There's so much dog poo about now it's basically a trampling of dog poo

OP posts:

Babies dribbling on the floor
pets bums on the floor
food crumbs on floor
foot sweat on the floor
dead skin and toenails on the floor.

I don’t want to walk on that with my bare feet!
You’re floors aren’t as clean as you think!

Edited

Your shoes aren't as clean as you think.

People should really do some research about the toxins they bring into their homes when wearing shoes inside, they'd then know babies dribbling should be least of their worries.

suburberphobe · 21/12/2025 19:13

OP, you need a hobby.

I'm not taking my shoes off when visiting someone unless they provide - clean! - slippers.

Just don’t step in dog poo! Simple!

There is dried dog poo that is hard to see and left over bits of poo after someone has scooped it up. Sorry if that is Tmi

katseyes7 · 21/12/2025 19:14

I have laminate flooring downstairs (rented house). My floors are FREEZING (besides the bit under the big rug).
I don't expect people to take their shoes off.
But when l go to someone's house where they have carpet l take my shoes/boots off at the door.

Whereisthesun99 · 21/12/2025 19:14

We are shoes off house (as our all our family) I find it very rude people who don’t ask if they need to remove there shoes and then walk around my clean home with their dirty outside shoes ! I have had one person trample mud all over my carpets! When I was childminding this was one of my rules no shoes on in house, when Prospective families came around, those that kept there shoes on and did not ask if they should remove them were never offer a childcare space as I saw it as total disrespect of me and my home.

I have 32 people coming to my house on Christmas Eve for a fork supper and mulled wine…I cannot imagine 32 pairs of shoes in the hall and 32 barefoot people in my house

People usually wear socks in winter under their shoes? Wouldn’t be barefoot

The hall? This is mumsnet. Do you not have a large boot room? 😉

FrightfulNightfull · 21/12/2025 19:43

What do you do (shoes off people) do about crutches or wheelchairs?

You’re right, I’ll bow my head in shame and leave now 😳😉

It's really rude for guests to assume they can walk in with shoes on

No it's not. It's incredibly rude to ask them to take their shoes off. At least tell them in advance so they can stay away.

No.

Suit yourself. Just trying to help but never mind.

I have a friend who makes us take shoes off...I hate it.. my feet are always freezing

Take some warm socks or slippers with you next time you visit!

In fairness I wouldn’t choose someone obsessed with clean carpets to care for my young child either. I would be looking for someone able to unclench and let the children play normally, which for a healthy toddler sometimes includes making a mess. So with respect, it’s probably a lucky escape for both parties.

I genuinely do not understand why people have carpets when they seem to cause nothing but stress.

Just get laminate, LVP, or vinyl and a steam mop.

I know. It's bizarre.
Surely a floor is there for you, you're not there for the floor.

Some of us don’t have a choice. My landlord has carpets so that’s that.

Topseyt123 · 22/12/2025 03:49

No. It is not rude to wear shoes in someone else's house provided they are clean and not caked in mud.

It is very rude though to make a visitor take shoes off (unless clearly caked in mud as above).

SouthernNights59 · 22/12/2025 06:00

I have rarely in all my over 60 years been to anyone's house where they have taken their own shoes off after being outside so why should I?

Fortunately taking shoes off isn't the norm where I live - we are quite able to clean our floors if necessary (and yes, carpet is the norm here).

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 22/12/2025 08:25

I really don’t get why it’s ’incredibly rude’ to ask someone to take their shoes off. Really? I can think of some incredibly rude things but thats not up there by any means. This thread is batshit. People saying they will loose their dignity by having to take their shoes off?🤣 That everyone will be traipsing round the house in bare feet?!!! Who doesn’t wear socks in winter?!?

Some people struggle to take shoes on or off, or wear shoes specifically designed to support foot problems. So insisting is presuming that they have the mobility to do that.

My dad doesn't exactly go round telling people that a quarter if his foot is missing for example!

OhDear111 · 22/12/2025 08:34

Muddy or dirty shoes? Yes, take them off. Otherwise no need.

Evaka · 22/12/2025 08:35

This fucking topic. Good god. Some love shoes off, some hate it. Neither is right or wrong, it's an utterly unimportant personal or cultural preference.

Ygfrhj · 22/12/2025 08:40

I was raised wearing outdoor shoes in the house but now I think it's disgusting.

Dogs also piss all over the pavement. Dog poo gets washed around when it rains. I have seen humans poo on the pavement. Toe fungus inside a sock vs poo residue, I'll try my luck with the fungus.

Jesus. You wouldn’t insist in these circumstances. Obviously. 🙄

I wear my slippers, my own slippers, that no one else is allowed to wear, first thing on a morning. When I get dressed, I put my shoes on and leave them on until I get changed for bed. If I've been out and have fancy shoes on and not my comfy trainers, I might change back into my slippers when I get home.

This is so weird to me. I cannot imagine sitting, relaxing in my own house with shoes on!

Good grief anyone with time enough to “research” outdoor toxins needs a hobby.
