To think we shouldn’t have to contribute to soch if we don’t intend to use it?

For example, I don’t want a state pension - so I should surely be able to opt out of soch based contributions percentage. And just pay a lesser amount to cover anything I do take advantage of.

Op is mardy and bossy. Oh and ridiculous.

fashionqueen0123 · 27/01/2026 22:35

what on earth is Soch? Are you in another country?

Anyway you would have used the nhs from
birth so you’re already a user.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 27/01/2026 22:32

Contributions to tits?

😂

Sunflower3000 · 27/01/2026 22:36

nah, we’re having too much fun with you now

GardenCovent · 27/01/2026 22:36

I don’t know who a non nhs user would be?
I have private medical cover but if something happens to me and I need to visit a&e the ambulance would take me to a nhs hospital.
Who can possibly say they will never be a nhs user?

BlackCatDiscoClub · 27/01/2026 22:36

GrethaGreen · 27/01/2026 22:30

What do you mean non NHS- user.
If you collapse in the street tomorrow, an ambulance will be called and you are an NHS
user…

Can you imagine, the police call an ambulance to a road traffic accident, the paramedic says "oh hang on, this one opts out of the NHS" and kicks the body to the side of the road 🤣

Is this a piss take because someone called their pension a pench?

1apenny2apenny · 27/01/2026 22:37

I am happy to contribute for things that support society, to an extent. The issue I see is that those actually contributing are being expected to give more and more whilst governments give those not contributing more and more. They also in my view seem to encourage things that cost a lot but that don’t seem to benefit society as a whole eg lifting the 2 child cap.

At some point I have no doubt that those contributing will be told that actually they can’t have some of the things they need because there isn’t enough to go round and that’s when it will go very badly indeed - eg the state pension and healthcare.

PandoraSocks · 27/01/2026 22:38

I reckon this was an attempt at benefit bashing, but has gone very wrong.

0/10.

Viviennemary · 27/01/2026 22:38

No. Other exemptions perhaps. Paying for the NHS. Paying for schools. Think yourself lucky you don't need a state pension.

Acommonreader · 27/01/2026 22:39

slozenger · 27/01/2026 22:29

I think there are better ways - for example

If you want to use public services - pay more sosh.
If you do not - pay less, for example 1% discount for non NHS user.

I’m not sure how that would be workable and the cost of doing so would be massive. Also I’m sorry I have never heard of sosh- I’m in the Uk , maybe you are not?

They'd have to see her lanyard first, the one that states she's a non-NHS user. But supposing it's hidden under her coat? Oh but it'd be OK. The OP would weakly wave them away before quietly expiring by the side of the road.

How when literally not one person has mentioned benefits, apart from yourself? A state pension isn’t a benefit as such.

Don't say "stop"! Or is it "Stochp"?

I was just about to learn about your proposal for securtity contributions. I think my titties are reasonably secure already but I'm not getting any younger so (unlike some) I'm not going to pretend I might not need some help in that arena one day.

What are we talking? Bras? Or just shapewear? And most importantly will it look discrete under my Indian ethnic fashion?

YouLookLikeStevieNicks · 27/01/2026 22:40

Based on the fact you're calling it sosh, I'm guessing you're at an age where you don't have many years contributions left, so I wouldn't get worked up about it.

Unless you're expecting a refund?

AllTheChaos · 27/01/2026 22:40

slozenger · 27/01/2026 22:18

I never said I wanted to fully opt out, just a discount for what I won’t be using as I cost less to run.

And what about if you start costing more to run? The whole point is you cannot know if you want ll or not, and if you start costing more the taxpayer will cover it. Social contract - we won’t leave you to die in a gutter if you get sick and lose your job. I bet Bezos won’t be getting a UK pension, does that mean Amazon should get a tax discount?!

unsync · 27/01/2026 22:40

I'm starting to think that the OP would have benefitted from more 'soch' contributions into their education.

I started work in the 1980s, it was called NI then, and I still have my National Insurance number card that was sent to me back then.
