abnormal ecg an BP (my BP is low and sometimes sinus rhythm bradycardic) that’s just a tool reading what’s in front of them and they read the results in conjunction with the patient, any symptoms and other knowledge.

for example I’m on verapamil for chronic cluster headaches so a low BP and HR isn’t unexpected as they were normal before treatment commenced and the ech are specifically looking for signs of cardio conduction.

FelicityBeedle · 04/02/2026 21:11

If I’m not mistaken I see the machines auto interpretation at the top but not legible. OP if you’re concerned about it saying something that the medics haven’t addressed, dont be. The auto results are notoriously unreliable and if noticed by a patient can worry them unnecessarily

Lavenderandbrown · 04/02/2026 21:17

It IS a difficult angle for me to interpret but it looks normal sinus rhythm or sinus tachycardia meaning a minimally elevated heart rate. You have a clear discernible P wave you have a normal QRS complex and a normal ST segment. Your R to R segment is even and consistent. In this particular ekg I do not see any abnormal beats like a pvc or pac. You could have PVC or PAC but
it was not captured on this particular ekg. Is there something in particular you are concerned about OP?

Or maybe it is because it not the best use of staff, time and resources?
Why stop there? Doctors could also do the portering, phlebotomy, book appointments, answer the calls at reception, drive the patient transport ambulances etc.

And yes, I am annoyed, because I take on a lot of risk in my work for which I am highly trained (as are most/all of my colleagues), I make hundreds of decisions every day that will have a huge impact or consequence, maybe not immediately but at some point.
I took on extra urgent cases today and will do tomorrow, so patients’ cancer treatment is not delayed and the other work that I would have done will need to be done in my own time.
When things don’t work - pathways, systems, processes - it always comes back to us to fix.
So yes, sure, I will do the ECG instead.
Cheers for the disparaging comment, hope it made you feel superior.

longdays · 05/02/2026 08:19

OP did you take this photo whilst in the GP surgery whilst the person who did it had their back turned? Is it even your ECG?

I wondered too, the piece of paper above looks like it could be blood results

Of course it’s mine why would I take a picture of someone else’s ecg. It was in a hospital not a gp

The photo of it is not good enough to interpret accurately and any medic (or one claiming to be) of any kind attempting to do so is being monumentally stupid.

MissMoneyFairy · 05/02/2026 15:34

Did anyone explain the result to you

Well I take it you're not a medic as despite the blur it’s still clear enough to interpret. Perhaps there are some subtleties that a cardiologist might pick up, but it’s good enough if you want to get a general idea from Internet randoms.

I am a paramedic. Any medical professional saying they can competently interpret that from a photo like that is an absolute liability and should be struck off.
