Worried About GP Call

GPCALL · 08/12/2025 22:41

I have pre cancer cells in the womb. I was fitted with an IUD two years ago and have gone for regular hydroscopies and all has been well.

Earlier this week, I had a show of blood. I was given an emergency appointment for a biopsy at the hospital which I went to.

Tonight the GP called at 7. I missed the call.

Why would they be calling at 7 at night if it is not to tell me that something is seriously wrong. AIBU to be so worried? I don't think I will sleep

7pm would be an early night for a GP! My GP friend regularly starts before 7am and finishes gone 9pm. They'll have been working through their calls - don't read anything at all into the time they called.

ThingsgetbetterwithalittlebitofRazzmatazz · 08/12/2025 22:47

The GP wouldn't be calling to say you have cancer, anything like that would come from the hospital and the GP wouldn't be aware until the hospital write with that information. Have you had blood tests? Might show you're anaemic or something and GP calling re this.

GPCALL · 08/12/2025 22:48

I made a mistake in my Op. I had the biospy a week ago today.

Thank you for replying to me @tinybeautiful but why would the GP and not the hospital call. I feel as if it is really bad news for me.

I haven't had any blood tests for a long while. So I don't think it would be that @ThingsgetbetterwithalittlebitofRazzmatazz .

The only thing i have had recently is this straw biopsy. But why would the GP call when I'm under the hospital.

Thank you

Have you looked on your nhs app to see if there's any new notes or letters on there?

GPCALL · 08/12/2025 22:56

I don't think I can get on nthat but I'll try again. That is a good idea. Thank you

I've tried again and it greets me by name but says there is a problem connecting to the surgery.

I can see there is a message- a number 1 in a red box but i can't get to it.
is the red box significant-does red mean urgent?

The routine blood tests that I went for were taken on the 22nd September and they said if I didn't hear anything in a couple of weeks it would be because there wasn't a problem.

I had them because I'm on blood pressure medication, which feels as it it zooming up tonight.

OP posts:
Redrosesposies · 08/12/2025 23:10

That message might just be a newsletter or flu vaccine invitation. Nothing to be alarmed about.

GPCALL · 08/12/2025 23:10

Thank you. I hope it is.

gucciandscandal · 08/12/2025 23:15

The Red 1 likely means 1 new message, not a scale of urgency. It could be as little as a call to a routine heath check ( my last one was). Did GP leave a vm? Mine always do?

GPCALL · 08/12/2025 23:30

No he didn't, @gucciandscandal which makes me think it isn't routine and he is going to give me bad news. It is a week since I had the biopsy and the consultant said I would get a telephone call but I thought that would be from the hospital.

In all the other hydroscopies and biopsies, I've had letter to say it's fine. Apart from the first one, when it was pre cancer cells and they phoned to tell me to come in.

Bayroot1 · 08/12/2025 23:34

I hope it's nothing worrying when you get to speak to the GP. I think they'd have tried again or rang back if it was urgent.

GPCALL · 08/12/2025 23:46

Thanks @Bayroot1

Hope you managed to get a bit of sleep @GPCALL and that you can get hold of your GP easily today and that it goes OK x

GPCALL · 09/12/2025 08:04

Thank you @orbital12 .

I didn't sleep very well and I'm just waiting until about 10-you can only call before that for an appointment.

Thank you for thinking of me.

It’s such a nervous time waiting, good luck x

Geranium879 · 09/12/2025 08:08

It’s horrible waiting. Try not to guess what he is going to say - I know it’s very hard, I’m off to get a breast lump checked today at the one stop clinic, so I sort of know how you feel… the now knowing is the worst. By the end of today hopefully we will both be feeling much better 💐

Lennonjingles · 09/12/2025 08:12

Check your NHS again, not for messages, but all other options. It’s normal for results of tests to go to GP and they then phone you with results.

orbital12 · 09/12/2025 08:14

Ach, that's a pain you have to wait until 10, even though there are people on the phones! You are nearly there though in relation to the whole long wait you've done. I hope the next couple of hours don't drag too much xx

GPCALL · 09/12/2025 08:18

Thank you everyone for taking notice of me and @Geranium879 I'm sending very best wishes to you.

I have more or less accepted that he is going to tell me bad news relating to the biopsy because there can't be anything else and he has never called before.

I suppose he will say the results are bad and the hospital will be in touch.

Musicaltheatremum · 09/12/2025 08:36

Hope you get on ok today op.
I used to call patients late because I was trying to get through so much work. If I finished my surgery at 5.30 I would still have loads of "paperwork"(it's online paperwork )to do. Leaving it to the next day just piled it up and let it get out of control.

GPCALL · 09/12/2025 08:37

I hope so @Musicaltheatremum and it is very kind of you to say so,
It's just that he hasn't any reason to call other than this.
Thank you for being kind

Bless you. Did you have any swabs taken at the same time?

if so, it could be something really mundane like strep b that they wouldn’t normally treat but may want to give a course of abx for in case you need any further investigations.

GPCALL · 09/12/2025 08:41

I don't think so but that is something for me to cling to. thank you, thank you
