Period after a year

Kingscallops · 20/12/2025 23:55

Hi folks. I've not had children. Not had a period in a year. I'm 55 and I came on today. I was shocked because I thought I'd done with it. Should I see my GP?

I'm so pleased for you and hopefully my situation will be the same. Thank you x

I dont think you have anythig to worry about op but do see the GP, be on the safe side.

Im a lot younger than you and i can go, a month a time no period then 2 in one month.
I saw my GP and she said it was normal, It kept happening so went back different doc told me it can be the start of peri, all my checks came back clear.
This month i had 2 periods.
But im sure you are ok and its nothing at all to worry over, so try not to over think it.

In my next life i want to come back as a gay man.

I’m so pleased at the responses on here, definitely wise to get it checked out. It is SO important that we advocate for ourselves.

@Kingscallops - wishing you a peaceful Xmas and best wishes for getting checked in the new year. You definitely did the right thing posting and asking and I’m glad that it’s given you some reassurance.

Bikergran · 21/12/2025 08:33

Definitely.

Kingscallops · 21/12/2025 11:56

Thanks ever so much everyone. I'm making an appt tomorrow. Merry Christmas xxxxxx

Well done, keep us posted, have a lovely a lovely Christmas. Just for reassurance I have 5 friends who have gone through this and only one had cancer and she is 3 years post hysterectomy and doing very well.

fisherhatesgravel72 · 21/12/2025 12:20

Did you have any other symptoms? A few months ago I had a really heavy one that lasted 7 days. The last one was 14 months earlier. I didn’t go to the gp as I had sore boobs a few days before so I knew it was coming. Definitely hormonal as the hot flushes and insomnia have come back too 🙄

ChristmasHug · 21/12/2025 12:32

Glad you're going to get it checked out.

Out of interest, have you has a vaccination recently? Recently menopausal women getting a period after the covid jab was quite common (and obviously no one looked into why).

Hankunamatata · 21/12/2025 12:33

Worth having a chat with GP. My mum said her twatty period appeared once a year for 3 years before it finally Fed off

No other symptons. I have increased exercise and gone on a health kick. I was reading that might be a contributory factor.

Sorry about your insomnia - that's an extremely frustrating thing to go through x

No vaccinations since the second one during covid. Interesting theory though.

You still need to be checked out as it was post 12 months,I had the same sore boobs etc and mine was a cyst that needed surgery. You can't assume anything is just hormonal.

Do you mind me asking what the surgery was like x

I had ten months between my last two periods, but I had been anything from three to 19 weeks for nearly ten years of peri. Bleeding when you are menopausal (after 12 months) should definitely be checked out.

Keyhole surgery and I was in for 2 nights. I had a cyst and one fallopian tube removed. No driving for 8 weeks . I had to take it VERY easy for the first month and unfortunately got an infection which slowed up recovery a bit. I don't work but they said I would need 8 weeks off if I did and I would say that was about right.

Hey OP,

definitely wise to get checked out.

i’m 56 now.

i was 3 years post-menopause during Covid and had a period after both vaccinations,

Ive also lost 5 stone with Mounjaro and had monthly spotting along with the feeling of getting my period,

on all occasions I’ve been to the GP and sent for scans which have shown nothing sinister.

well done for taking action and here’s hoping that all is well xxx

Thanks ever so much. I've just requested an online appt which states I need to be seen ASAP. Glad you're OK and WELL DONE on your massive weight loss 🍾 🥳 xxxx

I hope you’re ok. I had my post menopausal bleed referred on the two week referral. The doctors do take it seriously, as they should.

Thank you. I accidentally completed the routine appt form but have just phoned surgery to change it to immediate appointment x

I had exactly this. I was referred under the 2 week window and was seen quickly. The consultant examined me and said he could see a polyp. He was fairly sure that was the cause. He removed it then and there, with minimal discomfort and said if that was it , I might bleed slightly from the removal but it would heal quickly and there should be no further bleeding. If that wasn’t the case more tests were needed. I did bleed slightly for about 3 days and then, that was the end of it.

My goodness, he removed it there and then! I'm such a wimp with anything medical. Glad you're OK now x

Just a quick update. I had a pelvic ultrasound today followed by a transvaginal (internal) ultrasound. I was dreading the latter but felt nothing. I was told no abnormalities had been detected and that findings would be sent back to my GP to interpret. I may be referred to the other test with a camera. Thank you so much for all you lovely ladies for sharing your experiences. I do feel better but will feel more comforted when GP shares their feedback xxx

Thanks Tea and I remember your very kind words. Sort of feel I'm not out the woods yet but trying to remain positive. I've had a week of anxiety and thinking the worst xxx couldn't believe what a breeze the ultrasound wand was but don't expect the same ease with the camera, if I need it xx
