Should stocking gifts be wrapped?

DH’s were wrapped, mine were not as a child. Not fussed either way, just intrigued to see what is the norm! Now got a 1 year old so need to decide…..

YABU - wrapped
YANBU- unwrapped

Absolutely the fuck not.

they’re in a stocking - that’s the wrapping like if they were in a gift bag

talk about making life hard for yourself

We wrap the four or five nicest things in each stocking, then the rest goes in unwrapped.

AlwaysRightISwear · 08/12/2025 20:06

No, the stocking is the wrapping.

AhBiscuits · 08/12/2025 20:07

Definitely wrapped. I've always quite enjoyed wrapping presents and don't find it a chore.

Therandomtrekker1 · 08/12/2025 20:07

I learnt to wrap them in tissue paper, each person gets a different colour so less confusion if they tip them out together, easy to open for small hands and don’t always need tape.

Unwrapped but then I don't think I understand how lots of people on MN do stockings. My kids stockings have some Haribo, some chocolate coins and candy canes and some daft bits like scented pens and fluffy pencils etc. What at some people describe as stocking fillers on here are main presents in our house.

Mandylovescandy · 08/12/2025 20:10

We do main presents from us and stockings are little things (some stuff that has now become a tradition to have every year). I come from a stocking wrapping household and DP from not wrapped and we have gone with his approach and it works well because it is all little stuff that would be a pain to wrap and also because we are really strict on one person at time to pull something out of the stocking so it still takes time to do. Saves the stress now they are older of having to source different paper so they don't question why Santa used the same design as mummy and daddy

FunMustard · 10/12/2025 00:17

Yeah came here to add that for us, Santa brings the little things, and the big, expensive items are from mum and dad (and maybe other rellies too). Partly this is just because this is the way we did it when I was a kid, but partly also because I wanted to avoid questions of why Santa brought more/less for XYZ.

So they have plenty to unwrap, and a sack full of little bits not wrapped. Also they're far too old to believe in Santa lol but I'll do sacks until they're much older!

I got some small velvet bags and I put things in those. Things like chocolate coins, sweets, Lego mini figures etc go in the bags. Anything too big for the bags goes in loose, but buried deeper in the stocking.

No way am I wrapping any more than is necessary. I don’t know how anyone has the time/will.
