To think I am being stalked by benefit fraud people?

No. I don’t take any recreational drugs, I’m not schizophrenic, I don’t hear voices and I am not being paranoid. Just thought I’d clear that up.

For the last few weeks down my road there’s been a few different cars turn up every morning and stays until later afternoon. The driver almost always stays in the car.

i am a genuine benefits receiver and I need assistance to move, so they won’t catch me wandering the streets, or popping out shopping/gym, unless I have available help, which is possibly once a month. Yes, for a whole month I am stuck inside. They would have seen my meds turn up in a boots pharmacy van, my shopping delivered which is usually time when my neighbours are home to help me. I live alone, I have no support, I don’t know what they are trying to catch? Their car is very unassuming but I live on a street with mine and my neighbours are attached and no more houses for half a mile.

Theyre not stalking my neighbours because they’re not on benefits, so I am guessing it can only mean it’s for me. I don’t have any criminal background, I basically sit in my house for weeks on end, do you think someone is trying to get me into trouble for no reason?

@ContinuewithGoogle It did actually. It was a farcical part of a pretty hellish 18 months that culminated in me winning an employment tribunal for disability discrimination. I don’t make things like that up for shits and giggles.

Vaxtable · 27/11/2025 17:39

If you are worried call the police and tell them and ask if they can come and move them on

Christmascarrotjumper · 27/11/2025 17:39

HildegardP · 27/11/2025 17:29

Sure, Jan.

I'm not really sure what there is to doubt. We all know police aren't routinely patrolling residential streets or investigating every report of a person sitting in their car. But whatever.

Why dont you call the police and report it. Maybe they can find out what is going on. Just in case its something dodgy. Although i have to say if its somebody up to no good they dont sound very good at it if everyone can see them.

Bitzee · 27/11/2025 17:43

When my friend was getting hassled by her abusive ex there was some sort of order that meant he couldn’t go near her house but he knew her route to work so would sit in the car along that route to intimidate her but apparently wasn’t breaking any rules as he was far enough away from her house and could claim he was going to the nearby village shop. For all you know it could be something like that. It is odd but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s anything to do with you.

SchrodingersKoala · 27/11/2025 17:49

Can you call the none emergency police number, I know friends have done this, they live in a fairly remote area just a few houses and they had someone sat outside stalking their properties. If someone was stalking my house I'd think people were watching to rob me, then again I'm not claiming anything or up to no good!

Parsleyforme · 27/11/2025 17:49

Has a neighbour not knocked on their window and asked what they’re doing? Not sure if I just live in a nosey or busybody type place but there are a few people on my road who would definitely ask, perhaps under the guise of asking if they’re lost etc.

ApplebyArrows · 27/11/2025 17:50

If this was happening on my road I'd be tempted to get a picnic chair and sit watching them on the pavement. See how they like it! But maybe not in November.

MyDeftDuck · 27/11/2025 17:50

In you position I would speak to the police on 101. They can at least speak to whoever is in the car and ascertain that their business is genuine, or move t(em on as being a suspicious entity.

Secretnamechange123 · 27/11/2025 16:42

i live on a very rural country road, the only vehicles I would normally see is a tractor or someone on a horse. On our mile stretch of road there’s 4 houses, mine and my neighbours and the other 2 half a mile away which they wouldn’t be able to see from where they’re situated as it’s round a corner. I am not being paranoid because the neighbour mentioned it before I had seen it (as I don’t leave the house I had no idea and as I can’t stand for long periods I don’t glare out of the window). And the person who said read a book, I do, frequently.

As i said before, maybe call the police. It is a bit odd. I think youd be within your rights to.mention it as it is a bit disturbing. Or maybe its someone talking into a phone having an affair or something who wants to be in the middle of nowhere to feel safe from prying eyes.

