Sims removed but otherwise just as they were

I'd been keeping of them to "destroy securely" but they're driving me insane around the house so enough was enough

Will I get digitally kidnapped now? They were really old and shit phones.

Stop being so fucking lazy & entitled.

Grow up

You're entitled to your opinion ofc. It's my opinion that people without much about them like to make a huge self righteous song and dance about issues like this (while simultaneously doing plenty of far more deleterious things in their own lives).

Could you sound anymore obnoxious?

mo fucking song & dance, just put batteries in a bag, drop them off at the supermarket.when the bag is full (take the bag home to reuse)

easy

This can't be right. I live next door to the church and they put a recycling bin out every Tuesday same as me.

🤣🤣🤣

Alltheyellowbirds · 11/01/2026 20:58

I hope you emailed your council to tell them.

No, you have to raise a "ticket" and in the past I've not had good responses from the waste team. Used to be waste blowing around the street every week after they had been but complaining didn't help. Better to stop looking out the window! Honestly I'll do my bit and then they can do their bit.

Silvers11 · 12/01/2026 01:26

Pavementworrier · 11/01/2026 19:39

Can honestly tell you I have never heard of this so I am quite confident most other people haven't either

Sorry, binmen, I do respect your art a great deal

So you've never ever received any tech by post, with warning notices on the address label about the package containing lithium batteries?

I don't believe you. Most people actually DO recycle batteries ( and mobile phones come to that).1

Pavementworrier · 11/01/2026 21:44

It was data security question. I think that recycling is largely a distraction for people in need of meaning in the absence of God.

Why would people care about your data security when you couldn’t give two shits for the environment?

VillaOfReducedCircumstances · 12/01/2026 07:08

I mean, the OP’s replies are all very flippant and all, but fires in refuse lorries and waste sorting centres aren’t.

Yup over 1200 of those fires recorded in 2024 it’ll be higher for 2025. A cost of many millions I’m sure. Everyone pays for that via their council tax bill.

I'm amazed. Never knew you couldn't put batteries in the bin. Must have loose batteries floating round in about six drawers around my house and didn't know that was an issue either. How do people find out this stuff?? I'm absolutely paranoid about keeping the button batteries away from young children so some public service information gets through but I've never seen anything about batteries. Or toasters, is it not really awkward rocking up at curries with a broken toaster and asking if they want it for recycling? I'm another person who thought i was relatively smart and sensible but clearly not. Maybe we need a thread with this sort of useful life stuff as how do you know what you don't know

I wouldn't worry - it's definitely not mainstream knowledge it's just that being aggressive about this sort of thing is some people's personalities.

Do you ever go on your local council website to check your recycling collection dates, order extra bins or check what goes in what box? There is a big list on there which stipulates how things should be recycled. Hard to miss, really. I appreciate some people only care about recycling due to less frequent waste bin collections. But it's not like information is hidden from view.

This is mainstream knowledge.

Ignorance of the law is not a defence but you’re not even bothered. You’re a vandal. That’s why people are getting cross.

It IS mainstream knowledge. Just because you are ignorant, don’t assume everyone is as stupid as you are. Your attitude is appalling.

It's absolutely not. I find people with very little actual responsibility in their lives get overwrought about stuff like this.

Read the thread Clara because there was a post earlier about house fires starting because of old batteries kept in drawers.

It's not at all awkward taking stuff for recycling back to shops, they're used to it. It must happen every day.

"Maybe we need a thread with this sort of useful life stuff as how do you know what you don't know"

An alternative to this would be if we all just think a bit harder about the things we let go and how we get rid of them. Anything electrical or that won't just rot down - where do we think that goes? There's a system for everything and it's all on the net.

Sir David Attenborough is one of the most active and effective proponents of recycling. Nothing else going on in his life of course.

Theroadt · 11/01/2026 23:32

Not only has she said she won’t, but effectively rolled her eyeballs at all us old fogeys who take the environment seriously. Bet she chucks trash out of her car window or picks up dog poo then leaves the bag on the ground because she can’t see a dog bin nearby. Her tone indicates she is of that mindset. Seriously annoying (and immature) but what can anyone do? Stubborn.

she is being very snobbish and ignorant. I get the feeling that she thinks waste recycling is beneath her and her neighbours. I live in a very well to do area and all my neighbours put recycling out every week. It’s not rocket science.

Almost anywhere that sells batteries or electrical equipment should have a bin for recycling batteries. Most supermarkets do, Currys do...

No, none of them do here, we’ve got a small Tesco & coop

nutbrownhare15 · 12/01/2026 10:20

Go to your local council website. Look up the copious amounts of information on what to do with your waste. If I don't know how to dispose of something I look it up. I'd never put electrical waste in landfill.

But you do you... enjoy your small-minded village life... let's hope the next generation aren't quite as useless

poor you!
How judgmental are you?

You actually haven’t got a clue have you how people live their lives?
Pathetic!!!

BrendaSmall · 12/01/2026 10:25

Our recyclers that collect glass/cardboard/plastics/papers / food stuff take electrical items too, shame they don’t take batteries!!!
