To think it's impossible to love your job? If you do love going to work, what job do you do?

I'm thinking of retraining to try to find a job I love, but wondering if maybe the grass is always greener and most people don't love their jobs and settling for something that's 'ok' and pays the bills is how it is for most people?

I love my job. I'm a self-employed Reflexologist and work from home so great to work around the kids. I used to be in admin and enjoyed that job to a certain extent but hated the restriction of 9 to 5 and 20 days holiday a year x

I work in a 15th century manor house that's been turned into a museum and I absolutely love it.

In fact when the time comes, I won't be retiring unless my health declines.

I feel as though I'm being paid every day to indulge a hobby I've always been passionate about.

I think people that genuinely love their job won't love every single thing about it. I would say I love my job but there are some tasks I don't love and there are some aspects that I don't love. I have my own small business and make a product, it's the making I love but as you can imagine there is a lot more to it. I don't love having to use social media or doing my taxes.

Totally agree @LillyLeaf. I love my job, but there's definitely parts of it that I don't. However, the bother parts, the people I work with and the environment I work in more than make up for it.

That sounds mega cool!!

I am a Nurse, have been for 30 years. I love love patient care but am sick to the back teeth of working under the immense and dangerous pressure that seems to have become the norm and therefore acceptable. I would love to leave but for many reasons I can't. Oh well 11 more years and counting 😂

FunnyOrca · 03/01/2026 17:06

I’m a teacher and I love it 4 days out of 5 each week!

Overtheatlantic · 03/01/2026 17:06

I love my job in HR. I’ve always loved working though, no matter what I did. I get a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from a job well done.

WhatDidYouMakeOfThat · 03/01/2026 17:14

I’m a Speech and Language Therapist. Been working for more than 20 years and still love it. The feeling of making a difference to children and families is incredibly rewarding.

I have gone into the independent sector now though as the NHS became unbearable.

MonkeyPuddle · 03/01/2026 17:14

I love my job. Hospice nurse. Absolutely there are aspects of the role im not over enamoured by, but 90% of it is just ace. The patients and their families, I have amazing colleagues. I get a huge amount of reward from my role.

Oakmilkwanker · 03/01/2026 17:17

I love my job, I'm part of a team that run a forest school for teenagers who don't fit into mainstream education. I work 4 days a week, 3 days running sessions and 1 in the office.

starrynight009 · 03/01/2026 17:18

I've been working in the charity sector for 15 years and I love it 95% of the time. Before this I did spend a few years doing jobs where I dreaded going in and I never want to go back to that again.

Mooseknuckle · 03/01/2026 17:22

I love my job, the holidays are great.
Love the creativity, love my team and love the children I teach.

Those things make it easier for me to cope with the aspects that are less lovable.

Endofyear · 03/01/2026 17:25

I worked as a youth worker in a PRU - there were aspects of the job that I didn't love, mostly bureaocracy of working for a local council! But I did absolutely love working with the kids - I know it's not everyone's cup of tea working with teenagers with emotional and behavioural difficulties but it's the most rewarding job I've ever done.

chocolateshortcake · 03/01/2026 22:32

I love my job. I'm a social worker. I have loved and hated my job at the same time previously (same job different team) but the bits that I hated were the system and the impact of it, not the actual job. It's a hard job so you have to love it to do it for long!

VikaOlson · 03/01/2026 22:37

I love my job, childminder, wish it was better paid though 😂
Not sure I can do it until retirement age...

Itawapuddytat · 03/01/2026 22:39

I am a self employed public service interpreter and I love my job.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 03/01/2026 22:43

I like bits of my job but hate a lot of it sadly. I'm a SEND teacher and love the students and luckily, the people I work closely with. But every time we have a meeting or get an email from management, with another pointless thing to do, I just feel really down. Plus, the constantly being treated like a child.

Would love to work in heritage, museums or work on my creative business full-time. I can't afford to at the moment though.

Maryberrysbouffant · 03/01/2026 22:46

I only know one person who loves their job and she works with young adults with learning disabilities.

Flipflopflipflapper · 03/01/2026 22:51

I love my job - MSK physio. I love to help people understand and reduce their pain and help them get back to doing what’s important to them. It’s complex, rewarding and I’m always learning.

TrentCrimmsflowinglocks · 03/01/2026 22:52

I think love is a strong word. But I’m happy in my job. I have nice colleagues, supportive management and I take pride in my work. I think the key to enjoying work is to be in an organisation that reflects your own values and a job role that plays to your strengths. I personally work best in job roles where I can be a subject matter expert, with a deep-dive focus on a specific area, rather than a jack of all trades. I’m better at depth rather than breadth. I am also better in a role where I can work in medium to long term planning rather than constant fire-fighting. Understanding how you prefer to work and finding a job that aligns with that is key IMO. I work in learning and development for a membership organisation - so planning/developing training courses for our members.

Yes, love my job and wouldn’t want to do anything else. I’m a sign language interpreter. Well paid, work freelance so completely flexible and in control, freedom to work in any domain I want to, and enjoy what I do.

After the many years and levels training to do this I’m pleased you love it. I do wonder though with the increased use of early implantation of cochlear implants what the future of sign language is.

Hi OP. There is a very big difference between a Job and a Vocation. I work in the NHS as an Allied Health Professional. I love my job. Helping other people get better, maintain independence and quality of life is such a privilege. I hope you find your vocation.😊

I love my job (freelance consultant)- I choose my hours, my clients, it pays incredibly well.

However, despite all that, would I rather not work at all? Obviously. A job is still a job at the end of the day.

Consultant in what?

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 03/01/2026 22:56

I love my job but I think a huge part comes down to your colleagues, management and the culture. What I actually do, I love, but if the environment changed I would soon be unhappy and want to move on.

butternut123 · 03/01/2026 14:44

I love my job but I’ve done the same job elsewhere and hated it. For me it’s less so about the job and more about the people and culture of your team (if you have one).

This 👆I worked as a nurse in a care home and my colleagues and residents were just the best company.
Hard work and very stressful at times but enjoyed going to work. Absolutely devastating when the home was destroyed by the new owners who were asset strippers and home went into administration. Poor residents had their lives destroyed by a greedy man !
