So here I am at 9:40 on Christmas morning doing a full face of makeup before getting started on Christmas lunch. I mean a full on glam makeup that would be suited to the red carpet!

She’s always complaining that we don’t take enough photos as a family, so here I am making sure I’m ready for the millions she takes.

Well yes..because you want to represent yourself a certain way. I’m not insulting you, I’d do the same and go full glam but we can’t blame anyone else for that choice ☺️

Thats not being vain though

If I’m going to work/a social occasion I’ll be wearing makeup. I only don’t wear it if it’s a weekend and I’m not going to be socialising

That's your choice. Doesn't mean you have to wear it and if you feel you do it's still a choice to act on that so you can't really moan about a choice to do sonething unnecessary.

Can't be arsed myself and I'm sure you look fine without it.

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 25/12/2025 11:26

I see someone suggested changing your FB settings so she can't tag you without you approving it...but that doesn't mean she can't post the photos. Personally I would pull evil faces at her or make myself a sign saying 'Photo Wanker' and hold it up whenever she gets her phone out!

everywhereeverything1 · 25/12/2025 10:39

vain? Because I don’t want my makeup free face plastered all over Facebook?

What's wrong with a make up free face? Does your husband have a make up free face? Should his face be never seen on Facebook? I have a make up free face. Am I an abomination to women? Get a grip of yourself and change your Facebook settings. Is selfish not to want your picture taken. It's not for you, it's for others to remember you by.

We’ve just never been a big photo family. Some parts of it I don’t mind, like the selfies with everyone. But it’s the photos as we open presents or eat dinner that get me a little!

I hate people taking photos when I'm eating, it's so rude.

Binus · 25/12/2025 11:54

everywhereeverything1 · 25/12/2025 10:32

We’ve all mentioned it to her a few times. She just says she likes to have the memories and won’t post them, yet they always end up there!

So rude.

Unfortunately her behaviour means you'll need to make a thing of it. She needs telling, a lot, to stop taking photos of people who haven't given permission.

Enigma54 · 25/12/2025 11:56

God, I can’t think of anything worse than being plastered all over SM at Christmas ( or any time!)

CautiousLurker2 · 25/12/2025 12:01

Never been more grateful that not one of my DC or inlaws are on social media. Not photos taken go to anyone other than the people present.

I’d hate this. I do pop a bit of makeup on today and a best top, as am generally in doggy walking clothes and bare faced these days, but I’d hate to feel that I am on parade.

Not everything needs to be shared with the wider world.

I have never once said any of that. It is my personal preference that I am photographed wearing makeup

I have a friend like that. I make a face in most of them. One day she's going to clonk me on the head.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/12/2025 12:24

It seems that the 'Spirit of Christmas' has evaporated early this year, and we haven't even had the King's Speech yet.🫤

godmum56 · 25/12/2025 12:27

your house, ban photos. Its that easy.

I don't understand why you can't tell her to stop taking pictures.

IhadaStripeyDeckchair · 25/12/2025 12:34

SIL please stop taking photos & be present in the moment. I dont want pictures of me & our kids available to all in social media and I find your constant photos taking rude and intrusive in a very negative way.

myhaggisblewup · 25/12/2025 12:45

Ranty peep here 😃
I cba with all the socials shit let alone the photos, I always sit them out, and don't fart around trying to photograph /video my lovely expensive dinner I'm going to eat it while it's hot so take your phone and shove it up your arse love. 😘

Yes. She doesn’t anyway

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 25/12/2025 12:53

OP just say, “please can you just share photos with immediate family and don’t put on social media? I don’t want me or the kids photos on Facebook/instagram/whatever her preferred platform is. Thanks.”

Wishihadanalgorithm · 25/12/2025 12:59

SIL, stop taking photos of me and posting them. In fact, unless it’s a pic I’m happy to be in (and you have to ask me first) do not take pics of me.

If you do, and then post them, I’ll have to ask you, and then the site, to remove them. I’m sure you understand we aren’t all attention whores.

Obviously the last part may be omitted 😉
