Thinking Vinted will see Charity Shops out of business?

If you're a chazza fan like me have you noticed how they're not busy?
Vinted is new in the great scheme of things and fantastic. It's a new discovery] for me.
I'm not sure how sympathetic I am towards chazzas losing business because the profits aren't shared

They absolutely do. They are under regional instruction ( yes every charity shop has a a tier of management paid for by your donations) to price against a reseal value on websites. This is why their prices reflect this. They check before pricing.

What does that mean? Are they selling them online?

For every person selling on Vinted, there must be a hundred like me who can’t possibly be arsed with all that and just find it easier to donate to chazzas.

One here!

I could not be bothered to ever look or sell on Vinted.

Catza · 10/01/2026 06:49

I don't have time on my hands to sell things online. I also rarely buy anything so am unlikely to go looking for something specific on Vinted. But I was in town the other day and happened to pass a charity shop, walked away with a brand new and unworn pair of Clarke court shoes for £3.50. I know that this wouldn't even cover shopping costs if I bought them on Vinted.

I don't think 'chazza' will catch on

And for that we should all be eternally grateful.

pinksheetss · 10/01/2026 07:13

Please don’t let ‘chazza’ be a thing.

LeftoversAgain · 10/01/2026 07:20

I always take my stuff to my local charity shop as have zilch time to sell on Vinted. Im glad they can sell the stuff and its my way of donating. Round here there are several charity places always busy. Stuff ive taken recently are Missoni, Cochinelle, brand new coats I can't fit into.

Shared with who? They sell stuff to make money, after costs, to fund thr charitable activities of the charity.

Thought it already was.. I say chazza

Xmasbaby11 · 10/01/2026 07:27

There are lots of charity shops near me and generally they are really busy. They were absolutely rammed with customers before Xmas. I donate there, don’t have time or headspace for vinted. I donate a few bags every month and they always take them. I agree the quality isn’t always great in charity shops as people probably do sell online if they have time.

Member984815 · 10/01/2026 07:30

I sell books on vinted, some charity shops dont take them anymore but ive never managed to sell any clothing so they go to the charity shop, i have to try everything on before i buy so i wouldn't buy clothes off it either.

I don't think 'chazza' will catch on

Ha ha what? This is such a common term for charity shops!

LostittoBostik · 10/01/2026 07:31

I think there’s a market for both. I use both - as a buyer and seller/donator

RedRiverShore6 · 10/01/2026 07:32

I donate everything, I couldn't be bothered with selling. I think the customer base is probably different for buying.

RedRiverShore6 · 10/01/2026 07:33

I donate books to National Trust, I just take them along when visiting

Lemondrizzle4A · 10/01/2026 07:39

I sell on Vinted and donate to charity shops. Charity shops also sell items on Vinted and EBay so I’m sure they will survive.

Charity shops are now just way too expensive. The mistake they're making is trying to match vinted resale prices but have totally overlooked that it should go two ways and provide good value for those on a budget too.

I used to buy most of my clothes from chazzers. I occasionally by from vinted if I know what I want to buy generally just carefully choose new now.

Yes, agreed. I have always bought a mix of new and second hand, and used to buy really great quality things from local charity shops. I live in central London where there are lots of people buying quite expensive clothes and used to donate.

This is obviously not happening now as the clothes I see in my local charity shops are in poor condition and mostly very cheap brands. But the prices are stupidly high.

Toastersandkettles · 10/01/2026 07:51

I use a combination of both. I buy a lot of DCs clothes on vinted, but I am ridiculously shaped so need to try things on before I buy. I also like to feel and see the fabric before I commit to buy. The charity shops have got very expensive and there are some in town that I avoid completely now. I refuse to pay £15 for second hand Primark polyester.

Bouledeneige · 10/01/2026 07:59

Some people like to browse in real time shops others not. But quite a few of the charities are going into Vinted or other online shops as well to ensure they are present in both environments.

MadamCholetsbonnet · 10/01/2026 08:01

I have given thousands of pounds worth of stuff to charity. I can’t really afford to do that anymore because of low pay crisis. I now sell on Vinted and only stuff that doesn’t sell gets taken to charity.

I rarely bought at charity shops but I do buy from Vinted.

Liftedmeup · 10/01/2026 08:05

No, the charity shops near me are very busy. Most are curated like boutique shops. One of them is the most successful in the country for its particular charity.

Left · 10/01/2026 08:16

They will be facing the same pressure of other high street stores. Less footfall, online competitors, higher utilities costs, customers having less disposable income.

Plus -

Drop in quality of high street fashion affecting donation quality.

Less availability of experienced volunteers due to cost of living and need to stay on paid work/rise in retirement age.

VoodooQualities · 10/01/2026 08:17

@SunSparkle thank you for posting that, it was a very interesting read.

VoodooQualities · 10/01/2026 08:19

And you typed it all out at 3am too!

luckylavender · 10/01/2026 08:20

I don’t think everyone is wedded to Vinted. I still prefer eBay. But with the COL crisis & a focus on sustainability I think there’s room for everyone.