It's not necessarily about you it could be anything really. You don't know if your neighbours have put in insurance claims or are suspected of drug dealing or cheating etc

or whether it is someone who works a travelling job and likes the quietness of your road to make calls, write notes or eat lunch.

I have had a spate of them recently - I live very rurally and there were a spate of cars parked on the lane behind my house. Turns out there is a new road scheme under consideration so there were

  • county surveyor to inspect land boundaries
  • electricity cable inspector - there is a junction box on the lane and the cables but be moved
  • sewage inspector - do the drains need moving
  • mains water inspector - ditto
  • archaeologists - apparently there was a medieval battle on the fields behind the house
  • then there were the really suspicious ones taking photos of my house who turned out to be the ancient tree inspectors who have declared the six rotten trees on the border of my house and the lane to be protected so the new road cannot come within 37 metres of my house.
justasking111 · 27/11/2025 17:51

If it's near a busy route dual carriageway. We had unmarked police car that would park up ready to move quickly if a suspect county lines vehicle was coming through from Liverpool.

that totally happened 😂

And then everyone applauded 🤣

BankfieldForever · 27/11/2025 17:02

Right, just seen your second post. Your location sounds so similar to mine I’m wondering if you’re my neighbour!

From my own experience of ‘people sitting in cars for ages on a country road’ its either someone surveying for speed traps, groundworks or electrical work…

Or its drugs.

It is most certainly nothing to do with you.

I agree with this. Someone was sitting in their car a few winters ago at the end of my rural road. I eventually knocked on the window because it was -7 and he had been in there all day, and I was concerned about him. Genuinely. It turned out he was babysitting the generator (that I hadn't even taken much notice of) that had been left on the verge. I can't remember the exact reason it was there but he was obviously paid by the company to sit it out so it didn't get stolen.

PInkyStarfish · 27/11/2025 17:58

Think of the fun you could have with this!

Order a load of hats and wigs and use accessories such as different glasses and scarves and every so often make sure you look out of the window and he sees you and thinks there must be half a dozen people in the house!

Or a funny mask such as E.T and sit there staring at him!

To think I am being stalked by benefit fraud people?
FunMustard · 27/11/2025 18:00

Maybe I'm just spectacularly unobservant but I genuinely can't imagine noticing cars in my street?

I think you probably would if you lived on a rural road with just a few houses on as the OP does.

JustSawJohnny · 27/11/2025 18:03

Last time we had one of these cars locally it turned out to be Police watching a newly released repeat offender who was a paedo. Apparently they tend to release these scumbags to villages (lucky us) as they are easier watched in sparsely populated areas with no public transport.

He was caught on the village primary school grounds with a camera within a week so it didn't go on for long.

You sure it's about you?

Waterbaby41 · 27/11/2025 18:06

So what? If they are benefit fraud investigators, they are doing their job. All tax payers should support that. If you are not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't either but what I really want to know is how much benefit can you be claiming to justify the cost of a several-week long full time fraud surveillance 😂

AngelicKaty · 27/11/2025 18:17

Pricelessadvice · 27/11/2025 16:09

If you’re not doing anything wrong, I wouldn’t worry.
They won’t find their evidence of foul play and they’ll leave you alone.

@Secretnamechange123 Exactly this OP.👆 You have zero evidence that they're DWP fraud investigators, but even if they are, they won't find any evidence of fraud if you're housebound for the overwhelming majority of the time and your claim is genuine, so why are you even worried?

CandyCaneKisses · 27/11/2025 18:19

Staying home for too long is having an adverse effect on your mental health.

Dollymylove · 27/11/2025 18:20

They have been known to knock on doors at 8am on Saturday morning to see if theres a bloke in the house

hattie43 · 27/11/2025 18:22

It could be anyone . I think it’s just your circumstances making you assume it’s benefit people .

Jollyhockeystickss · 27/11/2025 18:25

Because someone grassed you up, i would knock on their window and say what do you want to know that will shut them up, take them cups of tea daily
