I’ve just changed colour scheme but I’m not sure if I regret it. The grey was before and brown is now (yes I have posted before with photos of the carpet when it was laid and now NC!)

I love the wall colour OP, it’s cosy and goes well with the wood work.

Measureofaman · 29/12/2025 17:18

You haven't changed the colour scheme. You've swapped to a darker carpet. Sure, it looks cleaner but other than that, nothing exciting.

Tighteningmybelt · 29/12/2025 17:18

Have you kept the grey sofa?

bakebeans · 29/12/2025 17:20

I would get rid of the brown around the doors. It makes it look dated

MooMooAchoo · 29/12/2025 17:21

We’re getting brown sofas just waiting for them to be delivered. I’ve painted the walls too.

The brown warms it up a bit. You should move the clock down about two feet.

Dreamingofgreentrees · 29/12/2025 17:21

The brown woodwork needs to go. Appreciate it takes a lot of time to redo but it will be so worth it in the end!

Whatweread · 29/12/2025 17:22

I like it.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 29/12/2025 17:22

It's just very very bland. The grey was bland and the brown is bland .
Your photo shows a very small empty section of the room. I can't see anything like art on the walls, or bright cushions or colourful rugs

What are you aiming for? What do you want the room to be like?

TalulahJP · 29/12/2025 17:22

the brown wood is very dark. i’d paint it white or strip back and lime wash the pine wood (if that’s what it is).

outerspacepotato · 29/12/2025 17:23

I like the brown better. The grey looks so cold. The brown is a little warmer and more inviting.

I see the difference better when I enlarge the pics.

Agree with moving the clock down lower.

Aplstrudl · 29/12/2025 17:23

Paint the woodwork white for cleaner looks.

No87 · 29/12/2025 17:24

I'm not a fan of brown as a color and I don't like the wood color around the doors, feels very dated. If you like it, that's all that matters.

DaisyChain505 · 29/12/2025 17:24

nothing offensive with the colours it just looks rather empty.

Do you have a mirror or picture up?

Could you put a coffee table or a large footstool in the centre of the room?

Do you have sideboards anywhere with ornaments, photo frames etc?

You could add thinks like throws and cushions to the sofa to add some softness.

OttersMayHaveShifted · 29/12/2025 17:24

I really like the wall colour, but not the carpet, which doesn't go well with the walls imo. I agree that painting the door frames white would be good.

ClaredeBear · 29/12/2025 17:25

I agree that the clock needs to be moved down and the woodwork is dated and ruins the flow of the room right now. I also agree with the poster who asked about art and stying the room - difficult to tell without the complete picture. I much prefer the new colour though.

TheMentalMentalLoad · 29/12/2025 17:26

I’m not keen on the brown door surrounds / spindles and white doors. It should be one or the other (IMO).

Bigearringsbigsmile · 29/12/2025 17:26

Yeah...why is the clock so high up??

Yeah I think it's the brown around the doors I don't like - that combined with the brown carpet is a bit 70s rental, but sort those and it'll be fine

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 29/12/2025 17:29

I agree with pp's re; woodwork being lighter inc staircase to match.

Some lovely photos in frames a similar colour theme would go nice and I would add a framed length mirror on the wall where the clock is now, I don't necessarily mean for vanity reasons, mainly because I think mirrors in a room give a reflection or light and space. x

TimeForATerf · 29/12/2025 17:30

I would paint the skirtings, architrave and spindles white, it will completely change and modernise the look. The carpet and the walls are fine, it’s the woodwork.

tinyspiny · 29/12/2025 17:30

I don’t like the brown woodwork around the doors , the clock looks silly and the carpet is not to my taste . The walls are inoffensive .

BaubleMeTree · 29/12/2025 17:31

The reason it doesn't look right is because you chose a brown carpet that doesn't have the same tones as the wood. You could stain the wood darker or paint it, I am not suggesting white but a colour more in keeping with the brown carpet.

If you pick up a paint colour card say Little Greene Paint Company (you can order one online for free) the colours on the horizontal row all compliment each other including the neutrals. The same with each vertical set of colours too.

Once you understand why rooms like cohesive you will see it. Plus I agree with the other people saying your clock is way to high. There are lots of videos on youtube about colour theory, understanding tones and hues. I did an evening class in interior design for fun years ago. Look for shapes repeated in rooms from vases to chair backs to fabric patterns to art work.

NuffSaidSam · 29/12/2025 17:35

I like the grey better than the brown, but tbh neither are really my taste so I'm not sure my opinion is really worth anything (I'd never even consider brown or grey, I like a lighter background with brighter accents).

ComtesseDeSpair · 29/12/2025 17:36

Agree about staining the woodwork so there isn’t so much of a starkness of lots of brown but very noticeable because it’s different shades of brown. I think the room will look cosier when you have more furniture in an possibly a bright rug and some plants to add colour.
