Hard to find a ‘No dogs allowed’ UK costal break

AIBU to be pretty fed up with most holiday parks and rental cottages in England allowing dogs.

I’d be very grateful if anyone could suggest somewhere ideally in Dorset or Devon, a chalet holiday park or group of cottages where dogs are not permitted to stay. We are three families holidaying together. Would be nice if there was a pool.

Maybe stop looking at pet friendly holidays?

Teenagerantruns · 21/01/2026 11:52

Butlins dont sllow dogs, but nearest to Devon would be somerset.
All other holiday parks l have stayed in allow pets in some of thier caravans.

It’s actually quite difficult to find a list of “no dog” places - sites like cottages.com allow you to filter on “no pets allowed” properties, but that doesn’t tell you whether that’s applicable to all properties on a single site.

I was going to suggest that too.

I think the challenge is that holiday parks likely do allow dogs because of the market they are catering to.

A group of cottages with availability all at the same time…and a pool. 😂 That’s hard to find, dogs or no dogs.

Your best bet is going to be going directly to a local holiday lettings agency in a particular town and getting several cottages in the same area. Prioritise the dog free ones for whoever has the allergy.

Or look to rent one massive country house. It will cost you. I’d expect to pay something around £1000 a night, but you can easily get one with 10-12 bedrooms and will be more likely to have a pool. We have done this before with friends or Dh organised a stag do and hired one. They are often nicely decorated and I’d be quite surprised if most allowed dogs. But if say 5 families, it’s reasonably priced for a week away.

Dog ownership is rife these days and sadly that means that holiday companies can't afford to exclude people who have them.

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/01/2026 12:16

Rife = popular

TeaRoseTallulah · 21/01/2026 12:19

I find air BnB better as they often have no pets.

You do know it's okay for people to have preferences that don't affect you right?

People are allowed to not like or be around dogs.

What's the actual issue with dogs?
Most holiday parks will allow them, BUT will also have dog/ pet free areas.

Look at Marsdens pet free Devon cottages

Down in Cornwall, but this is our go to place for a weekend break. They have dog free holiday lodges. I hate paying £££ for a week away and finding the place stinks of dog.

Gwel An Mor in Cornwall might fit your bill.

very nice up market chalets on a very small site. some have hot tubs on the balconies. You can choose different styles of lodges to fits budgets, but it is an overall very small park with a quite exclusive feel. It had an indoor pool and a good bar restaurant but was in walking distance of Portreath Bay which also had a couple of pubs. I don’t believe the resort is entirely dog free but we were were there I don’t recall many and you can select properties that are/have been dog free which was helpful to us due to chronic allergies

How weird we posted that at exactly the same time! It’s a lovely place.

ExtraOnions · 21/01/2026 12:44

I have a Dog Allergy, and I wish places were more explicit. Stopped at a hotel, when a dog had been part of the group before us, I was very unwell.

And Trains, I wish they had 1 pet-free coach ☹️ (I have asked, but train company was not interested)

Me too. It’s really severe.

Love the yawn emoji they should try having a severe dog allergy too. And inhalers and anti histamines don’t work for me

I’d have taken the train thing further. It’s health and safety and discrimination.

YesSirICanNameChange · 21/01/2026 12:54

Forest Holidays does non-dog friendly accommodation.

Also, it's not quite the cottage vibes but Butlins Minehead does have some lovely accommodation and nice surrounding areas, and we love that we don't have to worry about dogs having been in the accommodation or running into them around the site.

LuckyNumberFive · 21/01/2026 12:57

Is it the accommodation that needs to be pet free, or the entire site?

Center Parcs has some cabins that are dog friendly, but the others aren't, so you could just pick one that isn't marked as dog friendly.

Nvm- missed you wanted coastal

Changename12 · 21/01/2026 13:01

You cannot guarantee that somewhere will be dog free as assistance dogs are allowed anywhere. However, most owners of assistance dogs will not book somewhere that says no dogs as they are considerate and the accommodation might not be suitable for dogs.
Yes I book dog free accommodation and I don’t think it is hard to find on Airbnb. You also need to make sure that a local beach is dog free too.
Premier Inns do not allow dogs.

Doveyouknow · 21/01/2026 13:28

It's really tricky. I know someone that has an allergy that severe enough for them to carry an epi pen. Finding dog free holidays means they can relax and dog free cottages are essential. I know dog lovers often think they are being tricky about their allergy and they have even had owners get upset because they are not being friendly to their dog. However it life threatening for them. A little tolerance from dog owners would go a long way.

Really great ideas thank you. Will go local as you suggest

Aspects Holidays have properties at St Nicholas Court, St Ives where, although some flats allow dogs, most don't, and there are very strict rules against allowing dogs to defecate and urinate in the grounds. This means you can take toddlers and buggies through the grounds with confidence that they won't step in dog mess. We did notice that the apparently dog free beaches had many dogs off the lead so you can't have a picnic or take anyone who is scared of dogs.
