To ask how you’d decorate your bedroom around this bed?

About a year ago I chose this bed for my bedroom, not really thinking about how hard it would be to decorate a bedroom around it. But, it’s what I’m stuck with. I have the light pink walls at the moment, which almost look like bare plaster. But I really want to make a change. Just not entirely sure what colour would be best?!

All furniture is light wood. I can get new bedding - I currently have an orange checkerboard set on and I quite like the contrast of the blue and orange. But any tips are welcome!

We have the same headboard & went for light grey walls & curtains in the same blue as the headboard (Dunelm if you're interested). It's lovely & restful & we're so glad we went for those colours.

Oh light grey sounds good! I wasn’t sure whether to lean into the colours and go for quite a chaotic, colourful room!

A warm neutral? Dulux Egyptian cotton? It's not cream and it's not grey. Then pick up the teal or a contrasting orange in the soft furnishings?

Ratatouillewitheverything · 02/01/2026 14:23

Which direction does your room face? If it's north facing, grey will make it feel cooler. How do you want it to feel? It sounds like warmer colours appeal more to you and I'd be inclined to lean in to the orange bedding
influence with a variation of coral or terracotta/blush. That could combine with the plaster tones too.

Fernsrus · 02/01/2026 14:24

I’d lean away from the grey. Maybe pale pink (F and B Pink ground?) or jasmine white, dulux, which is more of a pale yellow. I’d change the duvet cover to plain white, with a throw or cushions of bring out the wall colour.

It’s south westerly facing.

You can get headboard covers that slip over the top if you don't want to keep it that colour. Amazon, Etsy, Shein etc have them. You just need to make sure you are measuring it properly as they come in different options even just the standard double ( made the mistake myself).

Oh, really? The base of the bed is also teal, but my mum does actually get a lot of fabric online. So she knows shops to get it from, and it can’t be that hard to attach it…

So that will make colours feel warmer if you do go for a bolder tone (ie you don't necessarily need a feature wall, it can be quite subtle). Another combination if you want new bedding could be yellow ochre/mustard - these would work well with the pale wood too. Even adding in some warm pale greens could be nice.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 02/01/2026 14:31

Green. A very light green. Like Kind Regards by Coat

icycoldbutnosnow · 02/01/2026 14:32

I’m now thinking covering the headboard could be the right way to go, I did rush into the bed as it was on clearance at the furniture shop…

Is the bed staying in front of the window? If so I'd dress the window with some lovely curtains that would frame the headboard like a half-tester.
Maybe a blue and white toile fabric.

If the bed can be moved then I'd get some eclectic art on the wall above it.

No, I’m likely going to move it, and the window doesn’t have a curtain rail

How do you want it to feel? Bright and energising? Cosy and comforting? Clean and fresh? Answer that question first and that can help you focus on the type of colours you want.

Yes! You can also get bed skirts that go around the bottom of you have a divan base.

There's no-drill pressure fit curtain rails that I've used before if you fancy?

I recently covered my headboard by bunging a lovely piece of heavyweight fabric over it. I was planning on sewing/pinning it but it's stayed in place!

You could always get some cheapo roll ends of different fabrics and try to see what you like without committing

That's exactly what I ask myself when styling a room and also when choosing things like what to watch on telly 😂

I think cosy and warm. I’m going to look into doing something about the bed first, as it really doesn’t fit the vibe I’m going for.

I think you could get cosy and warm with that bed. I'm seeing it as a soft blue-grey. I think you want to get some soft, slightly muddy, but still proper colours in there. So middle saturated Farrow & Ball tones.

This green could look nice, add some colour and not clash with the bed. https://www.pigletinbed.com/products/pine-green-pembroke-stripe-linen-duvet-cover
A lot of their stuff is those sorts of colours. Maybe also look at adding some soft, mustardy yellow.

The plaster pink you describe could still look nice with this sort of colour palette. Or paint the walls a proper colour.

Okay, I’ve ordered a white headboard cover and skirt (it felt like the safest option to make sure they somewhat match). Back to the drawing board for inspon

I’m quite liking these colour schemes from dulux. Not sure how I’d do it though

I’d go for the walls in a similar colour to the headboard and buy some amber colour luxury bedding. Opulent and cozy. IMO having furniture that matches the colour of the walls looks classier than a contrast and deep rich colours can look amazing.

NNforthispost · 02/01/2026 15:10

I like the idea of copper accents with that shade of bed. And maybe a moody blue on the walls if the room is a big enough size to take it.

Am now thinking if I can get copper colours in my room ……

And I love the high TC forms bedding from dunelm. It’s beautiful and silky soft, cool in summer and warm in winter. Think it’s reduced at the moment? You can get lots of different colours, though white is always classy looking. It’s beautiful to sleep in though it’s dear, but my current set I’ve had for four years and it still looks like new.
