To think it's impossible to love your job? If you do love going to work, what job do you do?

I'm thinking of retraining to try to find a job I love, but wondering if maybe the grass is always greener and most people don't love their jobs and settling for something that's 'ok' and pays the bills is how it is for most people?

There is a lot of politics in my line of work, so that can be hard to navigate.

It pays well, and the crux of what I do is drafting paperwork, which I now find serene, like doing a crossword. It calms me, when I need to switch my brain off from ruminating on personal thoughts. I don't necessarily love it, but it pays well, provides security and I ve grown to enjoy the focus time.

Hobby jobs must be enjoyable, but usually are not careers as such. A luxury to be in a position to turn a hobby into a job.

I absolutely love my job - I run my own dog walking business 🥰 I’ve just been off for two weeks for Christmas break - back to it tomorrow and I can’t wait!

I’m a primary school teacher and absolutely love my job, am genuinely looking forward to going back tomorrow after 2 weeks off. I’m very lucky as I’ve found a school with excellent SLT who really value their teachers and prioritise our wellbeing. I’ve been here 2 years now and don’t ever want to leave. I previously worked for a school that was part of a huge MAT and I certainly didn’t love it then, the workload was unmanageable and their was no support from management at all, I was so relieved to get out and find my love of teaching again.

Yikes. The commute is insane, 5 hours everyday? Does that not like you?

only in the office once a week otherwise no way could I do it!

I love my job. I am a talent agent running my own agency. The work is varied although can be quite emotionally draining due to the personal connections.i work mostly from home though am in London a few times a month and also do some freelance work for a drama school.

For a long time I worked in a larger talent agency but not with "agent status" and although I loved a lot of the work then, now calling the shots and working with the people I want to is great.

However I don't love every day or every aspect of it! But overall this is what I want to do

I love my job now - I retrained as a primary teacher. I am genuinely looking forward to going back tomorrow. Like all jobs there are bits I dislike (paperwork, ofsted).I used to have a different career that I hated, literally had to drag myself in in the end and used every excuse I could think of to be off sick. Spent all Sunday dreading Monday. Yes the pay was double what I’m on now, but I hated every second of it.

I absolutely loved my previous job. I was an aircraft mechanic in a very small firm. Sadly investors pulled out and everyone was laid off, during the two week warning period we were told that there was no money to pay us so we were under no obligation to work but half of us still came in every day because we loved the work and cared about the company's future, even knowing we weren't getting paid for it (if/when the company gets new investors we will of course get paid our owed wages)

I really like my current job too (composite factory), I wouldn't work it for free but I am happy going into work and I enjoy what I do. Big part of that though is the other people working there, get on well with them and we have a laugh - company atmosphere makes a big difference I think.

I loved my job as an infant feeding peer support worker.

All of it. I loved helping new mothers safely and effectively feed their babies, however they chose and comforting them when plans change due to medical necessity. I loved home visits, it felt like an honour to be trusted and respected enough to be invited in to homes at a truly vulnerable moment for women, and I loved running my group sessions at family centres and reading, singing and engaging with mums and babies and seeing the true peer support of women being connected through a shared goal.

Sadly had to give it up due to my own disability, but if the role can become adapted to be more accessible going forward I'd love to return to it.

As soon as you monetise the thing you love it kills it somehow

God, not for me. I get to do what I love and find fun and earn a lot of money for it.

I do think it’s possible to really love your job but in my experience, the people most likely to love their jobs are either (a) in a rewarding field such as healthcare or teaching, but aren’t paid anything like what they deserve or (b) in creative areas that are really difficult to access and come with insecurity and low pay.

I like my job. I don’t love it, but I like it. I wouldn’t continue to do it if I won the lottery - but I don’t feel anxious and sad on Sunday nights, I don’t feel depressed about going back tomorrow, I’m paid very fairly, l do enjoy a lot of the work l, and I mostly like my colleagues.

I have done jobs where I truly hated it - never again.

Solicitor (in-house).

That sounds amazing. Where do you sleep when you’re on shift?

It it really rewarding and something I enjoy :) we have the 2nd bedroom set up in the house as an office/ bedroom so can do all the paperwork for the day when it's quiet and then at 11pm we go to bed until 7 am and still get paid. If our young person needs us for any reason we are there but this rarely happens x
