To think that antisemitism now needs to be tackled in the strongest possible way?

The Bondi thread in chat was eye opening.

Forty pages and a lot of it whataboutery, excuses and vile antisemitism.

It’s disgusting.

It needs to be called out. It needs to be rooted out.

I feel so sorry for the Jewish communities everywhere. How can they possibly feel safe?

well I have similar feelings about many of the posters on this thread so I’ll go now and enjoy my day.

You stated that you were leaving yesterday evening, I think. What kept you? You will enjoy your day more if you don't come back to this thread.

HappyFace2025 · 18/12/2025 09:38

If you really are Jewish* then I find your comments reprehensible.
*There have been posters on other threads who state that they are Jewish when they are not.

There is one in particular who I won't ever believe is Jewish. I've seen her on other threads but something never rings true about her.

Maybe the aim here is to derail the thread and ultimately have it deleted.

You seem to have no problem conflating Jews with Israel per se. Ireland has shown her feelings when she petulantly boycotted the Eurovision. Oh well at least that's one less set of boos the Israeli entrant will have to endure.

That was a broadcaster decision as opposed to the Irish government, but the decision was widely supported. Ireland isn’t taking part because of Israel’s involvement, not because of Jewish involvement (eg from any other country)? So I don’t understand your point.

Ireland’s televote last year awarded 10 points to Israel’s entry, if it matters.

You can deal with the actions people choose to take and you can police how countries conduct themselves with sanctions and wars. But you cant actually tell me what to care about. My values and opinions are mine, yours are yours.

I read that RTE are in such dire financial straits that they can't afford to take part in Eurovision. Not sure of which Irish paper I saw this in so can't post a link.

I don't mean to tar all Irish people with the same brush. There are many who aren't as vigorous in their attitude and many showing compassion.

It was in the Irish Independent.

Something doesn't add up here. Where did you get the notion that the decision was "widely supported"?

I’m Irish, living in Ireland. It was a bit of a solo run by RTE but I didn’t hear much pushback about it. The boycott is a peaceful way of making the point that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is unacceptable and that is a position most Irish people support.

Contrary to rumours that have been spread, Ireland is not a seething mass of anti-semitism. If it were it’s unlikely the public would have voted so highly for last year’s performer, isn’t it?

There is nothing that doesn’t add up. People outside Ireland have been misled by disinformation and misinformation about the country.

Well it may not be more antisemitic than anywhere else, but when my son and Dil (who is jewish) were based in Dublin for work I visited them and attended her synagogue for an event (even though I'm not Jewish myself). This was a year before Oct 7, and there was a very strong security presence on the door of the building. i couldn't believe it. It was also an innocuous looking building - more like a bungalow on a housing estate!

So its foolish to think it isn't a thing

I don’t think it’s not a thing!

It is the same as other places, and it is not good enough I absolutely agree with you.
It is horrific everywhere. Security should not be needed at a synagogue.

What I am objecting to is the singling out of Ireland for censure, which was started for political reasons.

It’s behind a pay wall.
I’m going by RTE’s statement at the time, as linked above.
Perhaps they were glad to abstain for financial reasons too. They seem to be chronically short of money and no doubt that has got worse since the Tubridy debacle.

All you’ve done here is repeat your unsubstantiated claim and demonstrate that you have no idea about statistical validity. Polling to estimate an unbiased subsample of a population requires actual expertise, not “well I haven’t seen anything” vibes.
