To just stop going to my nail salon without telling them?

I have been going to the same nail salon for about four months now. Before this, I had been with my previous lady for 5 years.

I really don’t like this new salon, but it’s the only one in my area. The builder gel is never even and the colour selection is crap. AIBU to just cancel my appointment that I have standing, and just stop going? I’m going to do them myself now because it’s going to work out being cheaper

You owe them no loyalty if they’re rubbish. Cancel and find someone else. I wouldn’t pay to have badly done nails.

HermioneWeasley · 02/12/2025 15:55

You are over thinking this. You don’t have to give an explanation, especially after only 4 months

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 02/12/2025 15:56

Huh, you're meant to tell salons if you stop going?
How self important are you!
I doubt they'll care.

ConnieHeart · 02/12/2025 16:03

They won't think twice about it & are used to it. All salons are. I had a wonderful hairdresser for about a year but one time she couldn't fit me in for about a month so I found someone else who is cheaper & quicker. I felt a bit guilty as I really liked her & would walk quickly past her salon so she wouldn't see me! I used to also get my nails done by a lovely lady but I've also started doing them myself as it's so much cheaper.

Honestly, these places are used to people moving on for whatever reason

I always thought you were, I always have in the past! Just as a matter of courtesy

Is it a cash only tax dodge type of place? They have bigger fish to fry, don’t worry about it.

fucit · 02/12/2025 16:07

just don’t go anymore

i can’t imagine anyone batting an eyelid

Kizmet1 · 02/12/2025 16:13

That's a kind thought, OP. But I don't think you need to tell them or explain yourself.

fishfingerbutty · 02/12/2025 16:16

They really won’t notice or care.

FreezingDarkDecember · 02/12/2025 16:17

If you want to think of it this way, your loyalty was to the previous lady, not to the salon.

Salons dont care you either turn up or you dont.

Crushed23 · 02/12/2025 16:21

How could you possibly be unreasonable in doing this? You are simply stopping purchasing a service that doesn’t meet your standards. Don’t give it another moment’s thought.

It's a bit harsh to call OP self important, she is obviously just trying to be courteous! Having said that, I don't think there is any need to let them know.

ApplePie16 · 02/12/2025 16:25

For reference it’s a 3 person salon, not one of those where you turn up as and when and they take you in

Bumcake · 02/12/2025 16:32

Yes, just stop going.

Boomer55 · 02/12/2025 16:34

Most salons are so busy they probably won’t even remember who you are. Just go elsewhere.

Isittimeformynapyet · 02/12/2025 16:35

I'm confident in telling you that it is not a rule that you have to let the salon know you won't be returning.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/12/2025 16:37

I stopped using my nail person because she used to bitch about a friend of mine. I just stopped texting her. It didn’t occur to me to announce it - you are blowing this out of proportion

Blogswife · 02/12/2025 16:38

No you don’t need to explain why. Obviously don’t cancel last minute , it’s only fair to give them enough notice but you don’t owe them anything . I do my own using dip powder and it saves a fortune .

IcyPuddles · 02/12/2025 16:38

No, you need to resign in writing, with a full explanation and then seek their written consent.

Bowling4soup · 02/12/2025 16:38

Yeah this is bonkers 😂 just cancel and make an excuse to call back another time and never do

MummytoE · 02/12/2025 16:40

Take out a double page ad in the newspaper informing everyone that you will no longer be attending the salon.

Yeah I had three weeks before the appointment that I’ve cancelled. I’ve just always been raised to explain this sort of thing

Are you actually serious?! Who's ever done this?! This is mental.

How have you announced to salons in the past that you'll no longer be gracing them with your presence?

I don't understand how its courteous to let a salon know they're doing a shit job so you won't be back 😂
