& the boys

Ok, this got me thinking over Christmas and really irritated me so I’m interested to know what other people think!

I have three children - all boys - and lots of people sent cards to me, DH & ‘the boys’. If they used their nicknames (which they are usually referred to as, shortened version of their name) it would literally be 4 characters extra to ensure every name was wrote.

It’s SO annoying! I can’t really articulate why, just feels like they aren’t being addressed but lumped into a group.

If you have ‘girls’ do you have the same thing? Is this a 3+ children matter?

This is quite lighthearted, I mean I’d never say anything & I’m not sat seething about it, just pondering whether I am being unreasonable to be highly irritated & wishing people would write their names…

I do that with acquaintances if I can't be arsed to pay attention to their kids names.

I absolutely hate Christmas cards, I don't send any, my DH does. When some arrive he puts them on the worktop in the kitchen as a display, same as birthday cards, half an hour later they are in the cupboard. And the cards with the newsletters in , seriously, why do people think we are remotely interested in little Jimmy meeting a donkey. URGGGGG and no I am not a grump, i just hate pointless things

I do send cards and what I do is write down the children’s names in my address book, so I make sure I don’t forget. Or I’ve even gone on to somebody’s Facebook page and had a good stalk to find their child’s name as obviously sometimes you don’t remember!

Interesting how it doesn’t bother most people.

The think I hate most about writing cards is trying to remember the names of friends' husbands.

I'm in a book group of 18, and I never remember who's married to Stuart, John, Mark or Steve, but there are at least two of each.

If I had to remember all their children's names as well, I'd never send any cards. (Nevermind whether it's Izzy, Izzie, Issy or Issie, or Zack, Zac, Zach or Zak etc)

The Boys or Th Girls or The Family are all fine.

We get ‘& kids’ for our daughter and son.

When I refer to taking DD and nieces out I say ‘the girls’.

Not sure why it’s a big deal
