Apparently I'm a bra size 30GG!!!

Notasbigasithink · 25/01/2026 12:04

So I've been breast feeding for about 18mths now and let's just say all the meat has gone from my boobs! They were a lovely, pert 34D pre baby and now look like sagging, 2inches lower, deflated balloons.....
Out of interest, I thought I'd do the boob or bust online measurements to see what sort of bra size I'm potentially looking at now they've changed shape etc and apparently I'm a 30GG!!! How is this possible when they're sagging and lost top volume/fullness?! Is this even a plausible size in real women? I'm loathed to spend £40 on a bra thats a 30GG only to have to send it back hugely disappointed.
Anyone else done the boob or bust measurements and actually fit into the size stated/recomended?
YNBU - Enjoy your apparently giant boobs and buy lots of new fabulous bras
YABU - Your delusional of your saggy post breastfeeding boobs and stick to drab sports bras

But yeah if you’re still breastfeeding don’t fork out on expensive bras, they are likely to change size again

StuntNun · 25/01/2026 12:38

I was a 30GG for years. You get most of the support from the band so it's best for that to fit correctly. If you've been wearing a sister size before then the right size may feel tight at first but it will support you better. If you're not sure then book a fitting at Bravissimo or an independent bra shop. Don't go somewhere like M&S where they add four inches on to the band size the give you a smaller cup size to make up the difference.

JLou08 · 25/01/2026 12:39

I used the boob to bust and was shocked at the size. I tried the one recommended though and it was a perfect fit and gave me a good lift. I wish I'd discovered it sooner.

Seeline · 25/01/2026 12:41

Most of the support in a bra comes from the band, so it needs to be snug and not move around.
If a non-stretchy tape measure will go round you, then the bra, which is elasticated definitely will.
If it feels too tight, hold the bra upside down, move the hooks to the front and do it up. It should be possible to pull the band out about an inch from your body. If it is much less than this, go up a band size. If it is about an inch, try increasing the cup size, because a cup that is too small makes everything feel too tight.

Try with trustworthy brands such as Panache, Freya and Fantasie. Or go to Bravissimo.

Please dont say that! I'm terrified they're going to disappear to nothing!!!
I'm still night feeding but they dont fill anymore like they did in the first few moths where they'd noticeably deflate after a feed and then fill up again iyswim. They seem to have settled at one size now for a few months so I was hoping this is it and wanted to treat myself to a few nice bras.

Sorry it's likely they're going to change again when you fully stop so don't spend loads!

Peridoteage · 25/01/2026 12:43

Ive tried the boob or bust thing of wearing a very tight band. Its a concept that assumes your size is mainly based on your frame/build - how broad you are etc. But actually if you are a bit fatter this goes out the window!

When i was slim pre kids it worked ok for me but i am fatter now. Basically when you are fatter tight/close fitting things (sized to your underlying frame) dig into your fat . My underlying frame is not a 34 it probably is a 30, but because I'm overweight i find the snug fit uncomfortable and wear a 34. It probably is less supportive but tighter bands leave red marks.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 25/01/2026 12:46

Im the same, i was in 34 GG bras, lost a bit of weight and the fullness has gone from my boobs

went to be re measured expecting to be a 34, E or F but came out as a 32 GG, this bra fits perfectly, my others are very gappy at the top

Clefable · 25/01/2026 12:47

I’m a 30FF going by Boob or Bust and don’t have particularly large boobs, they have lost a lot of volume though so do need to be lifted. I buy 30FF or equivalent and that fits well and gives the structure I need.

CelticPromise · 25/01/2026 12:47

It's definitely a plausible size, try Brastop for good value bras to try, you can return if no good.

HeNeedsRehab · 25/01/2026 12:47

I was shocked with my BoB size, think it was similar to yours OP

However, I ordered (no joke) about 50 different bras, different styles, brands etc and I couldn’t get on with any! The band was so tight I couldn’t breathe. I persevered with one because I was told it’d stretch but it didn’t and I hated being uncomfortable. I also found the cup coming further under my arm rubbed.

I tried all sorts, sister sized the lot but just couldn’t get it to work for me

Myblueclematis · 25/01/2026 12:50

I was professionally fitted last summer and went from 38GG to 34G.

What a difference, I look better in clothes and bras fit better. I actually have a torso now rather than big boobs and no waist.

Clefable · 25/01/2026 12:50

The band size is whatever you measure it as, so if it’s too tight it’s likely because you are pulling the tape too tight when measuring band. If it’s digging in when you measure, it’ll dig in when you wear.

