My Neighbour is 'borrowing' my whole CD collection

We have very nice staunchly christian next door neighbours. One day the husband asked to 'borrow' a 'few' of my husband's quite extensive cd collection and we of course agreed - no problem.

It transpires the next door neighbour is copying them to his MP3 player and has now been into the house on numerous occasions returning the 'few' and then asking to borrow a 'few' more. He has now borrowed hundreds of pounds worth and I'm not over happy about it but feel it would be out of place to say no.

What to do.....

Say no.

WillburyNibbleQC · 14/06/2008 16:56

Although it wouldn't bother me, tbh.

honeybehappy · 14/06/2008 16:57

I dont understand why you want to say no what harm is he doing to you?

charliecat · 14/06/2008 16:57

what are you not happy about, ask if you can see whats on his shelves, save yourself some cash.

I think the christianity aspect is because it's basically copyright theft isn't it?

As long as he wasn't borrowing them for months on end it really wouldn't bother me. Invite yourself in for coffee and have a nose around at things in his house you might want to borrow. Or, if it really bothers you, lend him some rap music with very unchristian lyrics.

muggglewump · 14/06/2008 17:48

Huh?
You don't want to lend out your CDs
Tell him no then but you are being weird

I wouldn't give two hoots personally.
AS long as he only had them for a few days, and was always treating them right I wouldn't mind.

I'll lend anything I have so long as it comes back in the same condition.
I find it odd that someone would begrudge that

bubblagirl · 14/06/2008 18:16

we all family and friends borrow each others cd's and copy them its not as if he can sell them on or make money you are just allowing him to get music on his mp3 that he other wise wouldnt be able to do

me personally dont see a problem they are obviously nice people and no doubt would lend you things if you wanted

as we in my family do this all the time i of course wont se aproblem my friends and family between us have extensive collection

I'd be a bit miffed, tbh. It's very one sided.

I think the point is how they would react, if they would share just as much then I'd be cool, but if they were a bit frugal with their stuff and weren't happy to lend I'd be pissed.

"..you are just allowing him to get music on his mp3 that he other wise wouldn't be able to do"

Ermm - Couldn't he buy it like the rest of us?

Dittany - Thanks ..I like the "can I copy your whole CD collection onto my MP3?". It's beginning to feel that way!

Seem to be in the minority though.

I wouldn't lend any. I strongly disagree wiht any illegal copying. If he likes/wants the music that much, he should buy it.

We have borrowed CDs from relatives to listen to and see if we like it, but we would never ever copy it. If we like it and think it's worth the money, we buy it. If we don't like it enough to buy it, we don't have it.

I just think it's stealing from the copyright owner. Totally dishonest.

cocolepew · 14/06/2008 18:37

Next time say in a 'jokey' way, "so when am I getting my present for saving you all this money you tight fisted git?
