Who got the worst gift?

Very very lighthearted. Some people are starving so no whining about not getting the perfect gift. Instead looking at it from a humoristic perspective: who got the worst gift in our family? Please add yours as well..
In our family;

  1. DH got 200 ml cologne while he wanted/needed 100 ml to bring with him on airplane (travels every week).
  2. I got fine chocolate with alcohol from uncle again (everyone has told him I do not like it but he just can't get it). He even added "I know you can't get enough of those". Not passive aggressive- that would be sinister. He really likes me and is convinced I like them.

Also got a large hand bag from DH. Not wildly expensive but still- the cords are too thin- I keep loads of stuff in my handbag. He bought it 3 months ago so can't return it.

  1. DS1 got a sort of a travel bag for mobile Phone to attach on bike from an aunt. He hasn't been riding his bike for years.

4.DS2 got a shirt of his favourite team that was so large on him it looked like a dress. Can't return it. Bil said he will grow in it😅

  1. Dh got Mil a a stylish coat size L. It was too small. Yet Mil isn't a big woman. I'm a medium and it was perfect on me but she's got bigger breasts. She wasn't happy about large being too small.. didn't say anything because very polite but it was obvious she was unhappy.
  1. Aunt got a big box of chocolate. She's on wli and barely eats anything. Def not chocolate. She discreetly passed them on to dh.

So who wins?

Your parents sounds very nasty. I wouldn’t want people like this in my life.

Sorry to keep commenting on individual posts but some on these are just awful.

It's a difficult one because if you speak about it they say it's not their fault, they tried their best, how ungrateful I am and how no one's ever happy with what they do. Which in turn makes me feel awful, maybe theyre just terrible gift givers? 🥲

Ooof. That is someone who really doesn’t like you!

It was my mother in law 😂😂😂

I asked my mum for inexpensive trainers or money for them if she couldn’t manage the internet (she can’t). Instead I got an ornament of a cockerpoo. She knows I hate ornaments but ‘thought I’d like this one’…

omg, this is so funny.

My parents (most likely my mum though) gave me a £20 gift card for Next. The gift card or amount doesn’t bother me I love a gift card but it’s Next. I can’t stand that shop absolutely hate it, clothes and homeware stuff is just shite and the shop is overrated.

Online Next is fine. I buy lots of stuff from there but Id agree the actual shop is shite.

SoftBalletShoes · 28/12/2025 02:33

Well if you haven't read it, how do you know that it's terrible???

I don’t need to read a whole book to know the writing is awful. A page or two is usually enough.

My mil got me an old lady house coat. Akin to the picture attached. But it’s pink. 😶

it looks like it comes with a warning label to “keep away from fire”

Bushwoolie · 28/12/2025 11:09

We got a gift voucher.
DH spent it on wall brackets despite saying we'd share. We don't need wall brackets.

I got some old lady slippers and a super warm blanket from my DP and a few generic bits from my Amazon wish list which I mostly keep updated for the dcs to choose gifts from.
Overall he spent less than £100 on me - I'm not bothered about the amount of money he spent. However I know he's spent £450 on the other woman which I've recently discovered. He's booked a weekend away in a beautiful cottage for them both. They are going this weekend. He doesn't know that I know but he will when he gets back!!

That is awful. You need to start a thread and keep us all updated.

If I were you next year I'd have a conversation with my brother about no longer bothering with gifts for eachother if you're just buying things like chocolate bars. Seems a bit pointless.

Agree, tho why bother at all if you're only concerned about the £££ cost.

How have you come to the conclusion that no one else had an issue with it, when many others also commented? We should all try to be less wasteful.

There is no waste though... its a piece of paper that went in the bin (or recycling).

The (likely small) business gets the money and can continue to sell to customers that want it... nothing at all has has been 'wasted' except the givers time on gifting with nasty intent.

Its not like they killed a cow on cue when the voucher was created and set aside the meat specifically only for OP where it will now rot in the window front of starving children and animals... this isn't a cartoon, other people can buy the meat they sell that OP doesn't want.

I didn't suggest the food has been wasted. What has been wasted is the opportunity to do something good with a gift that was given with ill intent. PP doesn't care about that though, and I ceased caring about the whole topic shortly after replying!

Next have other brands online, maybe you could use your voucher on a non-Next item?

It’s still giving money to Next, i’ll
give it to someone at work.

Diblin93 · 28/12/2025 16:38

I love coffee. I can live without food but not without coffee. Everybody who know me, know I like coffee. My sister in law bought me a box of organic tea bags.

BeBlueBiscuit · 28/12/2025 19:26

How about a jar of anti-wrinkle cream from my dil.I guess she doesn't like, never get on though for years

BeBlueBiscuit · 28/12/2025 19:37

I've been using anti wrinkle cream since I was about 35! I don't think it means she doesn't like you.

BeBlueBiscuit · 28/12/2025 20:28

Haha, that's what me and sis bought my dad...in 1972,he loved it and used to hang it over the bath taps.

henlake7 · 28/12/2025 20:43

My mum, bless her, got so close this year....
A lovely scarf that is gold and sparkly and I couldn't realistically wear anywhere.
A new hot water bottle with an insanely difficult to get into cover.
And cosy bed socks that are trainer style (why would you want cold ankles?).
But the thought was there!

creamcakesintherain · 28/12/2025 21:51

Two waxed unrefridgerated cheeses. One was cheddar, one cheddar with Guiness. No one in the house likes Guinness. No expiry dates. Had been out of a fridge for a long time. Both in the bin.

Some people just seem to struggle with gift purchasing ? The cheese was from my MIL who buys really random gifts that we never like, such as flavoured gin (we both loathe gin), induvidual Radox bath soak from the supermarket (we both shower) Jack Daniels (DH doesn't like whisky) wrapped up free church leaflet books for DD (?), book on the human body for highly squeamish DS, reusable shopping bags, large ugly serving dish with an aubergine on it when we were just 2 of us and didn't host....the list goes on and on !

Rhaenys · 29/12/2025 10:57

I got money. The only physical gift I got were a pair of plain white socks, which I thought was quite funny