RabbitFurCoat · 25/01/2026 12:50

Bras hadn't been measured correctly for years. Subsequently stock usually fit within certain boundaries which influenced sizing (gotta sell stock you have) etc etc... however, new bras haven't stretched so they can feel tight. I never find cups are wide enough for my 'base' at the right size but sizing up means they end up in my armpits. I no longer believe in bras. I wear crop top type things. The issue I have is I'm big (mine are still good post several years of bf btw, at one point I had one significantly larger than the other because the PITA would only feed from one!) so I get sweaty between the boobs. I've seen soft croptop type bras that separate them, not yet tried. Usually because I'm tight, and prefer to buy secondhand if I can.

I come out at 28F on the Boob or Bust (BoB) measurement.

They go on and on about how their measurements are so much more accurate than M&S but that's not true. It's just another starting point, the same as M&S or others.

People forget that as band sizes get smaller, the cup sizes get smaller, so a D cup on a 28 is nothing like the D cup on a 38!

So I started at 28F (ridiculously tight) so then went to 30E (still a bit tight) and settled on 32DD. M&S measured me at 34D so they were only one off, but again it's just a starting point.

It then all depends on bra style, body shape etc...

I absolutely hate bra shopping!

Fairygardenx · 25/01/2026 12:53

My last fitting m&s i was told I was a 34dd.
Tried a few bras and they felt huge on me no surprise.
Im a 34c i still wear a C as it fits perfectly.

Catza · 25/01/2026 13:28

Notasbigasithink · 25/01/2026 12:13

Interesting! I just wore a 34D because it was whatsoever to fit and give me a relatively decent shape.
I don't understand what a sister size is? Surely a 34D is just that??

It's not. The number is a circumference of your chest and the letter is the difference between the chest measurement and the cup measurement. I ma technically 28F but it's nearly impossible to find. So I can wear 30E (adding two inches to the chest and taking it off the cup) or 32DD (adding four inches to the chest and taking it off the cup). Obviously, the more you deviate from your chest size, the less supportive your bra becomes.

Samsungasong · 25/01/2026 13:34

Boobs can be big and saggy at the same time so I don't understand why you worded it that way. There is so much hate and hostility to bigger breasts.
If your breasts sag and or are big getting supportive bras isn't a luxury it's vital for your health. Every woman of any size will try some bras that don't fit even at the same size style and brand differ. It's normal to send back some clothes or bras.

Girlintheframe · 25/01/2026 13:56

I measured with Boob or Bust and was absolutely shocked by the size they gave. I ordered some bras skeptically but they actually did fit and gave a a fab shape. Only thing I would say is that size can vary a bit from brand to brand.

CocoPlum · 25/01/2026 14:05

It will feel really tight but it should be tight on the first hook, not the furthest one. You also need to learn to scoop your breast into the cup!

Get yourself to a bravissimo for a proper fitting. It's not the slightest surprise that you were fitted at M&S!

I did not have this problem.

Unfortunately. Dropping back down a size or two would have been preferable.

Given you have measured as a 30GG I sincerely doubt they will disappear 'to nothing' anyway!!!

MsCactus · 25/01/2026 14:11

So in the past you'd measure under bust and add 4 inches if it was an even number, five inches if it was an odd number. So my 27" under bust would be a 32" back. This was because bra straps weren't built as stretchy as they are now so needed some give in the straps.

Nowadays the new way of measuring is just to take the straight measurement - so a 27" back becomes a 28" higher-cup-size back.

Personally, it doesn't work for me. I'm technically a 28F I think - but I wear 32DD as find it way more comfortable.

Sister sizes mean the cup size of a 28F is the same as a 30E or a 32DD. I sometimes wear a 30E too, but no way could I comfortably wear a 28.

vanillaskin · 25/01/2026 14:16

I’m a 34 band at a size 18
this was trying a sport bra on, and I’m a 34K - I don’t think I look the size I am!

Apparently I'm a bra size 30GG!!!
rickyrickygrimes · 25/01/2026 14:25

I tried the boob or bust measuring technique, then tried loads of bras in that size. None of them fitted: the ones I could fasten were incredibly tight and uncomfortable. B&B made a huge deal of the tightness of the band. I think it was like 36HH.

so I went to M&S, got measured there. 40D. When I told her about B&B she tutted and said ‘we don’t have to go round trussed up like we’re in Bridgerton these days’. And I walked out with 3 reasonably priced bras.

OhBobbins · 25/01/2026 14:32

Boob or bust is a great calculator but after several uncomfortable, corset-like bras based on the size they recommended, I've learnt to go for your 'sister size' a size or two bigger than they say. So for 30GG you would go up a band and down a cup to 32G or 34FF. Definitely try a few on before buying and don't be swayed by shop assistants who insist the band will stretch - it will stretch marginally but not enough to stop it digging in if it's uncomfortably tight to begin with.

I have a drawer full of (pricey!) 32G, 34FF, 30G and other small back, large cup bras and now I wear a 36E which is comfortable, still gives me a good shape and lift but doesn't restrict my breathing!

Good luck!

snowdaze76 · 25/01/2026 14:33

I was wearing a 36H, tried B or B method and came out 34J. Fits way better.
