To think Jeremy Bamber might be innocent

Or that at the very least his conviction wasn’t safe and there needs to be a retrial? Ihe was convicted in 1985 of murdering his adoptive parents, sister and her twin sons at his parents’ farmhouse. It was at first deemed to be murder-suicide by the sister, Sheila Caffell, who was a diagnosed schizophrenic. Bamber had been on full life tarriff ever since and still protesting his innocence. I always assumed he was guilty until I listened to a podcast called Blood Family. There was a lot of evidence the jury didn’t hear, it seems the police mucked up the crime scene, his cousins had a financial motive for framing him and a police officer in the control room apparently took a 999 nonspeaking call from the farmhouse while Bamber was outside with the police, which would indicate someone was still alive at that point.

My point was that at Lucy letbys trial the defence brought stuff up after the trial but didn’t challenge at trial because they couldn’t because it didn’t stand up

then afterwards they use that information to stir up the public about innocence

In the Bamber case the defence coudn’t present a lot of this evidence at trial because in those days the police and prosecution were not required to disclose all of the evidence to the defence. And there are strong indications that Essex Police tried to keep some of it buried, even quite recently.

But surely a good defence would independently seek that evidence for their own case - you know “building a defence case”

Anyhow the phone call clinches it for me - couldnt have been Sheila without breaking or chipping a finger nail so it’s him by his own admission

WigglywagglyWanda · 06/01/2026 22:32

Can I ask a daft question, yes it might be daft!

This supposed call at 6am when Jeremy was outside. How does it completely clear him? Could that call not have been from someone mortally wounded and dying? Are we supposed to belive it was Sheila? After shooting everyone?

Yes assume it was from someone still alive

Oh god I never trust the guardian

it’s all just clutching at straws - and if it’s that American women…there’s a cultural gap in understanding

Yes but Jeremy could have still shot them all earlier?

Looking again on the true crime sites, my goodness his fanclub is rabid!

Yes - I just think someone was still breathing - happens all the time

I’ve just listened to the podcast and nothing in it made me think it wasn’t him , my judgement may be clouded though as he sounds thoroughly unlikeable .

At that point he’d been with the police for two hours. I suppose it could have been from one of the family who’d been shot although they would likely have been dead by then (if they were shot around 3am). As far as I know there’s nothing official recorded about what time they were shot.

I believe the pathology found that, although everyone bar Sheila had multiple non-fatal wounds, each also had wounds that would have been immediately fatal, therefore JB could not have been the shooter as he was outside. I don’t think there’s been any explanation from his side on who could have made that 6.09 call. It’s possible I think that it could have been Sheila, but also perhaps Neville.

Jeremy passed lie detector tests.

The information for his scorned ex girlfriend helped massively to get the guilty verdict - even though she initially said he had got someone else to murder his family (which was proved false as the person she named had lots of witnesses to say he was elsewhere at the time). Then she said actually Jeremy did it himself. Then of course there is the controversy of whether she was paid by the media before or after she gave the evidence - as she sold her story for thousands.

Jeremys cousins stood to inherit everything if Jeremy went down for the murders. If he had not have been found guilty, Jeremy would have inherited everything and as he didnt get on with his cousins he would have thrown them of the house and land they rented from his father. They would have had nothing. They were not wealthy. It’s quite convenient that they managed to find the silencer after the police had searched the house.

Nicki101 · 19/02/2026 12:15

Also, they know the neighbour who lived opposite Jeremy confirmed his car did not move around the time of the murders. So the police said Jeremy must have used his mother’s bike to travel the 3 miles across ploughed fields in the dark.

Sadly, Sheila was a paranoid schizophrenic who had called her children the spawn of satan before.

Jeremy was evaluated by mental health professionals who stated he did not have a personality disorder or such conditions.

There are so many inconsistencies in the case and so much unreliable evidence. There is no way Jeremy would be found guilty today. Not to mention how unprofessional Essex police were in moving things at the crime scene. There are pictures proving this. Two of the officers said there were two bodies downstairs in the kitchen when they entered!

Only Jeremy knows the truth…. Just imagine if he is innocent? He has been in prison over 40 years…..

There are always exceptions and Jeremy would have staged Shiela’s death more as he wanted to frame her

Fridgemanageress · 01/03/2026 22:33

I remember the case well. My Aunt and Uncle were horrified he drove the tractor round the field wearing makeup.

ive never being sure about this one, like I’m unsure of the nurse recently. Too many other people benefit cos they’ve taken the punishment
