To book holidays for 2026 already

DH and I haven't been on many holidays before and only just started going on holidays since having DC. I tend to book holidays in advance of 10-11 months to an year and my DH thinks it's unrealistic as we don't know how things will be. But I think I will get the cheapest price if I book now for December 2026. What are your thoughts and experience?

One holiday and two short breaks (one UK, one abroad) booked for 2026. Need something to look forward to!

Have another short break to book (UK), and possibly another abroad towards the end of the year depending on finances.

If you have to go in school holidays there will probably be more choice and likely cheaper if you book in advance.

If not, it will almost certainly be cheaper to leave it for now - I learned this lesson this year as I paid £230 for a return flight to Lanzarote 3 months in advance only to find I could have booked the same two weeks before I went for £90 Hmm. However, the choice of accommodation was a lot less, so if I do it again, I'll probably have to book accommodation then either overpay for a flight or chance leaving it to see if the price goes down.

Owlmoonstar · 20/12/2025 21:04

Absolutely not. We have 3 booked for next year already! Sooner the better.

Owlmoonstar · 20/12/2025 21:05

Oh, and one for march 2027. Go on and book. Life is short, life can be stressful, take the joy and run with it.

I booked our accommodation for summer 2026 in summer 2025, and just finalised the flights. I think we might have saved a bit of money but more importantly the suite we wanted in the hotel we wanted to go to is now sold out, so I’m glad I got in early. If I wasn’t as fussy about hotels it probably wouldn’t matter as much!

PersephoneSmith · 20/12/2025 21:08

I’m all booked up for ‘26. I’ll probably start thinking about ‘27 in the summer. I’m going to Canada in April and cruising to New York in October next year.
Forward planning is essential.

GlmPmum · 20/12/2025 21:09

Booked mine soon as got back from this years back in August!

PeloMom · 20/12/2025 21:10

I book some holidays a year or so ahead and some last minute (or anything in between). You never know what will happen - we have had to cancel the night before due to sick kid etc so might as well book cheaper and when there’s lots of choice, just pick the cancellable option.

Flingotheflamingo · 20/12/2025 21:14

I’ve already got three trips booked for 2026 and will almost certainly add another two at short notice, because apparently I lack restraint.

I checked through my emails and realised I actually booked our main summer 2026 family holiday back in August, for July. I was idly browsing for inspiration and ended up booking a reasonably priced, week-long all-inclusive resort that is extremely child-focused (kids’ clubs, multiple pools, slides, the works.)

Our main family holiday is usually less “relaxing getaway” and more “test of endurance” for DH and me, as we’re far more into culture and relaxation, but never mind. The children will be living their best lives, and that’s the important thing.

This is the first year for a long time I've nothing booked for next year. I've still got two weeks left to rectify that though.

I have been trying but with one DC at uni and the other at college it's not as straight forward this year.

I'm hoping Jet2 have a boxing day sale.

queenofwandss · 20/12/2025 21:19

I always book our summer holiday for the next year in September after the kids go back to school. I find the price jumps drastically in January even with a “sale” to entice you in.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 20/12/2025 21:23

Got 3 booked already 😂 2027 planned, just need to book.

Pedallleur · 20/12/2025 21:23

Either the accommodation is cheap and flight expensive or vice versa. Obv popular destinations the flights fill up especially if the flights are limited.

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 20/12/2025 21:24

We booked our Feb 2026 holiday last spring and our October 2026 holiday in the summer.

IwishIcouldconfess · 20/12/2025 21:26

Got 3 UK holidays & 4 foreign holidays booked.

Crumbelina · 20/12/2025 21:28

I booked flights to Mauritius (for August 26) back in October. I'll book the Air BnBs in Jan.

IggyAce · 20/12/2025 21:30

I’ve already booked a weekend in London, and currently looking at booking Budapest and a weekend in the school summer holidays to take ds to the space centre.
Also considering a European Christmas market visit, which we are likely to book sooner than later.
Its nice to have something to look forward too.

As my username suggest I love planning holidays… 3 for 2026 already booked and 2 for 2027!

TreeDudette · 20/12/2025 21:43

I book roughly 18 months ahead normally for summer and my various holidays and weekend trips are booked out to October next year. Currently enjoying this years preXmas getaway and discussing what to book for next year. Will certainly have it booked before end Jan. I always check on terms for refunding and spread cost and I have travel insurance. Works for us.

Stompythedinosaur · 20/12/2025 21:46

Seems fine to me, I booked out main 2026 hol months ago!

Teenagelament · 20/12/2025 21:47

How does it work with work when you're booking so far in advance? Do you ask for the time off before booking the holiday?

NeedWineNow · 20/12/2025 21:47

We’re booked for 2026; short cruise in January, week in Greece in August and longer cruise in September. The August one we had to book early as it is a small popular hotel which gets booked very quickly. The September cruise has been booked since it was first advertised last year as we got a really good price..

Dublassie · 20/12/2025 21:48

4 trips booked ! Sure it’s only a few weeks away !!!

taralovey · 20/12/2025 21:49

We're booked for 2026, have been for a while and onto 2027/2028

We cruise though so book earlier as we like to have optimum choice of suites on the ships x

I’m lucky that holiday requests are more of a formality to ensure the number of hours taken are correct, I manage my own workload and just plan accordingly If I have leave coming up
