Neighbour using my drive, landlord won’t help. What can I do?

I’ve lived in my house for almost 4 years now, and I had a new drive put in last year, which cost a fair bit. Parking on my street isn’t great anyway, but I’ve recently noticed that my neighbour is using my drive to get to hers. I’m not sure if she’s always done this as I’ve only just noticed. Last week, I caught her in the act while I was outside sorting the bins, and I think she was surprised to see me. I talked to her on Sunday and politely asked if she could stop, but she said it’s difficult for her because her neighbours car sticks out into the space in front of her house, which makes her partners van hang over their drive, so she can’t get in and out without driving over mine.

They can’t park the van on the drive and the car on the street because there’s a fence between our driveways, and the van is too big to fit with the fence there. It’s their fence, on their boundary line btw. I suggested they take it down, but they’re tenants and don’t want to pay for it, which is understandable. Apparently, they asked the landlord a few months back if he would remove it, and he said he was fine with it being taken down, but he wouldn’t cover the cost.

I was thinking about putting up my own fence to stop them, but my drive is already pretty narrow, and then there's the cost involved. I know I could just pay to have theirs taken down, but should I really have to fork out money just to make them stop using my drive? I know it’s a hassle for them, but they should either talk to their neighbours to see if they can leave them more space on the road or have another chat with the landlord about the fence. They’re making this my problem, and I don’t think it’s fair for them to just assume they can use my drive forever. It’s not a shared drive btw. They’re just next to each other, similar to new build estates.

Am I being unreasonable / petty, or are they taking the piss? I’ve attached a diagram. The black squiggles are cars, and the red one is my neighbours car crossing over my drive to get to hers.

Not really a problem surely, unless you are worrying about wear and tear on your drive. They are not obstructing your drive are they, or do they leave the back end of the vehicle on your drive?

They have already left multiple tyre marks from dry steering, which I know isn’t damage per se, but my drive is a light colour so they are easily visible, plus they weren’t there before and aren’t from me 🤷🏼‍♀️. Yes, I could scrub them off, but I really shouldn’t have to imo. The section that they are driving over is probably weak spot too, as another poster mentioned, so over time there will be wear and tear, which I doubt they’ll pay for. Their own drive has started to crumble at the top now too

Get some boulders , just make sure they are too heavy for her to mess around with. Failing that continue the fence with some picket fencing on your side of the boundary.,

While you wait to get the planters sorted I’d stick your car out further

Yes, well I’ve only just noticed them anyway. They are definitely not from my car. The angle of the marks are pointing towards her drive.

That sounds like a good plan. Frustrating that you have to go to this expense but sometimes the expense is worth it in the long run

hmm, maybe, but I put the bins out the other night in the same spot and I didn’t see them.

I did and can not see the issue
starting a neighbour war over this is so petty

Who started the war? The neighbour and her partner have both a drive and access to another off-road parking space in front of their property. Instead of working out an arrangement between themselves to accommodate both their vehicles they decided to go for the solution which caused them least stress and pushed the issue onto @9champions and her new and expensively paved driveway.

Maybe you need to ask your neighbours if they would like free use of your drive, bbq, greenhouse, hot tub, swimming pool, garden seating or whatever because it would be so petty to deny them if it made their lives easier.

yes, absolutely! I can’t be bothered messing around with buckets all the time and I think she’d just move rocks or planters lol

Be sure you get a camera too - your NDN has proven beyond measure she is a cunt, so I wouldnt out it past her to damage your planned new fence, just so that she can re-establish her cutting across your drive.

Yeah, another vote for fence and camera. You neighbour is quite sly and a CF

JoeyJava · 30/01/2026 21:17

I'd personally ask again, and they give the same reasoning, I'd suggest they take it up with THAT neighbour.

Give them a little time to do so, then threaten to have their car/van removed/clamped.

Basically, you have the same issue as your ndn, so solving the root cause solves everyone's problem.

nothanks2026 · 30/01/2026 21:55

Ignore the twat bags pretending they don't get it. They're lying.

And yes, also a vote for a fence and definitely a camera - actually a couple of cameras to make sure you catch her at it.

She was right though. The neighbour is moving OP’s property to drive off in her car, and then doesn’t even bother putting OP’s things back. Extremely entitled and cuntish behaviour.

Noshowlomo · 31/01/2026 10:16

@HelplessSoul I really admire your passion and your use of the word “cunt” 🤌🏼😂

You said a fence in your side would make your side narrower. So wouldn't it be easier & cheaper to remove their fence (as you already have their LL's permission)?

I'm not sure that'd be best here though. I think it'd just end up with the neighbours encroaching on her land even more so (out of spite)

Ok I cba looking into it again but I thought the NDN would be able to better access her own driveway if the fence wasn't there & that's why she'd asked if the LL could remove it?

if not, I'm not sure why the OP was on about removing it.

but as I said, I cba going back though if again.

Yes, that was the initial intent.
But since the OP put her foot down, the NDN has been a bit of a b×××h and started moving things on OPs driveway and even blocked her into her own driveway. So I think having an open drive between the two might just cause further issues.

Yeah I read her posts about the NDN moving the pots of gravel/stones. That would have pissed me off whereas the the using the drive wouldn't have.

j suppose it depends if she thinks having an open drive or a fence making her area smaller will bother her more.
