Just for fun.

What are some things that you have done in the past or do now that you know most MN’s would find you unreasonable for?

I’ll go first:

  • I’m so unbothered if you choose to have a child free wedding and my children aren’t invited. Even close family weddings. It’s your day I’m not going to kick up a fuss that you haven’t invited to my children. You’ve probably given me at least 6 months to a year notice, I’ll just arrange childcare. If I can’t - then I can’t come and you can’t be mad at me!
  • Chose to have 2 elective c sections for no medical need.
  • Given my children chocolate occasionally before the age of 2.
  • Son slept in a cot until almost 3!

Shared money with DH. Seems to be an MN no-no. What is the point in being in a team if you don't both benefit from teamwork?

This as @FragileIsAsFragileDoes says. I find it bizarre when people say things like "DH pays the mortgage and I pay for food shopping". Or likewise "DH isn't happy as I earn more than him".

Me and DH both love it when the other one gets a payrise as it benefits us both! It's our house, our bills, our food... I don't understand the thought process behind sharing lives but not finances.

I feel like joint finances are normal on MN? Maybe it just feels that way because we have separate finances and if it comes up on a thread, I'm always told that I have a room mate, not a DH or I'm clearly doing marriage wrong.

According to one woman on here, she just smothers the toilet in thick bleach and keeps flushing.
Others said they used disposable brushes.

I don’t have one. I use bleach under the rim, let it run down into the bowl, leave it to soak, then flush and wash the whole toilet inside and out with a cloth and a cleaning product. I wear a rubber glove which gets washed, and the cloth thrown away.

I discovered recently that DH has a secret toilet brush that he uses to clean the toilets when he does it. He didn’t tell me because he knows my views on them!

Bridesmaidorexfriend · 16/12/2025 17:26

I don’t have a toilet brush, apparently that makes me the unusual one lol. I do use bleach down there every time someone has a poo though and I know that’s bleach is a big mumsnet no no

EverythingElseIsTaken · 16/12/2025 17:29

I open my door if someone knocks on it. I don’t make people remove their shoes in my home. I have loo brushes. I have bins in my bathrooms.

Why not just scrub it with a brush?

Beezz · 16/12/2025 17:30

I don’t feel the need to get bent out of shape if someone on the internet has a different opinion to me.

OilyRoundTheCogs · 16/12/2025 16:51

Erm, why would people keep.their toothbrush in the kitchen?😳🤔

@NooNooHead

Because of all the disgusting imaginary poo crumbs that erupt like a volcano every time you flush the toilet and cling to your toothbrush (and clothes, and hair etc).

So basically you are spoiler, you aren't brushing your teeth with actual faeces

How about closing the loo seat and keeping your toothbrush in a bathroom cabinet? Or not worrying about it as there's lots of bacteria already in the human mouth?🤣🤔😳

Yes, millions of humans keep toothbrushes in bathrooms without getting ill!

Tomorrow I’m going for a spa session funded by a one-off carers payment organised for me by DS’s social worker. The payment must be spent on self care. I feel like a right rebel though, given the view on MN about anyone receiving carers allowance, PIP or UC and daring to spend it on anything other than the gas bill!

How has a social worker funded a one off carers payemt isn't that the DWP's job? Must be spent on self care says who?

The disposable clip on ones for me, I just find the idea of a brush sitting there covered in whatever you last cleaned out of the toilet really icky.

Ah here we go! 😄 My point has been made perfectly!

throwa · 16/12/2025 17:42

I have always left my children in the car when paying for fuel at a petrol station. Pay at pump has only just arrived in the last few years where I am, but there was no way I was lugging a car seat in one hand and tucking a feral toddler under the other arm, whilst I went over to pay. (caveat - neither of mine could undo their seat belts or escape from the car at this point).

My sole nod to safety was to leave the car unlocked, so that if something did happen they could be grabbed and removed quickly plus the car alarm would go off if you locked the car and left them in there and that was really embarrassing.

Right, so a social worker can give you money for a spa day? Not being goady, genuine question.

Why not just scrub it with a brush?

Because I prefer a different method that I find less messy and works just as well.

You’re not imagining it, it’s definitely far more common to pool finances and have ‘one pot’ on MN. I think because most women are on / have had / plan to have extended maternity leave of up to 1 year, or work part-time around the kids, and so benefit from pooling finances.

There is no benefit to a woman who earns equally or more than her husband of doing this, and is actually ill-advised where differing attitudes to money/spending are involved. Nothing chips away at a marriage more than arguments about money.

You bleach it after use.

Bleaching a toilet brush sounds like a palaver that wouldn’t work for me. If it works for you that’s great.

Bleach in the toilet, flush, scrub with a cloth, throw it away. Wash hands.

No miserable toilet brush sitting there in a puddle in a sad little holder. Plus I don’t have to mess about buying toilet brushes. I’m not saying you have to do it that way, so why are you telling me I’m wrong and I should use a brush?

A little acceptance that not everyone does things the same way would be lovely. Edit to add that I see you have - so Thank You.

Yes, there are ring fenced funds for carers that are intended to be spent on helping them sustain their caring role. So spa days, afternoon tea, theatre trips, getting a cleaner to do a deep clean, or pay a gardener are all fair game. It’s not meant to be spent on household costs.

RanyaJerodung · 16/12/2025 17:43

Yes I know that but it's still got yucky stuff on it, even if it's sat in bleach. No judgement at all to those who use them, I don't think about how other people clean their toilets, but I feel nauseous at the idea of having one in my bathroom.

Read my posts.
I never said that you were wrong.
I never criticised you.
I was curious about your method.
I have made it very clear that folks do things in different ways and that's perfectly fine.
