All my historically fat friends have gone thin this year

1000 replies

donttellscotty · 30/12/2025 15:43

Okay maybe not ALL of them, but a few friends/acquaintances who have been very big for years and years, tried everything but could never shift the slightest bit of weight, have all had dramatic transformations and shed many stones over the past year. It’s just becoming expected now whenever I see another formerly large acquaintance or relative pop up on my feed with a super slim selfie.

I (rightly or wrongly) suspect it’s got to be WLIs or similar? Although all are adamant it’s a strict diet only. Just to add there is NOTHING wrong with jabs at all, and I’m aware it’s absolutely none of my business, and I sound mean but I wouldn’t actually discuss this in RL. It just got me thinking that being overweight might be obsolete in a few years?

Anyone else noticing this trend with people they know?

One of my friends has developed pancreatitis and another is having her gallbladder removed. Not exactly normal side effects that women are used to. On the milder side, I have a cousin who vomits and gets explosive diarrhoea if she eats anything slightly greasy or spicy.

Based on scientific rather than anecdotal evidence it’s unlikely that people experience anything serious.
My skinny neighbour had her gallbladder removed, no jabs involved. She had a shit diet involving lots of fizzy drinks and not much else. It happens.

ShawnaMacallister · 31/12/2025 08:22

Moro93 · 30/12/2025 21:52

I’ll be losing the weight one way or the other. If I can’t lose it through diet and exercise then I’ll be consulting a doctor rather than using injections that I’ve seen adverse side effects from in multiple people.

What do you think a doctor would recommend?!

GalaxyJam · 31/12/2025 08:35

ttcat37 · 30/12/2025 23:48

Would you be offended if you had taken it and someone didn’t believe you?

I’m always offended when someone doesn’t believe me about something, whatever that is, because it means they think I’m a liar.

Fitsthenewfat · 31/12/2025 08:38

ShawnaMacallister · 31/12/2025 07:59

Um yes you do...it doesn't fall off by magic

The magic bit is feeling full when you didn’t before, and having a head clear of food noise.

Amberlynnswashcloth · 31/12/2025 08:47

SexyFrenchDepression · 30/12/2025 23:11

But the food noise, so picking at your favourite foods just for the sake of it, is one of the major things the jabs stop. I couldnt care less if people try the jabs or not but it just seems so bizarre to not try them in case they dont work. I thought the same myself as just thought there is no possible way it will work for me. The reality was that within hours of the lowest dose I had full appetite suppression and no longer think about food at all. Food was constantly on my mind, and I binged often.

I only know a few people on the jabs and they look fantastic, they are eating clean and exercising, same as i am. That is the whole point in the jabs that you should be eating so much better with the correct nutrition etc (encouraged hugely by providers).

But I like eating! I want an appetite and ability to enjoy it. I just need to reign in the portions and frequency.

Binus · 31/12/2025 08:47

Perimenoanti · 31/12/2025 00:04

Well they aren't even lying. They just aren't telling you all detail. It's quite personal. I'd worry about people judging my financial expense, how I could possibly afford it etc. Don't forget they are on a journey and may just want to see how it goes and how they will manage.

Good point about worry over being judged for finances. I can imagine this might be quite common, as the WLI issue inspires some pretty odd and intrusive comments about money as well as weight.

As an example on this very thread, someone wanted to make the uncontroversial point that lots of obese people won't be able to afford the jabs. For some reason they felt the need to speculate about most prioritising holidays, home size and technology. So much more intrusive than simply saying not everyone can afford WLIs, and it weakened their argument too.

Sux2buthen · 31/12/2025 08:53

And still the ‘now she looks ill’ comments 🙄
dedpite probably being healthier than she’s been in a long time

Clearinguptheclutter · 31/12/2025 08:53

I never thought I knew anyone on injections but just this month I have seen three separate people I haven’t seen in a while, each has lost loads of weight, looks terrific, and said it’s due to the jabs

CremeCarmel · 31/12/2025 08:57

ShawnaMacallister · 31/12/2025 08:22

What do you think a doctor would recommend?!

My doctor recommended sleeping pills for insomnia. I respectfully declined them. I find meditation more effective for me. We don’t have to accept every drug the doctor offers. We have a choice.

IfyouStealMySunshine · 31/12/2025 08:59

Yes a few of my friends have and some people at work but all are open about it

KnewYearKnewMe · 31/12/2025 08:59

@FlowerUser- that does feel very similar.
Even ‘just’ experiencing the mental difference is a massive revelation in itself - for me, it helped hugely in understanding myself for the first time.

