Does this sound like a low thyroid?

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 07:18

My oral temp is around 36 to 36.4
My resting heart rate is around the low 60s.

I’m overweight and currently always feeling cold or unable to control my temperature. I get facial flushing too.

I have joint pain, fatigue and awful periods.

Just wondering if I need to get tested.

Is an oral temperature of 36/36.1 a concern? Seems quite low that’s all.

The highest it seems to get is 36.4 (since I’ve been taking it to check)

Just go to the doctor. They can do multiple blood tests and any other tests needed to cover all possibilities, rather than you and internet randoms playing guessing games.

No

people’s normal varies.

I would also check family history if you can, for reference, both my mum and I have an underactive thyroid and my daughter was diagnosed aged nine.
its so easy to get checked at GP and then rectify with levothyroxine. The condition also qualifies for prescription exemption charges.
what you describe is in line with symptoms but you won’t know without a blood test.

Low iron?

Definitely get.this checked. Being cold was a real symptom for me and having better levels really improved things for me.

Purlant · 20/12/2025 08:29

What’s your diet like?

caringcarer · 20/12/2025 08:31

My GP test refuse to test for T3.

WonderingWanda · 20/12/2025 08:31

I had similar symptoms and it was not my thyroid. In fact everything came back normal. However, I did spot that my ferratin level was really low....literally just in what my surgery deemed the normal range and bow the nice guidelines. I upped my iron and the Dr prescribed me transexamic acid for the heavy periods and lots of my symptoms have improved.

caringcarer · 20/12/2025 08:32

If your thyroid is low your skin, nails and hair will be very dry. You will feel exhausted a lot of the time even when you haven't really done much.

Gerbera55 · 20/12/2025 08:34

My underactive thyroid symptoms (and my levels were borderline, I wouldn’t have been medicated if I wasn’t under the fertility clinic):

  • tiredness
  • brain fog
  • hair loss
  • irregular periods and fertility issues
  • stubborn weight gain

If you get your bloods checked and they tell you you’re borderline and therefore don’t need medication, push back. The difference in how I felt after a week of levothyroxine was astounding - and I fell pregnant after 3 months of medication because my cycle became more regular.

I’m 4 months postpartum, had my levels checked and the doctor told me to stop taking my medication as it was looking like my thyroid was overactive. Now my underactive symptoms are back in full swing! I’m wondering if I have postpartum thyroiditis, I have bloods next week to investigate.

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 08:42

@WonderingWanda
I take iron everyday - I use ‘better you’ spray but maybe I need something stronger.

When mine is bad it’s always constipation I notice first

hair and nails can be supported by diet

when I have been hypo for a long time I noticed rhr is nearer 50 (even 45)

mine has been normalising and I’ve had to tell myself a higher hr is better as I feel better and stay upright all day!

I don’t often put on weight when I’m hypo. When I was first diagnosed I was borderline under weight (early 20s). Weight is often extra water retention. I do get cankels and a puffy face

Ragdoll77 · 20/12/2025 09:06

You need to get tests done by the Dr. Much better than guessing. I had very low B12 & low iron & felt very much like you describe. I'm now on regular B12 injections & strong iron supplements but it's taken months to feel vaguely human again. It could be a number of things causing your symptoms. Get tests done at the Drs, then Read the NICE guidelines.

youalright · 20/12/2025 09:14

Absolutely no way of knowing without a blood test i have hypothyroidism my main symptoms where weight gain, exhaustion and it got to the point i could barely form sentences as I just couldn't remember basic words this last one is usually how I can tell when my levels are of now

WarriorN · 20/12/2025 09:24

Oh yes. I can’t string a sentence together

Dontlletmedownbruce · 20/12/2025 09:39

It could be thyroid. I'm on medication but when mine starts to go off kilter I have gotten very different symptoms each time so it's frustrating. The most common ones for me are joint pain and fatigue. Do whatever is needed to get it checked. It can get worse. I was your age when I had mine diagnosed and my biggest regret is not doing it earlier. I thought constantly feeling tired and achy as just the way I was, I was miserable for much of my 20s and never made the connection, no one suggested this.

hallomynameisinigomontoya · 20/12/2025 11:11

Speak to your GP. Whether it's thyroid or something else it sounds like something is going on.

Cumbrianlassie · 20/12/2025 15:53

Thanks I’ll make an appointment in the new year.

Have you less body hair than you used to? A key sign for me is when I realised that I never have to shave my legs anymore. My arms have almost no hair on them at all. The GP agreed this was relevant for thyroid.

SheinIsShite · 23/12/2025 09:12

It could well be and it is very easily diagnosed by a blood test.

I had underactive thyroid diagnosed at the same age as you more or less. My symptoms were intense tiredness, always feeling freezing cold, dry and scaly skin all over but especially on my eyelids, eyebrows falling out, overweight, no energy.
