Do you wash towels separately in their own load?

I've always bunged them in with the rest of the washing, am I doing it wrong?

I wash separately as wash them at a higher temperature. Plus, they’re bulky.

Same.

ExtraOnions · 18/01/2026 09:43

Nope … don’t know why you would need to

ChimpOnMyShoulder · 18/01/2026 09:43

Separate hotter wash.

Bombinia · 18/01/2026 09:43

Yes, because I do them on 60c and also because all our towels and dishcloths make a full load.

Kitchenbattle · 18/01/2026 09:43

good lord no…60degree wash with pretty much everything else.

Impetushy · 18/01/2026 09:44

Really I'd like to do them in their own hot wash, no conditioner and then tumble dried. But I don't always have enough so they go in with the main wash sometimes (no conditioner when they're in) and I 'treat myself' when I have enough for a load. Cause I'm cool like that.

CharlotteSometimeslikesanafternoonnap · 18/01/2026 09:44

Yes but only because there are two of us so I do all bath/hand etc towels together rather than on a more ad hoc basis (in which case I'd bung then in as needed). We aren't so dirty as to require the daily hot wash the MN loons favour.

abracadabra1980 · 18/01/2026 09:44

Separate hotter wash like PP

TeaRoseTallulah · 18/01/2026 09:44

No, not separately.

Shudacudawuda · 18/01/2026 09:45

I do them separately with bed sheets and tea towels etc on a hot wash.

QueenStevie · 18/01/2026 09:45

I do, because I like to wash them on 60 instead of the usual 40 and also they get quite heavy and our washing machine is sensitive and can't cope with heavy loads and gets stuck on spin indefinitely so if I put other stuff in as well it tips the machine over the edge!

lovemelongtime · 18/01/2026 09:45

Yes as hotter wash, but put tea towels, pillow cases and underwear in with them too.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 18/01/2026 09:45

I only separate by colours, so anything pale goes in together, darks go in together and also brights go in together - I have some red, purple and dark pink items.

Peridot1 · 18/01/2026 09:47

Yes in a separate hotter wash like a lot of previous posters. I tend to do most clothes on a Delicates cycle at 30. Three of us in the house so two towels/teatowels/dishcloth washes a week,

RaininSummer · 18/01/2026 09:47

Not usually but there is enough for a whole load of them.

Happydays321 · 18/01/2026 09:47

No, Mine are all white and I put them in with my whites on a 40 long cotton wash with biological powder. They come out perfectly clean.

SPQRomanus · 18/01/2026 09:47

Yes, always separately from clothes. In a towel wash I only put towels, tea towels and cloths. Wash at 60.

CrotchetyQuaver · 18/01/2026 09:47

all towels go in with bathmats and dishcloths here. 60 degree wash with no fabric conditioner.

Astra53 · 18/01/2026 09:47

Our towels, bath mats and my towelling robe, tea towels and dishcloths make up one load. Washed at 60° no fabric conditioner.

Seawolves · 18/01/2026 09:48

I wash them in with the other stuff that I don't use conditioner on like my little one's bed mats.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 18/01/2026 09:49

Separate as need to be hotter 60C and need to have no fabric conditioner as that affects the absorbency.

HostaCentral · 18/01/2026 09:50

Depends. If I have a full towel load. They go on at 60. If not, random towels go in with the general wash at 40.

Never used fabric conditioner. So not an issue in that regard.

Kitchenbattle · 18/01/2026 09:43

You wash everything at 60?

GentleSheep · 18/01/2026 09:52

Sometimes, if the other items require 60C then they can go in with the towels. I don't use fabric conditioner at all.
