Who got the worst gift?

arcticpandas · 25/12/2025 21:47

Very very lighthearted. Some people are starving so no whining about not getting the perfect gift. Instead looking at it from a humoristic perspective: who got the worst gift in our family? Please add yours as well..
In our family;

  1. DH got 200 ml cologne while he wanted/needed 100 ml to bring with him on airplane (travels every week).
  2. I got fine chocolate with alcohol from uncle again (everyone has told him I do not like it but he just can't get it). He even added "I know you can't get enough of those". Not passive aggressive- that would be sinister. He really likes me and is convinced I like them.

Also got a large hand bag from DH. Not wildly expensive but still- the cords are too thin- I keep loads of stuff in my handbag. He bought it 3 months ago so can't return it.

  1. DS1 got a sort of a travel bag for mobile Phone to attach on bike from an aunt. He hasn't been riding his bike for years.

4.DS2 got a shirt of his favourite team that was so large on him it looked like a dress. Can't return it. Bil said he will grow in it😅

  1. Dh got Mil a a stylish coat size L. It was too small. Yet Mil isn't a big woman. I'm a medium and it was perfect on me but she's got bigger breasts. She wasn't happy about large being too small.. didn't say anything because very polite but it was obvious she was unhappy.
  1. Aunt got a big box of chocolate. She's on wli and barely eats anything. Def not chocolate. She discreetly passed them on to dh.

So who wins?

DP's father sent him an expensive bottle of whisky and two glasses.

After he started a health kick following his dad having a series of strokes aged 63, DP hasn't drunk alcohol for about nine years.

The glasses will be used for juice, the whisky will probably sit in a cupboard somewhere with any other alcohol we've been given for the next decade or so.

Don't open it. Donate it to a local fundraiser who us having a raffle.

I got nothing, exactly what I wanted 💞 (we asked for nothing this year as we have all we need)

Zanatdy · 26/12/2025 05:33

A watercolours paint set and colouring book. I am the least arty person ever. Appreciate the thought, but it will be passed on! Also feel bad saying this but got a lovely bag, but not sure at all on the colour. Not cheap either, and I can see it comes in lots of other colours, which i’d have preferred. Going to give this new bold colour a go though, as never know I might start to like it. It is lovely.

My mil got me an old lady house coat. Akin to the picture attached. But it’s pink. 😶

I bloody love this house coat.

My DH bought me a bale of grey towels. They’re from the White Company and he’s pleased as punch as apparently I needed new towels. I’ve been married 31 years and over the years he’s bought some strange gifts.

For Mothers Day once he walked past the perfume department in John Lewis to get to the towel department and bought me a bath towel.

in 31 years I have never ever suggested I needed a new towel!

If you don't like them, a women's shelter could really use them.

fouroclockrock · 26/12/2025 05:58

Im picturing myself in a housecoat now. I got 5 bars of soap (luckily I like soap) and body butter/cream (which I don’t like and always say I don’t like/use) along with 4 tubes of hand cream (which I quite like but already have 3 tubes of). This is mostly what I got so I’m assuming people see me as quite boring 😂.

Muffinmam · 26/12/2025 05:58

I got a foot spa. You can only add warm water to it. You can’t add bath salts or any soap or detergents. It has no heating element. The “massage” element does absolutely nothing it’s just a bit of plastic attached to the plastic bath that clips in and sits there and does nothing. It’s not broken - it’s designed to do nothing.

It came with a pumice stone which appeared to be some sort of plasticised concrete. It started to break up in my dry hand as I opened it and realised it wasn’t actually a pumice stones. It is plastic and almost a clay type concrete.

I never ever indicated I wanted a foot spa. It’s one more thing I need to throw out.

SoftBalletShoes · 26/12/2025 06:15

@arcticpandas Your DH is being really silly about the perfume because the economies of scale when it comes to perfume are huge. You'll have paid significantly less for one 200 ml bottle than two 100 mls. I would tell him the saving.

Make sure he keeps it in the dark with the lid firmly on. Mine sit in a closed drawer in a shaded room, but I would keep it in the box if I didn't have somewhere to put it. It will last longer in the dark. And yes to the decanting. It's not that easy but it can be done, using a syringe.

Here's what he needs to do: (I think he can do without the label-maker; the man in the video obviously does it for a decanting business.)
Decant perfume

There's also the option of just holding the spray over the opening of the travel bottle and pumping.

I tried a foot spa once and they're useless without a heating element. The water soon gets cold.

I got some old lady slippers and a super warm blanket from my DP and a few generic bits from my Amazon wish list which I mostly keep updated for the dcs to choose gifts from.
Overall he spent less than £100 on me - I'm not bothered about the amount of money he spent. However I know he's spent £450 on the other woman which I've recently discovered. He's booked a weekend away in a beautiful cottage for them both. They are going this weekend. He doesn't know that I know but he will when he gets back!!

Shakeyourwammyfannyfunkysong · 26/12/2025 06:32

I Know it's a lighthearted post but this is why I seriously cba buying gifts for adults. I'm not going to put care and energy into buying gifts for people who are probably going to be bitching about how awful my gifts are (internally or externally) and have no appreciation for how difficult they might be to buy for. I'll save the money and energy for my 7YO daughter thanks as she's not yet jaded and is the only person I see true joy in when she opens her gifts

Just get one of these if it works with a the larger perfume https://amzn.eu/d/9Nma4N6

Why did you try on her coat out of interest?

I'm sitting wearing my cozy housecoat that my DDs got me a couple of weeks ago for my birthday (Matalans). It's a cable effect and so warm. I much prefer it to a traditional dressing gown, but them I'm an old fogey of 62 😂

A romantic weekend away in London with partner, lovely I thought, because I usually have to take charge of booking everything when we go away.

Turns out he's booked us in a 'capsule hotel'. So separate rooms, in separate areas of the building. The room itself is actually just a bed you crawl into and a shutter you pull down. Like sleeping in a self storage facility. Don't worry though, apparently he'll buy me a combination lock so I can lock myself in and feel safe...... FML

😂 sorry but that one was funny
He will have to use his brain to sort that one out cause we're almost in ltb territory

Size 18 PJ's from DH - I'm a 12.

He's usually spot on with gifts and was a genuine mistake 🙈. Unfortunately they were Xmas ones though so doubt I'll get a straight swap.

Hope he didn't add "you'll grow into them" as Bil did with ds2 shirt aka dress 😅

I got a £15 gift voucher to Just Eat from my DH. I got him a £400 game console so we’re basically equal.

Wow. Bet he wanted you to spend the 15£ on him while his gaming. No, seriously how embarrassing for him. Bet he will go out and get you something soon. If not there is a good second market for gaming consoles...Just saying..

Ouch... are you a Mil?

Not moaning. This is a humoristic thread. Sorry you missed that info- it's in the OP.

A pair of Ugg type boots that I cannot even get on my feet !! There’s no zip on the side, the top is too narrow, but ‘“they are my size” he said. Yes but I can’t get my foot in them. My feet are slim and narrow, but the top of the boots are narrow funnels.

Also got so many chocolates it’s ridiculous.

Oh, I got very large feet but I'll happily take some of your chocolates 😊
