Christmas Eve boxes - what’s in yours?

Exactly that - what do you put in your kids Christmas Eve boxes, if you do them?
DD8 has got a book, some Christmas bath bombs, Christmas themed chocs/sweets, little bits like scented pencils from smiggle and a nail art pen set. DS5 has got a book, a sticker book, colouring in book, bath bomb, Christmas themed chocs

Never heard of them!

I only have on Mn - not heard about them with friends and family

Newyearsameme26 · 24/12/2025 16:09

I think that's what Christmas day is for.

SheinIsShite · 24/12/2025 16:10

Never done it, will never do it.

Presents are given tomorrow. Not today.

Poms · 24/12/2025 16:13

AIBU is a strange place to put a thread like this. It’s almost as if the OP is trying to start the annual Christmas Eve box bun fight.

TheWonderhorse · 24/12/2025 16:13

We do them, but it's literally their new pyjamas, a little game to play together, hot chocolate and a gingerbread house.

I don't give extra presents (they had new PJs and I bought hot chocolate every year anyway) but it's festive activities to do together.

We don’t do Christmas stockings, the Christmas Eve boxes are kind of in place of those I guess

Oooh controversial drip feed 😂

Why not?

Because you don’t like lying to your children about Santa?

Topseyt123 · 24/12/2025 16:14

We never did Christmas Eve boxes. They just got all of their presents on Christmas Day and that was plenty. No need for anything else.

Minesril · 24/12/2025 16:16

The elf left a goodbye note along with a small Lego set each - they came free with the big Lego presents so we didn’t spend ‘extra’ but they loved building them this morning.

Nothing because the children get enough on Christmas Day. I don’t understand this need for mass consumption, it’s something that none of my circle of friends do as it’s seen as quite tacky and unnecessary.

Edited

We have reached peak Mumsnet.

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 24/12/2025 16:19

DD is 11 and every year I've intended to do a Christmas Eve box (we even have the box!) but I never know what to put in there! She gets new PJs for Christmas itself (tradition) so I don't know if she needs new ones for Christmas Eve. I bought some hot chocolate sachets with marshmallows but it looked really sad alone in the box so we're just going to make it 🤣

Next year, maybe.
(Probably not 🤣)

It’s always so sad when people are so actively nasty about how other people celebrate Christmas.

PJs, book and hot chocolate, OP. They really look forward to them.

bigsoftcocks · 24/12/2025 16:19

All of the ideas mentioned are sticking fillers. What TF do you then put in stockings ??

Defo no CE boxes here. We usually choose one small present from the tree to open, if I’m feeling the vibe.

Wildywondrous · 24/12/2025 16:21

All the people who are loving to comment that they don't do them.
That wasn't the question, it was what do you put in them.

Op, in my dd's I've put non Christmas themed pj's, fluffy socks, chocolate coins, sachet of hot chocolate, cheap game and a teddy.

They've got plenty to open tomorrow and it's nothing I wouldn't have wrapped up so hasn't cost any more, (for the Grinches who say it's only about commercialism).
Dd's are having showers now then will put their pj's and socks on, make their hot chocolate and cuddle up with their teddies to watch a Christmas film.

I understand we all have different traditions but I really don't get why people feel the need to be smug about not doing boxes/elf/reindeer food etc.
Merry Christmas to the ones who are currently enjoying their Christmas Eve and not trying to burst other people's bubble.

Tootiredforthis23 · 24/12/2025 16:26

The only things I buy new are:

New pjs
Hot chocolate and squirty cream
Bath bomb

Then they have things which are reused every year
Santa plate for cookies etc,
The night before Christmas book
Santas key
sacks to leave out for presents

I don’t think ours are wasteful or over the top, I’d buy new pjs anyway as we had them as a kid on Christmas Eve and we drink hot chocolate anyway, it’s more just a nice little thing to get ready for bath and bedtime on Christmas Eve.

FerretsPlease · 24/12/2025 16:29

Pyjamas
Socks
Oddballs underwear
Slippers
New clothes for the panto (we always go Christmas eve)
Annual
Fancy mug for hot chocolate
Vegan hot chocolate stirrer
Bath stuff
Vegan chocolate
Dozen Krispy kreme each

Don’t forget advent boxes!! 🙄

And December 1st breakfast.

Parker231 · 24/12/2025 16:48

Do those doing boxes also do stockings?

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 24/12/2025 16:49

That sounds really like a list of stocking fillers to me.

TheWonderhorse · 24/12/2025 16:51

Parker231 · 24/12/2025 16:48

Do those doing boxes also do stockings?

Yes here, but they are more gifty than the things I put in the box. The Christmas Eve box is 100% things that are specifically for use on Christmas Eve.

Sarover · 24/12/2025 16:53

Nobody I know does rod on the shelf or Christmas Eve boxes. I think they were both invented a couple of years ago by Poundland.

hmmnotreallysure · 24/12/2025 16:55

We don't do Christmas Eve boxes but do do 1st Dec boxes to go with their advent calendar. We usually put in pretty similar to what you've put in but we also add either Christmas jumper or Christmas pjs

Mydogisagentleman · 24/12/2025 16:55

Don't do them.
I tried about 5 years ago, possibly more.
Dd who is now 24 told me that I had fallen for Asda's marketing hype.
She had a point

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 24/12/2025 16:59

Does anybody go with the Old Father Time tradition at new year ... money (coins) in slippers

Doseofreality · 24/12/2025 17:02

PJs
Lush Bath Bomb
Face Mask
Perfume - Aftershave (M&S ones)
Selection Box
Hot Chocolate spoon
Board game.

I think it’s a Mn invention - here was the first time I’ve heard of all the extra presents.
