To not want to go anywhere and just enjoy home?

Statsquestion1 · 05/01/2026 13:30

So last year we bought a new home, we are so in love with it. We have done lots of work and we have it pretty much all done and perfect now. The only thing is I HATE leaving to go places, we went on holiday in Oct and no sooner had I left I wanted to go home. I’m back to work today after the Christmas break and I’m hating not being home. This is not healthy is it? Tell me others were like this and it’s worn off?

Well considering you spent all that money on it, consider it enjoying your investment!

PhantomAfternoonTea · 05/01/2026 13:35

I am exactly the same, I've been in my house for almost three years now. I do still enjoy my holidays, but I'm always very happy when it comes to the end of a trip and it's time to head home. I think it's a good thing to have a place you love so much to come back to.

Anonanonanonagain · 05/01/2026 13:38

I am in my home over 20 years and it is my favourite place to be. Its my sanctuary, why not love it?!

queenofwandss · 05/01/2026 13:39

Enjoy it. I am now in the first house that I’ve ever felt like this about. I still enjoy holidays but I love coming back home, I never used to understand people saying that before.

Purlant · 05/01/2026 13:43

Some people are homebodies and nothing wrong with that. Personally, until I can ski, swim in the sea, view the wonders of the world, experience other cultures, marvel at architecture/works of art, all from my own home/garden - then I’ll continue to enjoy my holidays!!

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 05/01/2026 13:44

Why is this a problem?!

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 05/01/2026 13:44

We did this nearly 4 years ago buying a house which virtually meets all our needs and more. It was a big investment but easily the best decision we've ever made

The contrast to our previous 20yrs is huge.

We have our extremely anti social neighbours to thank for our move.....I genuinely think I'd buy them a drink if I saw them

This, after working hard all week that's the only place I want to be.

UnhappyHobbit · 05/01/2026 13:48

I would love to be this much in love with my home! Enjoy!

Cocomelon67 · 05/01/2026 13:49

I think that’s lovely. You’ve no doubt worked hard, enjoy it!

Meadowfinch · 05/01/2026 13:52

Hating going anywhere else is a bit extreme, but to be honest, when it's -4 outside, I don't want to go out either.

I want to light the log burner, curl up on my clean comfy sofa and read a book. Seems perfectly sensible to me

The house is so well insulated that I have no idea it’s even a minus outside 😅 it’s a shock when I open the door to go to work. I had to go get a thermal vest this morning 🤣🤣

Just to add that the only thing to be cautious about is if you are restricting experiences for any children. It has been on my mind but now DC are in mid teenage years they are only looking to be funded to go out with their friends anyway.

We do make an effort to make sure they get to do things but life is great when they are out with friends

TallulahBetty · 05/01/2026 13:57

I'm the same. All I want to do is get home. I see it as a positive - I am paying a lot to be here, so it's a good thing I like it and want to be here!

bombastix · 05/01/2026 13:59

I travel a lot for work. I have come to really dislike leaving my house. So I get the feeling.

noidea69 · 05/01/2026 13:59

Slightly weird that you didn't enjoy holiday because of it.

Going back to work totally get.

DustyMaiden · 05/01/2026 14:00

I feel the same. Got to go to Cornwall in June if I get accommodation to the same standard as my home it will cost an arm and a leg.

Friendlygingercat · 05/01/2026 14:03

The worst thing about having to go somewhere else is that there are other people there! I am happy not to see anyone all week.

DancingNotDrowning · 05/01/2026 14:07

my home isn’t favourite place to be, it doesn’t mean I don’t want to go other places to visit, but I love being in my house with all my home comforts.

I’ve discovered I have to spend a lot of hotels to stay somewhere provides a better experience than being at home.

abracadabra1980 · 05/01/2026 14:17

I have always been like this. I have spent more money on my home than anything else in my life and I'm damned well don't to enjoy it-no guilt attached. I have arranged my whole life over the last 30 years to spend as much time as possible at home, and now I'm here almost every day. I rarely go on holiday as I miss my dogs too much after even one night, and I don't like flying. I travelled extensively when younger and now have a campervan to change the scenery of if I fancy it. I recently explained to my DC that i get the same feeling of excitement that they get going to the airport for a holiday, whenever I'm heading home. Even talking about it makes me feel so very happy 😊

Happyjoe · 05/01/2026 14:22

As Dorothy said, 'There's no place like home'. Enjoy!

Same here. Been in our home 20 years on 13th of this month. We love it more now it’s finally finished (it took us that long). DH gets really flat and depressed after a holiday/Christmas because he would love to be here all the time.

Hope you remain as in love with your home as we have 😍

Critical typo there - my home is my favourite place to be ….

I would have agreed with this wholeheartedly before but we ploughed a lot of money into getting this house perfect and it has everything that I used to love in hotels…rain showers, big bath and a soothing bathroom. It’s light and bright and airy. It just soothes me.

I love being at home but I do still like to explore other places.
