Nigella as new bake host

Just that really. Now she has been confirmed what are people's thoughts.

I'm not excited by Nigella would have preferred a Bake Off winner or former contestant maybe?

I know the celeb is is Cherish from the professionals one.

Would of loved some one a bit funnier and warmer the Nigella

I'm interested to see how Nigella delivers the role. I can't be bothered with the suggestiveness and innuendo and general fakeness of her own shows, but I think she's smart and versatile enough to dial that right down and approach GBBO with authority and just the right amount of warmth. And she has the overwhelming merit of appearing to enjoy eating rather than just having a technical interest in food.

(I wasn't convinced about Alison Hammond when she took the role, but have loved her GBBO persona from the start.)

LiveLuvLaugh · 26/01/2026 17:23

Love her. I could watch her all day. She’s a coup for GBBO

Mumptynumpty · 26/01/2026 17:24

Prue makes me gag when she talks after eating. It sounds like she has claggy food stuck in her throat 🤢

I might watch to see how Hollywood manages to be in the shadow of a more famous person.

TeaAndALemonTart · 26/01/2026 17:24

We won’t watch it on principle now. She’s a fucking disgrace

ScarlettOYara · 26/01/2026 17:30

I personally think it's a bad choice. I can't relate to her, I find her irritating and cringe worthy. If she was natural, she'd be fine, it's all the sexualised behaviour I dislike. However, she seems very popular so I'm probably in the minority.

ByWarmShark · 26/01/2026 17:45

Can't stand Paul H but love Nigella. I think she seems a genuinely lovely, warm, funny human, who has been through an awful lot and kept going with good humour and strength. She's worth 100 hollywoods

More famous!!! Don't make me laugh

Loooove Nigella. I’m a bit over Paul Hollywood thinking it’s the Paul Hollywood show. It’s certainly going to be an interesting dynamic. The husband has already suggested he might start watching it again after a 5 year hiatus. Predicable. It’s certainly opening up the audience demographics.

I agree. I wish Paul Hollywood would leave.
Hoping that Nigella will take up more space than Prue who seemed content to let PH be the star.

She is incredibly irritating with that stupid voice, stupid looks at camera, hair flicking etc. She thinks she is sexy but to a lot of people she is certainly not. She just looks idiot.

As to the stupid way she pronounces microwave - not funny in the slightest just showing off and stupid

simpsonthecat · 26/01/2026 17:50

I love Nigella! I've met her and she is lovely. Let's give Paul Hollywood a run for his money, she will.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 26/01/2026 17:56

I haven’t watched since it moved to c4 but I will give it a go with Nigella. All that pouting and faux naughtiness is just part of the shtick for those programmes she does/did. Am sure she will be lovely and supportive to the bakers and she’s a good sport.

Indianajet · 26/01/2026 18:00

Not keen on Nigella- I would have loved someone like Nancy.
I will probably give it a go to see how it works, but I am disappointed with the choice.

Talipesmum · 26/01/2026 18:20

I think she’s great - her recipes are excellent, we’ve been using them for years. I find her warm and friendly, and I’m sure plenty of the “sexy marketing” was heavily encouraged by the producers too. The microwavey thing was clearly a comedy joke, making a totally ordinary and sometimes disparaged-by-cheffy-types kitchen thing sound comically fancy.

Also like that she’s unlikely to play second fiddle to Paul “I think I’m the Head Judge” Hollywood. I really think that however good they are, any past contestants would have been seen as not-equal with him and we REALLY don’t need more of that dynamic.

I’m still really enjoying bake-off, and I really like Alison and Noel - so there!

caramac04 · 26/01/2026 18:41

cardibach · 26/01/2026 15:28

@caramac04 Bake Off is heavy on innuendo anyway - odd thing to be concerned about.

I don’t think Mary and Prue did the sex goddess innuendo that Nigella does so well though.
We shall see, Nigella is certainly skilled and experienced and might turn out to be great.

Paperwhite209 · 26/01/2026 18:45

I'm delighted that she's going to be doing it...my daughter, not so much 😂.

I don't mind PH these days but if they were to replace him with someone nerdier, my vote goes to Nigel Slater.

James Martin would also be great but I can't see it happening.

saveforthat · 26/01/2026 18:49

I love Nigella and hope she does a good job on GBBO. I never liked Alison Hammond at all before this but I think she is an excellent host. I can't see the point of Noel at all, he's not even funny. Not sure why it even needs two hosts.

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 26/01/2026 18:51

I love Nigella! I think she will bring some much needed oomph to Bake Off, which has become a bit same-y in recent seasons.
As for baking, she's as much of a baker as Pru Leith is. I've made many of her cake recipes and they never fail me.

You do know the micro wah vay thing was a joke don't you?
Astonishing to think anyone would think she seriously pronounced it like that😂

PinkTonic · 26/01/2026 19:03

I haven’t watched since Mary Berry left but I’ll probably give it a go now. I like Nigella and her cakes always work for me.

Joke! Oh so hilarious. No I didn't think she really pronounced it like that. Astonishing to think anyone would think it funny to say it like that but she likes to show off

HRTQueen · 26/01/2026 19:08

I love Nigella I think she will be great

Her baking even I can follow. She is a great presenter passionate about food and well just is sexy she really doesn’t need to try but hams it up which is often very tongue in cheek

LavenderBlue19 · 26/01/2026 19:10

Love Nigella! She's funny and an experienced presenter, she's be great. I assume she'll have done screen tests with Paul Hollywood - I don't love the idea of them together but that's mainly because I can't stand him.

Also yes, as others have said - her cakes work. Not too difficult, come out lovely.

Screamingabdabz · 26/01/2026 19:19

Nigella is too good for this but I agree with pp that she’ll be a ratings hit. It might even be worth watching again.

jennandbenn · 26/01/2026 19:23

I'd watch it for the first time. You have got to love Nigella.

BishyBarnyBee · 26/01/2026 19:32

TeaAndALemonTart · 26/01/2026 17:24

We won’t watch it on principle now. She’s a fucking disgrace

I think you may have made this exact comment on one of the other Nigella threads and not bothered to explain why?

The only thing that comes to mind is her drug use but given what she'd been through at that point (lost mum, sister and husband to cancer then been in an abusive relationship with Saatchi) you'd have to be pretty judgemental and unfeeling to decide she's 'a fucking disgrace" and "not watch it on principle".
