To ask which collagen you have taken that has improved joint health.

I am looking for recommendations for collagen that has improved joint pain and mobility. Obviously if you’ve had added benefits such as skin/digestive benefits then I’d be glad to hear those too 😁

I take willpowders Swiss bovine, it’s the only one I’ve ever noticed a difference after taking and I’ve tried nearly all of them. Marine made my nails grow quickly tbf.

Collagen is a fad. All proteins are broken down into amino acid when they're digested, and once your body absorbs them, it will make the proteins it needs (the majority of which won't be collagen). Just increase the amount of protein in your diet and save your money for gentle exercise and a physio if you don't pay for this already.

Radiatorvalves · 31/01/2026 12:26

OP I’m wondering the same. I’m 55, have a good balanced diet, my knees are v creaky and if collagen would help, I’d go for it. I’m size10/12 and weigh 63kg and do a lot of cycling and walking and a bit of Pilates. I seem to be inundated with ads for collagen and it’s difficult to know whether it’s complete bollocks or worth a go.

You know deep down it’s a fad.

The right kind of load bearing exercise and strength training for your ability/experience etc. Sufficient protein intake. Healthy weight.

It's bollocks unfortunately. If your diet is good, then you will be making all the collagen you need. Vitamin D and omega-3s are important for joint health as well as protein, so make sure you are getting these. Glucosamine and chondroitin could be considered but the clinical evidence for this is weak (but certainly stronger than for collagen, plus it's cheaper).

gamerchick · 31/01/2026 12:52

Bovine powder. Has around 18g protien per serving.

People keep saying it's a con, but all I know you don't see any difference using it until you run out of the stuff. That's good enough for me. While it's in my every day diet, my joints don't hurt as much as they do without it.

I have the Willpowders bovine collagen too, been knocking around in the kitchen for ages and not used it. Just started WLI so have been adding it to a coffee for around a week. How long did it take for you to notice a difference? (Not expecting instant results!) Thanks.

YourAdeptFinch · 31/01/2026 12:57

I've been taking Inspiriko marine collagen for nearly a year now. Yes I know the science suggests it's a fad but for me the joints and mobility improvements are unmistakeable and transformational. I started to notice the difference about 4 months in. Different story on skin and hair - no noticeable changes.

I don't have specific mobility issues, just general aging. Am 60.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 31/01/2026 12:59

Op,

marine collagen is for skin, and hair , it’s more bio available than bovine and helps with joint stiffness.

Bovine is better for joint strength, cartilage repair, reduced inflammation.

I use marine collagen, applied nutritions and I think it makes a difference, but it does take up to six months of consistent usage to see a difference.

Murphs1 · 31/01/2026 13:02

thanks for your suggestions so far, I’m in my 50’s and have had knee surgeries and I am still recovering so trying to do all I can to improve my recovery.

I tried Nutrition Geeks which helped with my knee pains but unfortunately gave me toe pain, similar to how I imagined gout to feel. But that might just be me.

I've heard good things about Ancient & Brave as well as Willpowders on here but still undecided as to which one to go for.

JMSA · 31/01/2026 14:17

Hi OP. Have you tried taking magnesium?

Boobyslims · 31/01/2026 18:33

I am unsure too. I see a sports medicine consultant for a back issue (I run and cycle), I’m 51 if that’s relevant. He said collagen is a load of absolute bollox, he told me remain focused on a healthy balanced diet and all I need will be in there.

i can’t stand the ads, they all take the same approach “I was trying collagen, they were all crap until I tried <insert their brand collagen> and oh my god the difference! AND it tastes so good in my morning coffee <rattles sachet>”. Oh F off.

but that said, I am still a bit unsure!!!

WinterBlues26 · 31/01/2026 19:50

He said collagen is a load of absolute bollox, he told me remain focused on a healthy balanced diet and all I need will be in there.

GPs say that about vitamins too and yet so many people are deficient in Vitamins D, B12 and iron it's getting ridiculous. It's also well known that our soil is slowly becoming deficient in minerals and we can't guarantee we get all our needs met via diet alone.

I really wish people wouldn't come on to these threads and say it's a scam. Until you know people's medical records you haven't a clue. Maybe OP/others can't absorb the protein via the solids route and need it dissolved, similar to B12 absorption via injection. You just don't know.

MatchaTea1 · 31/01/2026 21:46

I've been using Ancient & Brave True Collagen for almost 2 years now - it may be a fad, but my joints feel 10 years younger than before I started and my hair is thicker and longer.

IsabellaCoral · 31/01/2026 21:54

I use a cheap one off Amazon. £15 for a
massive tub. 50 and no joint pain. No loss of hair, and nails are strong.

I really can’t see how the brand of collagen would make a difference. Just start taking it everyday and see if it helps.

pizzicato · 01/02/2026 00:05

I use Willpowders and noticed the improvement after a few weeks

Obvioushobbyist · 01/02/2026 00:18

I have just started Zooki super strength collagen. I started it for my face. Literally on 10 days in and no difference there. But actually now I read this I realise my dodgy knee hasn’t been creaking. And it was seriously annoying me 2 weeks ago.

I have just started zooki yesterday , mainly for painful back and knee .
Helping my face would be a good bonus lol

Oo goodluck!

I have figured out it’s most palatable for me with a glass of thick orange juice each morning. Took me a while to figure that out so sorry if you already knew!

Indeed, although the placebo effect is surprisingly powerful.

Falafelsprout · 01/02/2026 02:00

Get some pigs feet from a proper butcher boil em up, use the broth, my parents swore by this, good stuff

CrikeyNumpty · 01/02/2026 02:06

For the last few years took collagen Type I marine powder - it has filled in my hair, nails rock hard. However I wanted to take it for my creaking knees. It had no effect on them. However, liked my thicker hair so carried on.

Recently read somewhere that Type II is for joints. Bought cheap capsules and within a week my knees were 90% better. Now take every other day. Never expected them to work, was resigned to my knees hurting for the rest of my life. But happy to report they have made a difference despite the naysayers .
