Personally I don’t really once Boxing Day is over it’s over for me.

OP posts:
EchoedSilence · 25/12/2025 21:38

I don't have young kids and most of my family are back at work next Monday. Not everyone has next week off work.

WhereYouLeftIt · 25/12/2025 21:38

Absolutely!

However I am Scottish so growing up, New Year was more important than Christmas. 30th we'd be preparing for Hogmanay on 31st. Ah, it was so exciting then!

gogomomo2 · 25/12/2025 21:40

Tree up until after 12th night, 6th January. If you are fed up with Christmas already you started too early

CarrierbagsAndPJs · 25/12/2025 21:43

Christmas ends with the chalking of the doors on the epiphany for us. 6th jan. Decs come down on the 5th Jan…

… but then for us December is Advent.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 25/12/2025 21:44

Yes! Cheese week is still the festive season, right up until the 2nd jan

AhBiscuits · 25/12/2025 21:44

Yes. It's over on the 2nd for me. I'll probably cook a roast on new years day.

MyOtherProfile · 25/12/2025 21:47

Lindy2 · 25/12/2025 19:33

Yes. Christmas Eve right through to New Year's Day. That's all festive period.

This.

CarrierbagsAndPJs · 25/12/2025 21:51

EchoedSilence · 25/12/2025 21:31

What do you do that's festive though?

We also have family parties, nights out with friends, we go to Alton Towers for their christmas panto and swim break, we go on dog walks out of the area (ending in the pub), visit the beach, big sale shopping trip with christmas money. We always eat our dinner together at the table but we still light the candles on our advent wreath until the 6th with our meals and use our christmas crockery until then too.

The end is the 6th where the children get (a much smaller budget of) presents to open, door chalking and everything away until next year. This year we will also add taking our door wreath to my dad’a grave. My mum used to always do this with her dad’s grave.

EatMoreChocolate44 · 25/12/2025 21:55

Yes, finally off work and going to enjoy the festive period up until the 6th January. Especially love this week between Christmas and New Year when I can finally relax, pop on movies in my Christmas pjs, eat rubbish and enjoy the Christmas tree and decorations with my family. Don't understand after all the effort and build up why people don't make the most of the next week or two. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Brefugee · 25/12/2025 21:56

All the wayto Epiphany. The three kings go round the village blessing the households and collecting for charity

All the water to Epiphany. The three kings go round the village blessing the households and collecting for charity

Andthatrightsoon · 25/12/2025 21:57

Betwixtmas, of course!

EchoedSilence · 25/12/2025 22:02

So everyone on this thread has next week off work?

FancyCatSlave · 25/12/2025 22:03

12 days of Christmas house here. It’s not over until then.

My favourite bit is from Boxing Day until school goes back. It’s very relaxing.

RecordBreakers · 25/12/2025 22:06

I love these next few days.
We've got two get togethers with family we've not seen today.
Then we'll all go out for a big walk one day. (Those who aren't back at work).
Panto.
Watching a bit of Christmas tele we've not had time to watch today or in the run up to today.
I know I'm unusual, but I LOVE cold turkey sandwiches too.

Springbaby2023 · 25/12/2025 22:14

Not usually as I’m usually at work but this year I’m off until January so will very much be doing festive thing 30th/31st!

Starandflowers · 25/12/2025 22:20

So everyone on this thread has next week off work?

Yes. I always prioritise part of my annual leave allowance for the Christmas period.

Cat1504 · 25/12/2025 22:26

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 25/12/2025 20:10

Yes of course it is. It really depresses me when people think it’s all done and dusted by Boxing Day.

Why? Most people will be back in work on 29th ….Christmas all done…..including me…my tree will be down on the 28th

Cat1504 · 25/12/2025 22:27

Starandflowers · 25/12/2025 22:20

Yes. I always prioritise part of my annual leave allowance for the Christmas period.

To me that’s a waste of leave…..I take leave to go away …..plenty of time in December to do meets up and anything christmassy

WillowIvy · 25/12/2025 22:27

No we don’t. When the children were small it was different but not now. DH and I will be back to business as usual on Monday, we accommodate all staff who want to have the full two weeks off over Christmas and New Year so we need to be back at work. We’re always really busy during January anyway and like to have everything that comes in during the break dealt with before everyone comes back on 5th Jan.

I don’t understand the bitchiness on here at times with taking decorations down tbh. Just because some of us prefer to get the house back to normal before new year doesn’t mean we’ve had decorations up from Oct/Nov and are sick of them. Ours went up 2 weeks ago but due to the demands of our business and wanting to give staff the choice to have a proper break with their families, ours will be down on Sunday.

FlatErica · 25/12/2025 22:29

Starts at winter solstice on 21 December for me and goes through to orchard wassailing on 5/6 January.

Not when you live 500 miles away from family, so not a waste of leave for me

socks1107 · 25/12/2025 22:33

Sort of, I’m still relaxed and enjoying a slower pace until the 2nd even though I work it most years

beadystar · 25/12/2025 22:48

Yes, it’s the festive period until at least after New Year’s Day. For me anyway. Technically it ends on 6th Jan.

itsthetea · 25/12/2025 22:53

When did you start your festivities ? If you start in November I guess you may be done

I like to keep it going till mid January
it means you don’t have to rush so much - relax and enjoy

and the relaxing is so important -so good at this time of year. In sync with the natural world

I’d never do back to work until after new year