I’m glad you found something that worked for you 💕

GladFatball · 31/12/2025 09:01

I've had some wonderful comments over the last couple of weeks around how I will look 'anorexic' if I lose anymore. Bitch, please. I'm 5'2. I have 2.5 stone leeway before I would be underweight and I have no desire to go that far. Stop commenting on my body.

Sweetiedarling7 · 31/12/2025 09:05

Why would anybody have the right to know someone else’s health information?
The nosey brigade should see themselves as what they are.
Weight management is a private issue. If someone is rude enough to ask if somebody is taking a weight loss injection they deserve to be told mind your own business but because most people are more polite and don’t want conflict they have to resort to a white lie.
Just bugger off!

CremeCarmel · 31/12/2025 07:29

When I think about it I would love it if people know who have always been morbidly obese suddenly lost weight using WLI. Just because it isn’t for me doesn’t mean others shouldn’t have it.

One of the reasons I would love it is because I reallly hate fat discrimination and it would be great to have them suddenly be the thin ones.

One of the upsides of morbid obesity being done away with is that all the women who have always been thin will hopefully lose their “power”. They won’t be in a minority anymore and receive all the special treatment or be thought of as the beautiful ones. It is going to be an interesting few years.

I bet some people who have always been I. That special group of women who have always been thin are fuming.

What a revolting post.
Those of us with the good fortune to be naturally slim are not all sitting here fuming at those who aren't as you suggest. And I definitely do not have some sort of mystical powers or beauty associated with it. I am just not fat, that is all.

Why is it so accepted to be so fucking rude about slim people?

Ok so I’m a friend of yours that I have seen for ages. Your fat friend. I say - and mean - you look fantastic. I say I really want to be able to look great too, and I ask if you have any particular recommendations that I could use. Is that rude? Would you tell me the truth or ignore the WLI bit?

BigSkies2022 · 31/12/2025 09:26

The products are coming off-patent and will become cheaper. Pills will supplement the jabs, and will be cheaper. People will be able to stay on the drugs for life, as they will be cheaper. I am very pleased that there is finally an answer to the widespread obesity problem that modern diets and lifestyles cause. Hopefully governments will also take action on food manufacturers, advertising and support more help on getting people into exercise and cooking nutritious food.

And then the shit of people consuming hugely unhealthy food but in smaller quantities along with drugs that have side effects and issues we are only just starting to see will really start to hit the fan.

KnewYearKnewMe · 31/12/2025 09:31

@CremeCarmel

Your post is really unpleasant.
’all the women who are thin’…. You are as discriminatory as those you purport to abhor. Being fat or thin doesn’t lump you into a personality group. Whether you’re pleasant or not is individual, not weight related.

You’re mixing in the wrong circles if thin = nasty.

That’s sweet of you but don’t you worry yourself about all these imaginary fat friends. We don’t go round asking as we know what the answer is most of the time now and guess what (this may come as a shock so sit down) do know that eating a healthy balanced diet and exercising leads to weight loss

ffs who demands to know about people’s personal health issues it’s no one else’s business unless it’s let’s face it women when they start to look better

all this fake concern is so transparent

You can absolutely do that though. I have stayed on a very low dose to ensure thats the case. The first few weeks not so much but I didnt mind that as it gave me a great kick start. However if you know you can lose weight easily by having the willpower to reduce portions and frequency then obviously you won't need WLIs anyway. I dont believe anyone in WLI hasnt tried this first.

What makes you think that a) people who were overweight were consuming massively unhealthy food. Is it because if you’re fat, you must be thick and incapable of knowing which foods are healthy and which aren’t? And b) if they were eating unhealthy food, they can’t have changed their diet?

This. I know a couple of people who use Wegovy for weight loss and one had gallstones which they put down to the drug, when in actual fact they were there beforehand, just not causing any symptoms. Genetics are a factor, as well as being female, overweight and over forty. Diabetes also pre disposes you to gallstones, and rapid weight loss is a factor whether or not WLI are involved.

My DH has been on Mounjaro for diabetes for the last few weeks and has learned that if you stick to a healthy low fat diet in smaller amounts it minimises problems with digestion and stomach/bowel side effects such as wind and diarrhoea.

Obesity has links with poor diet and the fact is that many people simply can’t afford to eat healthily because fresh unprocessed food is out of their price range. Nothing to do with intelligence.

I don’t expect the doctor to recommend anything useful. I mean I’d be seeing a doctor to get tests done to find out why I wasn’t losing weight if I was eating in a calorie deficit and exercising.

Yes. But not everybody (by any means) is/was overweight because they ate ‘hugely unhealthy food’.
