To say I've got my mid-life face regime sorted?

Archetypal, 46 year old, perimenopausal, woman, fair, blotchy (if hot or cold), combination skin.

After many years of faffing with fancy brands, supermarket brands, pharmacy brands, or frankly doing very little (a cursory wipe with a face-wipe), I think I've got it "down" and this is my routine a vast majority of the time.

Morning:

Wash face in shower using Elemis Superfood Facial Wash.

Moisturise with Dr Jart Ceramidin Skin Barrier.

Make up:

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser (spf 30) - the palest colour (Pearl).
Beauty Pie Under Eye Genius.
Jones Road stick blusher on cheekbones.
Laura Mercier eye crayon (in a slightly mauve toned brown).
Perricone NM Mascara.
Bobbi Brown translucent powder on t-zone.
Burts Bees honey lip balm (must be the honey one).
Lipstick varies daily.

Evening:

Cleanse either with Elemis Cleansing Oil or Elemis Cleansing Balm (and a washable facial cloth).

Beauty Pie Plantastic Overnight Miracle Oil (genuinely, this is a game changer).

This is it... I can't imagine wanting or needing any different products for winter.

Other brands I've liked and may return for summer are Avene and La Roche Posay for lighter moisturising.

Things I havent solved: my very dry lower body (dusty), my stupid hair (needs washing every day, all the textures, only looks good for one week post cut).

Following for ideas as I have similar skin. I like Nivea Soft as a body moisturiser. And Margaret Dabbs foot cream daily.

boothandbones · 29/12/2025 13:50

No SPF?

SoScarletItWas · 29/12/2025 13:52

boothandbones · 29/12/2025 13:50

No SPF?

It’s in the tinted moisturiser - spf30.

Whether OP is using enough for it to count is another question, but I suspect very few of us do.

inezname · 29/12/2025 14:00

You need serums: hyaluronic acid, Niacinamide, peptides.

The Ordinary are fantastic and inexpensive.

LordEmsworth · 29/12/2025 14:03

Why would you be unreasonable to say that? Are you aiming for a 100% Not Unreasonable response or do you have a counterpoint?

mynameiscalypso · 29/12/2025 14:03

YABU not to use a separate SPF

Moretwirlsandswirls · 29/12/2025 14:04

Love that Dr Jarts cream - is it the yellow one? I might try that beauty pie oil. My skin sounds very similar to yours.

Agrumpyknitter · 29/12/2025 14:09

The beauty pie oil sounds good. Do you use a retinol? That’s the only thing I noticed and then you might try a separate SPF if using retinol. SPF will protect against skin damage.

dicentra365 · 29/12/2025 14:09

Thats interesting Im same age and skin type but with a smaller budget. I like the super drug vitamin E cleanser and also use a factor 50 in the morning, not sure how much this actually helps as Im pale and freckly and definitely aging worse than friends with different skin types.

TartyTara · 29/12/2025 14:37

I am early 50 and find less is more for me. The more serums I put on my skin and faff around with it, the worse it gets.

Hankunamatata · 29/12/2025 14:41

Iv simplified mine.

Aveeno calm and restore face wash
(read interesting article about not using foaming face washes for menopause skin)

Olay regenerist day cream
Olay retinol night cream

If its a make up day then use trinny London products

I haven’t seen the article, but agree with avoiding anything that foams. Not just for peri or midlife skin; it’s not great for acne or rosacea, for example.
I like:
Day:
Elemis cleansing balm.
The Ordinary BHA/AHA peel (weekly)
Ordinary Hyaluronic and Niacinamide serums
Cerave day cream SPF30
Cerave eye repair cream
Cetaphil sunscreen

Night:
Creightons Salycilic Acid toner(seems to be discontinued now)
Nivea waterproof eye makeup remover(YSL is my fave, but it’s prohibitively expensive)
Elemis plumping night mask(now discontinued, I would love an equivalent replacement if anyone has suggestions. It smells incredible and does what it promises).
Elemis eye revive mask
Tret(from Greek pharmacy)

She doesn’t “need” anything. Her post is being happy with her routine.

I am 61 and my regime is:
Wash face in shower daily using only water
If summer, then use sun cream
That's it.

I look exactly my age. It's fine.

DappledThings · 29/12/2025 15:12

YANBU if that works for you. I am the same age. Mine is:

  1. Get face wet in shower
  2. Add in an actual facial wash product if it's summer and have been getting hot or wearing suncream and it feels grubby.

That's it. I also feel IANBU.

I'm too sensitive for most serums, sadly, I've tried them from the The Ordinary and Dr Sturm, and sevwral inbetween - but anything remotely deep divey serumy makes me tight and blotchy.

You're right, almost no one uses enough SPF.

I always use some... enough? Probably not.

Yes, the white tube with the yellow bit. They also do a serum in the same range which is pretty good, but not buy-again good.

The Plantastic oil is great, I look visibly fresher in the morning.

Ooo I have tried Olay for years, I used to love their moisturiser.

I have also used calm and restore and found it great on my sensitive skin.

I was warned against foaming cleansers by the lady at Clarins, but I do like a nice foamy cleanse in the morning. The Elemis one foams, but only lightly.

It's always so disappointing when the best products are discontinued. I get that with perfume a lot!

Great that it works for you.
I have very tight feeling skin after using just water, even after just getting wet in the rain.

I've got no interest in looking young, I look how I look, it's more about skin comfort and feeling fresh.

Wovenlatticetart654 · 29/12/2025 15:30

Thank you for posting your daily face regime op!

It’s going to be really helpful when I sort my make up out after NY!

Sirisuri · 29/12/2025 15:32

Similar age, happy with mine too

Am

Water only face wash
Niacinamide serum
Simple moisturiser
30 spf ( whatever is in cupboard )

PM

Oil based cleanser ( dermatica atm )
Cream cleanser
Tret
Moisturiser
Sometimes La Roche Posey B5+ balm if a bit dry

Mainly budget products, but consistently has really paid off for me over past 6 months
