To expect more than 0.5 pound weight loss?

Epicentre · 08/12/2025 07:47

On 25th October I weighed 11 stone 7 pounds.
I stayed that same weight for weeks. Wouldn't budge.
Then eventually a month later I went down to 11 stone 6 pounds.
Then magically last week I dropped to 11 stone 3 pounds.
Hooray! I thought. The looooong plateau has gone. I'd dropped 4 pounds.
Got back on scales today and I weigh 11stone 6.5 pounds.
So in 6 bloody weeks I've lost a grand total of 0.5 pounds.
This is on 15mg mounjaro and 1,200 cals a day.
I weigh myself once a week, no more.
I track my calories carefully.
No I'm not an idiot who vastly overeats more calories than I think I'm eating. (This seems to get trotted out a lot on MN).
I am SO SO SO pissed off.
0.5 pounds on 15mg MJ in SIX WEEKS!!!!!
Humph.😡

Are you using my fitness pal or another app to count your calories and weighing/measuring your food? So entering everything you eat?

Yes I'm using NutraCheck app and am tracking absolutely everything. Every item of food. Every drink. It's brilliant actually, I really like it as an app. I've got it set to higher protein/lower carb. It tells me to eat 1,400 cals a day for weight loss but I never go over 1,200 a day. Some days I only hit 1,000 a day because the appetite suppression on 15mg is high, but I always make sure I eat good quality nutritious food, I simply weigh and measure every single thing and enter it on the app.

5 ft 7 is tall-ish IMO. (For a woman.) I know quite a few women who are around that height who weigh roughly the same as you @Epicentre And they look fine/not overweight.

It could be that you don't need to lose much weight. If any... That's why you have only lost half a pound...

Why are you using weight loss injections though, when you're only 11 and a half stone? (And 5 ft 7, so not particularly overweight..)

.

Edited

I started at 15 and a half stone last year when I first started WLI.
I have titrated up from 2.5mg MJ through the increased dose steps, and am now on 15mg.
I still have more weight to lose as my current BMI is 25.2.

Do you only eat food that is ready made? As is suspect this is your issue if not, nutricheck can’t give cals for anything we make ourselves.

for your height and weight your tdee would likely be a min I’d 1900 a day, as such in 1200 you’d be losing 1.5lbs a week . Meaning in 6 weeks you’ve lost 9 lbs, to maintain at your current weight for 6 weeks you’d have to have gained 9 lbs of fluid. This is only feasible if you’re incredibly unwell and you would need to see a doctor urgently.

so it is really down to you’re actually eating close to 1900 a day, or you need to see a doctor.

Epicentre · 08/12/2025 16:43

InMyOodie · 08/12/2025 12:25

Try alternating 1,200 calorie days with 1,000 or 900 ones. On 15mg of MJ you should have good enough suppression for it.

I don't do this.
Every few days I eat 1,000 cals a day.
Other days 1,200.
Never more than that.

Sorry that should say I DO do this.
My annoying phone autotext changed it.

Oh yes you do!
You have to be a literal idiot to 'not realise exactly how many calories you're eating/drinking'.
Give me strength.

Ok, well that's very insulting to all the intelligent women on Mumsnet who haven't realised in the past.

But if that's how you feel 🤷‍♂️

Why can’t nutra check give calories for things you make yourself? I do this everyday, you simply enter the ingredients?!

I’m not sure we always get an impartial view of people when it comes to diet. Lots of people have all sorts of emotional and unhealthy habits tied to in food, especially the people who chose it diet.

yes of course, it’s easy to imagine that you might pick up a cappuccino and forget to add it to your calorie tracker. People forgetting that every single day is a bit odd and unlikely for people of average intelligence who are dedicated to weight loss, yes

Well I can't imagine them coming here for advice after they've read this thread 🤣🤣

There has to be something else going on. It might be worth asking your GP to test your thyroid function.

"Do you only eat food that is ready made? As is suspect this is your issue if not, nutricheck can’t give cals for anything we make ourselves."
This simply isn't true.
Nutracheck has a brilliant recipe builder function whereby you enter the measurements of each ingredient and it calculates the calories you eat based on how many grams of the dish you weigh yourself to eat. So if I weigh a portion of my home made recipe at 200g for example, it tells me how many calories are in 200g.
To say you can only use Nutracheck for ready made food is absolute nonsense.
I don't eat ready made food, on any level. My diet is home cooked food based on wholegrains, vegetables, low GI fruits, protein and complex carbs. With a higher ratio of protein to carb as that is what I have set the app to follow.

OP posts:
iSage · 08/12/2025 19:00

Strict no carbs for a couple of weeks is a good way to get over a plateau. I mean, no carbs, not low carbs. Not sustainable for long but could be a short term fix.

InMyOodie · 08/12/2025 22:13

Some people seem to have a slavish belief in the validity of online TDEE calculators. There are plenty of us whose actual TDEE is substantially lower than indicated by the calculators. Yes, we do know how to count calories. No, we don't do 'cheat' days.

It can be maddening when you're not losing weight on 1,000 calories a day and people say it's physically impossible not to. For them, perhaps. Let's not even talk about those who tell us to eat slightly more. I tried that for a month and gained another half a stone.

I have been taking MJ since June 2024.
I weighed 15 stone 7 pounds at that point, when I started.
I now weigh 11 stone 6.5 pounds, as stated in my OP.
My current BMI is 25.2
(I am 5ft 7)

Would have helped if you had opened with this.

Clearly your weight is fine now, and that's why you're not losing any more.

MJ doesn’t just stop though does it? OP has done amazingly but shes nowhere near underweight. Why would it take it upon itself to stop working on someone who is 11stone?

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 08/12/2025 22:24

I've been on 12.5 for 3 months and lost zero...
BUT i'm not gaining....

Try and cling to the positives...
I know its hard when people are losi g a stone a month with apparently minimal effort.
have a look and see if you can tightened up your diet a bit

Hilbil212001 · 08/12/2025 22:26

I used to lose easily on 1200. I now only lose on 900-1000. I’m 45

Flingotheflamingo · 08/12/2025 22:27

@Achangeintoneoh you’re not wrong. I live with constant, low level hunger and don’t get me wrong, I do sometimes dip a malted milk into a cup of tea but anything over 800kcal has me retaining water and 1200kcal would tip me over the edge.

It’s no way to live but my body copes and I function well. Skin is good, hair is long.. 🤷🏽‍♀️

She said she was on WLI in the first post… and it doesn’t just stop working when your bmi is under 25. You carry on losing if still in a deficit…

WLI work by mimicking the hormone signals that indicate fullness and causes slower digestion. This means the body thinks it’s fuller for longer and faster. It doesn’t melt the fat off you…

MeridaBrave · 08/12/2025 22:31

I’d weigh daily to see the pattern. I might also either cur to 1,100 or increase steps / exercise.

I would also look at the quality of the calories and aim for
120g protein a day minimum
120g carbs a day max - mostly veg and some fruit
loads of crucficerous veggies
avoid omega 6 / processed food

wineosaurusrex · 08/12/2025 22:50

I'm shouting this from the rooftops recently... Try the keto diet!!! I lost 25kg in 4 month and felt energetic, healthy and amazing the whole time. My skin has improved drastically and ive had people asking me if ive had work done.

I shouldn't need to follow a keto diet on top of taking 15mg MJ though.

My BMI is 25.2
It isn't under 25
And you're right, it should still be working. Particularly at 15mg.
