To ask if this is the most perfectly cooked fried egg you've ever seen?

No snotty gloopy stuff on the top, but still beautifully runny inside. A little bit of crunch on one side but not enough to feel like you're eating overcooked bacon 😋

The yolk should be bright yellow. Yours is white on top. 6/10.

ohyesido · 07/12/2025 07:13

@SabreIsMyFavei can’t believe no one’s heard of egg ick.

it’s like eating an egg and suddenly feeling grossed out simply by the fact that it’s…an egg

Simonjt · 07/12/2025 07:22

No, the yolk is very pale (we cook the membrane too and a good egg will still have a very visibly red yolk) and the spread of the white shows it isn’t a fresh egg.

TerrysCIockworkOrange · 07/12/2025 08:38

My ideal egg OP!

I am in the market for a new fried egg pan, what do you fellow fried egg aficionados use?

1099 · 07/12/2025 08:41

Won't get you into Dan Walkers egg club.

Sesma · 07/12/2025 08:47

I use a single egg pan for my daily egg, it generally comes out perfectly round and has been one of my better buys. I also buy the double yolk eggs from Waitrose if they are in stock, nowhere else seems to sell them

For a single egg, I can recommend Greenpan single egg pan or if they are expensive, I bought mine on offer the Tefal single egg pan is good for about £10. I have both.

AhBiscuits · 07/12/2025 08:53

Looks good to me. I cant believe people like them crispy, yuck!
Mine look similar. I fry them on a medium heat until the white is nearly solid, add a dash of water then put a lid on for a short while so the steam cooks the membrane. I will be making one for breakfast as soon as DH is back from his run.

Boutonnière · 07/12/2025 09:05

I’ve perfected my poached eggs but my fried have always been a bit hit or miss. I would gladly welcome your egg to my plate, OP, but the very crispy previous examples would go in the bin AKA my DH. I can’t believe that I’ve never heard of putting a lid on top and/or adding a little water to create a brief steam or worked it out for myself. It makes perfect sense.

Thank you, MN - a genuine tip !

MsWilmottsGhost · 07/12/2025 09:07

Depends on the use of the egg @EmbroideredGardener

On a plate with chips for dipping - perfect.

In a sarnie - dangerously runny, probable spurtage.

ohyesido · 06/12/2025 21:17

They sit heavy on the tummy and lead to egg ick. I thought it was a common thing but I guess not

Why would eggs 'sit heavy on the tummy'? Sounds like an old wives' tale to me! Never heard of egg ick.

Shedeboodinia · 06/12/2025 21:15

No sorry, as since I got a single egg pan. I can cook fried eggs in a perfect circle and move the yoke so it is perfectly central. I also like to flip them. And I can get it runny inside but cooked fully on both sides. Single egg pan is a game changer.

But then you can only have one egg... or one goes cold while you cook the other one. This way madness lies!

I made this one (except you can’t actually eat it lol) It’s made of polymer clay

Edited

This is actually amazing, I wouldn't have guessed it wasn't real!

I don't like egg white. My sister doesn't like the yolk. We share our fried eggs eggs on the rare occasions we have our breakfast out. 😊

I can eat all of the egg but only when it's ever so lightly scrambled. If I see any white in there, someone else can eat it.

Now this is the pinnacle of a sustainable breakfast - instead of reduce, reuse, recycle, you have an egg swap shop. Perfect!

I like them a little runnier / yellow looking than this one, but it does look very neat, and I can entirely appreciate the satisfaction that comes from your eggs turning out just exactly right. It’s such a joy! And so so annoying when they get overcooked or go wrong.

Eggifaction! Actually that sounds a bit too like impaction for my liking 😳💩

I think a slightly fresher egg cooked faster and flipped to set the top is better than steamed myself though I sometimes do them like OP. They don’t look as pretty with that dead man’s eyeball skin over the yolk.

Ohh now, eyeball skin... yeuk! I'm not sure it's enough to put me off my perfect eggs though!

There's a club?! I'm not sure I want to be in it if he won't appreciate my eggs anyway....

No, it looks a horrible colour. Take the bloody lid off the pan

For a sarnie I preburst the yolks to avoid embarrassing moments such as these. Still liable for a little drippiness if you dont clamp the crusts together tightly enough, but I feel it is worth the risk. I had these on top of a microwaved jacket potato

Mmmm makes me miss Grandad and his perfect fried eggs. Do share your technique!

Delia Smith used the same technique I was taught by parents and grandparents.

Plenty of oil, flip the oil with the spatula/fish slice over the top of the egg to cook the white on top of the yolk.

It probably is yellow underneath, once it’s been pierced by a chip or soldier 😁
