....to think that Mark Carney is now the hottest man on the planet?

Wow, that speech at Davos had me stirred in all kinds of ways 😳. Granted, it was long and I thought he was going to end it with " and remember, to always wear sunscreen ", but he socked it to Trump! When he mentioned making pathways with the EU, I hope he includes our little United Kingdom in that. Faithful remainer here 50f.

Love his intelligence and grasp of finance especially when you look south of the border.

It's the usual MN double standard. Woman finds shortness in a man unattractive: legitimate turn-off. Man expresses preference for women with larger breasts or long legs: shallow, disgusting perversion.

Perversion? That’s a bit strong.

Bobbinog · 23/01/2026 09:08

I'm 5ft 10 but if a man's hot that wouldn't bother me at all 😁

Sartre · 23/01/2026 09:09

His voice is beautiful. I thought it when I listened to him on TRIP a while ago. He isn’t the nicest to look at though.

Lopteluga · 23/01/2026 09:12

He could adjust my interest rates any time he likes.

It's depressing how many people are swayed by an articulate man in a smart suit. Revolutionaries intent on upsetting the status quo don't get invited to speak at Davos.
Mark Carney is part of the establishment which used the "rules based international order" as a cudgel when it was convenient and useful to do so. He's only admitting its an illusion because the hypocrisy of western powers is plain to see. His apparent honesty is a variation of a "limited hangout".

It was a good speech and I would be impressed if he was sincere but I suspect he's full of shit just like Obama and Blair who were both persuasive public speakers.

But OP is talking about physical attraction, not his politics.

Is that a euphemism? 😂

Had a crush on hm for years. I’m 5’10”. Don’t care about his height. I’ve learned over the years that it’s one of the things that doesn’t really matter.

There isn't a word about his physical appearance in the OP.

First line of the OP.

There was a thread some time ago about sexy politicians or something like that. Boris Johnson was mentioned a few times and also Jacob Rees Mogg. Now that was a difficult reading … this Mark Carney thread is pretty harmless.

You're right, but unless I've completely misunderstood this thread it appears to be about discussing a physical attraction to Mark Carney as well as other politicians.

Mirrorx · 23/01/2026 09:21

I've only heard Trump's response to his speech. It rattled DT, so he must be doing something right.

It's interesting, what makes a man attractive. I'm currently seeing a tiny one, 5'3"! He is so interested and interesting though. I've never met someone who's genuinely interested in both sides of a debate (political or otherwise) to this extent before, and he's knowledgable about all the arguments, not just the ones he agrees with.

I know people are judging me for not having higher standards appearance wise, and wondering what on earth I see in him, but he's a much better partner than any tradionally more physically attractive men I know.

That’s the difference between Canadians and Americans - we are sincere and the scepticism is based on UK politics and not understanding Canadians or our values.

He didn't exempt himself from those who benefitted from following the rules based order. In fact he explicity explained why countries did/do so, and why it needs to change. I see no hypocricy in that. His whole message was what you are pointing out. That it needs to change, because things have changed. I think it takes some courage to put it so bluntly knowing full well it is directed at Trump and the USA, and knowing full well that Trump will hold a grudge. To me, Carney is to be viewed relative to other politicians today, many who seem to have lost their spines.

NutritiousSardines · 23/01/2026 09:30

What, for openly saying that the ‘international order’ for decades has been unjust & oppressive & lawless & built on lies about US benevolence, and that European leaders were perfectly happy 😃 with this, it was all absolutely fine when the injustice & oppression & lawlessness were just directed at black and brown people - but that now the lawlessness is coming for Europe too, for white people, they don’t like it at all 😢?

Mainstream media has entirely failed to report this hugely significant aspect of his speech. It has been presented as just an anti-Trump speech which isn’t really correct.

I would recommend reading the text of the speech in full, not excerpts, and thinking about the implications, about what it reveals about the lies we have been told, and about the stinking morality of the ‘leaders’ who cheerfully, knowingly went along with these lies, before eulogising this shameless profit seeking swamp creature.

FYI I saw him once, walking along Cheapside when he was Governor of the Bank of England. He is about 5’6”, if that

He is taller than that, but at that time he had to carry the small, remaining gold reserves that we still had, in his pockets, to stop them being sold off. It was the weight of this gold that caused him to stoop. (I think.)

I listened to, and read the whole speech many times, and yes he did use the sign in the shop story to illustrate exactly that. That nations turned a blind eye to the injustices in order to get along. He explicitly included Canada in it: "For decades, countries like Canada prospered under what we called the rules-based international order. We joined its institutions, we praised its principles, we benefited from its predictability. And because of that we could pursue values-based foreign policies under its protection.
We knew the story of the international rules-based order was partially false. That the strongest would exempt themselves when convenient. That trade rules were enforced asymmetrically. And we knew that international law applied with varying rigour depending on the identity of the accused or the victim."

The question I answered is one of hypocricy, which means the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case. In Carney's case it is clearly not hypocricy as he's admitting to how the rules based order works. He is stating that things need to change. I'm not sure what your point is, that he should not say anything simply because western nations benefitted from it in the past?

I hear you OP. I do have a thing for strong politicians who generally feel like they are a force for good. See also - Donald Tusk (TUSK people not Trump) brooding around as a youth fighting and then head of the EU. Helps that they are both Remainers.
A therapist would have a field day with me 😂
I'll get my coat.

Yes! Tusk was hot as hell!

I‘m with you OP. An intelligent and powerful man. Can’t get better.

How many times on Mumsnet do women state that they only go for tall men? Just managing expectations in the imaginary world where MC wouldn’t look twice at anyone on Mumsnet!
