Husband had been sacked from work for making comments about customers to his work mates, such as she's really fit, she's got good boobs, she's in good shape, is attractive etc. I feel really betrayed by this but am I overreacting?

I suppose some idiot has complained. What is the matter with people these days - it's just banter! Your poor husband losing his job over this.

It’s not banter if the other person isn’t involved in it. He’s commenting on the appearance of women behind their backs.

Are you a woman? Don’t you want to live your life without men leering at you and judging you?

RendeersDancingTowardsChristmas · 19/12/2025 13:16

Your husband obviously didn't value his customers or his job. He's very unprofessional. Serves him right to loose his job.

Oh my goodness.

Reading some of the posts on this thread I'm beginng to think I'e woken up in a time warp and I'm back in the 20th century. You know: those days when misogynistic language and behaviour and objectification of women was just considered the norm.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this!

bridgetreilly · 19/12/2025 13:17

It’s not just banter. Whatever he has said is bad enough that he was sacked for it. Which means it’s bad enough for the OP to be hurt because her partner is a misogynist prick who thinks it’s his place to comment on the appearance of his customers, and an unfaithful git who is clearly thinking about other women in comparison to her. Not to mention, undermining their financial security in the process.

Agree totally
I own my own company banter is just part of working with people
When we interview people we say that there is a lot of office banter and if that is not their cup of tea this is not the place for them
I have heard guys say things about me that I weas not meant to hear - was I offended no
Did I care no
Do I and my friends comment abut good looking guys - yes

Our team has a lot of banter.
We also have very dark humour which many people would not like it.

But the banter is between colleagues and there is a limit.
We never banter with new staff and we follow their lead on what they’re comfortable with.

Doing it to people not part of the group (either behind other colleagues or customers backs) is bitchy and bullying.

Clearly the person who complained is not an 'idiot' because its resulted in the outcome they wanted, to have the creepy man sacked. So it was actually quite sensible of them to complain. The only 'idiot' in the scenario is the one who thought their idea of 'banter' is acceptable in the modern workplace. I don't know what the matter with some people these days is either. Its nearly 2026 yet they seem to be stuck in a 1970s carry on film.

Tinkerbellthefairy · 19/12/2025 14:18

You can’t say anything these days 🙄🙄🙄.

no of course I wouldn’t accept it. He deserves all he gets.

It's not bloody banter! It makes people feel uncomfortable and men need to pack it the fuck in!

Sorry OP. It's probably a massive kick in the guts.

This, at least a million times.

I agree - even if he threw her to the ground and had sex with her, she shouldn't complain, given it's Christmas.
