To have been so convinced it was real ?

Last night I dreamt j stopped my car on a hill for a short time and got out of the car but in that time my empty car hit the car behind, which was then travelling faster down the hill and looked on course to hit another car

Wanting to escape the situation I cycled away but there was a woman reading in the window in one of the houses and she noticed me I looked carried on cycling and arrived home hoping no one would recognise me

I then wanted to dispose of the bike but worried if people found out it would look suspicious

i then went in to dream there was an intruder in my house who I shouted at to get out

when I was in the dream I was convinced the whole scenario was so real. AIBU?

All the cars involved in my dream were empty

I had a dream where I had broken my arm. Whole going to a&e sitting there for a long time, X-rays etc. it was so realistic and bizarrely mundane.

Woke up expecting my arm to be in a cast and took me a while to figure it ask out.

Sometimes dreams are very real. Not sure what the AIBU is?

BlueEyedBogWitch · 04/01/2026 07:58

I think you might still be asleep…

Theunamedcat · 04/01/2026 08:02

I was holding something in my sleep woke up and could still "feel" it in my hands my hands were empty plus im bugged now because I cant remember what I was holding 😂

Owly11 · 04/01/2026 08:03

Sounds like you are feeling out of control of your life and struggling to put boundaries in place with others due to guilt.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/01/2026 08:03

I dreamt I found a tin of beautiful blue paint and painted my front door with it. Now I want to do it for real.

willsandnoodle · 04/01/2026 08:05

Is it not usual for you to dream this way? I have vivid dreams what feels like all night, every night, whereas my husband has one about once every 6 months and generally feels like you do when he does. He doesn’t dream less than me, he just doesn’t remember them. I’ve done a lot of research into the subject and to not remember many of your dreams is signs of deeper, more restful sleep.

That’s an interesting analysis and quite true !

Interesting - thanks for your response on this.

interestingly I’ve never had a dream like yours. Mine are along the lines of not revising enough for exams and realise I’m going to fail and also sometimes uninvited intruders in my house

The AIBU was I suppose I was sneakily hoping for some dream interpretations!

Just as an FYI Ive recently been watching loads of old Crimewatch episodes from the very beginning - June 1984 up to the current day - so I’m hyper aware how suspects are identified etc 😭😭😭

at the end of the day - my dream involved me running away from the damage I’d caused and not facing it!

sorry I admit I was after some possible dream interpretation! 😭

It’s a Scots dream. Doesn’t always have meaning beyond you have something in life you’re anxious about making you feel unsafe.

Ah, right. Suggests to me that you were asleep. 🤣🤣

FlyingUnicornWings · 04/01/2026 08:32

Ah that’s so spooky OP. I was reading your dream thinking I’ve had this exact same dream before (years ago). Except in mine, I cycled into a wall/fence at the bottom of the hill before walking the bike back up, seeing a person looking at me and not wanting to be recognised and then hiding the bike! Mad!

Best way I was ever taught to analyse my dreams is as follows. Get a bit of paper, two columns. In the first column write down key bits from the dream. So for example ice, hill, slippery, cars crashing, woman staring. Then in the other column, focus on one word at a time and write the first thing that comes to mind. So ice = cold. Hill = hard work. Slippery = no control. Cars crashing = damage. Woman staring = judgement. But it has to be exclusive to you as everyone’s brains interpret symbols differently, and that’s what dreams are, they are symbolism. Our brains don’t think in words, they think in imagery, sensations, feelings and then our brains interpret that into our language for us to communicate. By analysing this way, you are interpreting the symbols into language you can understand and work with. Dreams are our brain trying to make sense of our world, so to pull them out and work out what they mean is not only cool, but an excellent self-reflection/awareness tool.

Anyway, spooked we had the same dream, but maybe it’s a common one?

I do have a lot of dreams where I can’t break in a car, I hate them. They re-occur when there’s something in my life I can’t control. (And that’s a lot because I’m a bit of a control freak 😂).

GoodBrew · 04/01/2026 08:42

I would have vivid dreams like this when I was antidepressants. Every single night, it was exhausting. Its the only reason I choose not to go back on them even though it would benefit me in other ways.

I wonder if you've taken some medication recently that could cause this? Or just a hormonal surge. Pre-menstrual dreams are always a bit crazy.

Strawberrryfields · 04/01/2026 08:44

Missing the point here but confused about which way the car was rolling?! Was your car parked facing up the hill then rolled backwards into another car?

Dontpokethebearnow · 04/01/2026 08:44

I'm a vivid dreamer so dreams like this are frequent and very normal to me. The dreams I have where they feel this real are usually ones where someone has broken into my house. All other dreams I can usually identify whilst dreaming that I'm dreaming (I often dream within a dream as well!).

I used to Google my dreams a lot but I generally know what they mean these days.

Your dream does suggest that you are lacking control, and unsure which direction you want to go in. You aren't trusting your own judgement in the dream, but avoiding someone else's.

SabrinaCarpetCleaner · 04/01/2026 10:12

It was an anxiety dream. It probably isn't that deep either, probably just related to mild anxiety about going back to work after the holidays or such like.

MaybeNotNo · 04/01/2026 10:51

Ive got backache at the moment, and dreamt Edward Herrman (Loralai dad in Gilmore Girls and so much more) was a friends relative, and swung me around by my ankles to try and cure it.
