Does this sound like a low thyroid?

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 07:18

My oral temp is around 36 to 36.4
My resting heart rate is around the low 60s.

I’m overweight and currently always feeling cold or unable to control my temperature. I get facial flushing too.

I have joint pain, fatigue and awful periods.

Just wondering if I need to get tested.

I also have lots of digestive issues and get brain fog

Could be.

are your hair or nails coming out?

peri is also a possibility depending on age, or endometriosis

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 07:23

I’m 36 so I don’t think peri. Although all these symptoms come on worse around the 10 days before my period.
I’m currently due on and feel like I’ve got a rock in my uterus area.

I had similar but my thyroid results were fine. HRT and mounjaro have taken away all those syptoms, exceptvmy left ears always reads as colder than my right!

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 07:24

My hair has always been thick so I don’t think it’s falling out. My nails seem to flake off easily though.

I don’t think I’ll qualify for HRT at 36 will I?
I can’t afford mounjaro unfortunately.

You may. When did your Mum start with perimenopause symtoms? Are you on anything to help with periods eg POP or coil? Do you take multivatims?

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 07:26

Oh and I get sores on my tongue a lot especially before a period e.g. right now

OP posts:
WarriorN · 20/12/2025 07:28

Constipation is a key symptom for me

Octavia64 · 20/12/2025 07:28

My dd has thyroid issues.

joint pain, fatigue and always feeling cold are classic symptoms.

the difficulty with diagnosis is that they are symptoms of lots of things.

the only real way to be sure is blood test.

when my dd is bad she also loses hair (comes out in patches) and sometimes nails come off.

if you have digestive issues look at excluding the most common allergens and intolerances - alcohol, caffeine, dairy. Be aware that if you have been eating them for years it can take months for your system to recover.

@Itsjusttoomuchtoday

Synthetic hormones have never agreed with me. I was on the combined pill many years ago and it sent me crazy.
My mum doesn’t seem to remember when she started Peri but her periods stopped in her early 50s.

I take vitamin D3 + K2, iron, b complete and magnesium glycinate.

You can do a thyroid test at home. There’s plenty of people that sell them. You take a blood sample and send it off and they’ll let you know if it is out of range.

we’ve used them during Covid

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 07:31

Can you send me a link if possible?

That can be a number of things such as nutritional things but also just fluctuating hormones

my tongue is better since I upped folate and b12. Folate was nearly deficient and b12 seems to drop if I don’t supplement, though I’ve never gone as low as deficient (because I’ve always supplemented and your body stores it for a couple of years.)

but it can also be zinc

the best thing to do is speak to the gp - if they can rule out thyroid you can try some multivitamins and see if you improve over time

also look at gut microbiome and how you eat

I did start to experience early peri issues around your age. A lot can be managed with better lifestyle approaches, particularly what and how we eat

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 07:31

Are they as accurate as real blood tests?

OP posts:
WarriorN · 20/12/2025 07:32

I hypothyroid though and I’d had gp tests for these things based on symptoms.

berrocca is also a good basic supplement for b vits

Some are some aren’t

WarriorN · 20/12/2025 07:34

There’s one that does thyroid, vit d, active b12, folate and ferritin.l

Octavia64 · 20/12/2025 07:35

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 07:31

Are they as accurate as real blood tests?

No.

gp tests are much better. Gp tests will give you the number for fsh, t3 and t4.

these will just tell you if you are out of range or not.

get a gp one if you can

Needanadultgapyear · 20/12/2025 07:38

Your symptoms could be low B12, coeliac, pernicious anaemia and a whole variety of autoimmune arthritises so really worth seeing the GP to get a variety of blood tests.

Begby6789 · 20/12/2025 07:39

Low iron?

pinktonyclub · 20/12/2025 07:47

I have an underactive thyroid. It’s a really simple blood test at the GP to check, so give them a call.

WarriorN · 20/12/2025 07:54

It’s also cheaper and if there is an issue the gp would have to repeat the blood test if you’ve had a private one

Much better to just go to gp

Itsjusttoomuchtoday · 20/12/2025 07:58

I would go to the GP with all your symptoms and being tired all the time. Make sure you have the NHS app so you can see your results yourself.
