AIBU to think this is a bit nuts? Trans woman is being praised online for still working at 37 weeks into her "simulated" pregnancy

I have just read on Facebook about this transgender woman, Gabrielle Darone, aged 32, who simulated a pregnancy last year in order to address "gender dysphoria about not being able to carry a child". She wore a fake belly and simulated morning sickness, breathing difficulties, tiredness and other symptoms. She blogged about her experience and received a lot of praise online for still continuing to work at 37 weeks into her "pregnancy".

AIBU to think this is just crazy? Wearing a fake belly and pretending to have pregnancy symptoms is absolutely NOTHING like the real difficulties that women who are actually pregnant have to go through. Sometimes I think I am on a different planet.

Reading things like this, it escapes me how anyone can believe that this type of thing is not a mental illness. It's madness, but even more insane are the people supporting it and playing along. Too weird.

Sorry to hear this. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have already been identified as being high risk for pre-eclampsia and I am having to go to MAU weekly to have a blood pressure study and urine checking to see if it develops. I'm also under the perinatal MH team for anxiety and have just had a difficult pregnancy in general so I do sympathise. Maybe that is why this story rubbed me up the wrong way when I read it cos how dare this person take the piss out of real pregnant women like this.

Pregnancy definitely isn't easy! I hope things go as well as they can for you. It's a slog for sure. This story really got my back up as well. Ultimately he is cos-playing being pregnant. That makes the pregnancy as real as the guy who dressed as Batman for comic-con!

For anyone questioning if this is real and seeking media reports.

New York Times. Animation of his story.

'I was always very proud of my wife and what she had to go through to
have these kids but part of me I think really did want to be in her position
the kicks in her belly I could feel them from the outside but it just wasn't the same.

Ashley when she was having trouble feeding I would have easily taken her
place [...] wasn't physically able to I didn't realize I was jealous in the moment maybe it was a subconscious thing.
[Music]

once I made that connection that yes I'm a parent and yes I'm a woman
that's when I really connected that yes I'm a mother I could be the dad that
everybody wants a dad to be but it wasn't me when I first came out to my
kids we didn't have a title for me. My wife was very protective of the title of
mom I respected where she came from but it was really difficult to hear.

I'll never shy away from the fact that I'm their biological father at the same
time I don't want them to see me that way. When I see pregnant women in the
world or I see just babies I still am jealous and I don't know why that is. That I need to have that connection. I'm out in the world and people see me and
want to call me mom that's just kind of a societal thing oh it's a woman with
kids must be a mother but for me it's deeper than that, it really is a need to
want to carry and bear a child.

Am i less of a mother because I didn't get to have that experience? It's almost like I haven't earned something. I'm a mother in all senses of the word except the physical one and there's nothing I can do about it and that hurts and will
always hurt '

Transcription from youtube, I've tidied it a bit but still some punctuation errors.

Came to see if anyone had posted this.(Thanks for the effort, there is also a transcription on the NYT site!)

This guy's blog has also been extensively archived - you can read 6 years' worth of posts about his life if you want to verify. The impact of his paraphilia and his behaviour has been horrifying for his wife and young children. Yet he has been sympathetically profiled in a major mainstream media publication.

Not sure why people assumed this was a troll or ragebait - it's not even especially uncommon - pregnancy/lactation fetishes are just one flavour of the overarching paraphilia that is the main driver of trans-identification in men.

He's a dirty, creepy pervert, and the women who fawned after him are a bunch of ridiculous dick worshippers.

Lots of transphobic women here piling on against this very courageous individual. Gabrielle has got more balls than any of you.

Very good 👍

She needs to see a psychiatrist.

The people praising her are virtue signalling and enabling her by pretending to believe this is a pregnancy.

How far can she carry this on? Will she give birth to a doll?

HE needs to see a Psychiatrist.

I am obviously a bit late to the party. I just found out it was actually 5 years ago when this happened and it gets worse. Darone took drugs to stimulate "contractions" by pretending to give birth, then wanted to take drugs to induce lactation and asked in a FB group for breastfeeding mothers if someone could "lend" their baby to her so she could indulge her breastfeeding fetish. Jesus wept.

Him. He.

I've just read up on a lot of the extra details that I'd missed.

I'm normally quite supportive of trans rights but this person is so clearly mentally ill it is hard to not conclude that there is something seriously wrong with them.

I'm afraid this is exactly what you can expect when you argue for men in women's spaces to affirm their delusions about themselves.

Single sex spaces for women exist because women need them on account of their unchangeable biology. Once you let a man in there to "affirm" something about him that isn't true, it is no longer single sex and it is no longer to protect women from men, because it explicitly does not. It becomes all about the man and nothing but a validation tool for him.

But if you think it's OK to let a man into a women's space because it affirms something that isn't true but he wants it to be, there really is no reason not to let him hijack a support space for stillbirth. Obviously he's never had and never can have a stillbirth because he's a man. But he's never been and never can be a woman either for the same reason, so if he's allowed into the ladies' because it affirms the lie that he is, he can get into this group too for exactly the same reason. As he did. And so it was no longer a stillbirth support group but an affirmation tool for him, so of course you can chuck out the women who actually suffered this tragedy. It's no longer for them.

And gender ideology would make it impossible for them to create a new group that he couldn't crash. No way to get a space of their own.

This is "trans rights". It's not simply dressing and presenting and calling yourself as you like.

And that's also how you know everyone knows he's a man. If a woman who hadn't experienced a stillbirth tried to get in because she wanted to play act it, she'd be told to fuck right off and stop being such a sick ghoul. But a man wants it to affirm a different lie, that he's a woman, and he can find somewhere that'll do it.

Mark Carney in Davros was not talking about trans ideology and how we are all supposed to believe in and support the Trans Rights Activists and the Trans Women Are Women diktat , but Vaclav Havel’s story applies to all applications of groupthink:

“In 1978, the Czech dissident Václav Havel, later president, wrote an essay called The Power of the Powerless. And in it, he asked a simple question: How did the communist system sustain itself?
And his answer began with a greengrocer. Every morning, this shopkeeper places a sign in his window: "Workers of the world, unite!" He doesn't believe it. No one does. But he places the sign anyway to avoid trouble, to signal compliance, to get along. And because every shopkeeper on every street does the same, the system persists.
Not through violence alone, but through the participation of ordinary people in rituals they privately know to be false.
Havel called this "living within a lie." The system's power comes not from its truth but from everyone's willingness to perform as if it were true. And its fragility comes from the same source: when even one person stops performing — when the greengrocer removes his sign — the illusion begins to crack.
Friends, it is time for companies and countries to take their signs down.”

This is where sacrificing yourself to the altar of gender ideology and chanting TWAW! gets you.
And there’s plenty on here.

I'm confused, is this a 'transgender woman' as in a woman who is transgender, a biological woman, who identifies as a man, who still wants the experience of pregnancy but for some reason is unable to become pregnant? Or a trans identified man who wants to play at pregnancy? The use by some people of 'she' and others of 'he' makes it very difficult to understand the situation.
If this is a biological woman, then this is extremely sad. If its a biological man then it's appalling behaviour.

Substitute 'trans' with the word 'fake' to clear up the confusion. Fake-man, fake-woman.

It was even worse than that.

He simulated a still birth and then went on breastfeeding sites asking to breastfeed someone else's baby because it would help him with his grief.

It's all on Reddit if you google.

Wtaf? Is this for real?
