Was I in the wrong to push in the queue ?

crisikrinkles · 26/11/2025 10:00

Went into the post office in our town.
It’s always packed and they had two serving.
I needed currency and places never normally have it without ordering.
I needed it that day as we were travelling at night (last minute I know )
There was probably 20 people in front of me.
I didn’t want to wait in the queue incase I stood there and they didn’t have it anyway.
So I went to a counter and just said “before I queue can I just check you have this currency “
A woman barked “there’s a queue !”
I explained I wasn’t pushing in,I was just checking they had something before I got to the back of the queue.
She shouted “ no you wait to ask questions “

was i in the wrong ?

YABU Your question took time to investigate and answer.

In asking this question other people waited longer to be served whilst you happily ensured that the minimum amount of your time was used.

what a pathetic view

crisikrinkles · 27/11/2025 09:51

It didn’t take “time to investigate “ it was a one second reply.
Do you stock this currency ….yes
I waited till she had served the last customer
As soon as she said yes I joined the back of the queue and waited my turn.

You didn't wait until the last customer was served, you waited until the current customer was served, pushing in before everyone else who isn't less important than you.
I'm not sure what is breeding this increasing level of entitlement in people nowadays.

Ok, great, but you didn’t know that when you asked. And what if every person in the queue had a question, even if it’s a quick one?

Funnywonder · 27/11/2025 12:16

So many people outraged by the OP asking a quick question. All griping about manners. Well, my good manners stretch to being ok with the idea of someone asking a quick question to save them possibly joining a very long queue for nothing. I reckon the vast majority of those in the queue knew what the outcome of their visit would be. The idea that everyone, or even just several people, might be there to ask a question which could have meant they didn’t need to queue, is laughable.

On a separate note, I only had one person in front of me in the post office last week. But she had a shopping trolley full of parcels to post. Maybe Vinted or eBay. There must have been between twenty and thirty of the bastards. I was extremely grateful when someone opened the other window for me😅

Blades2 · 27/11/2025 12:18

Why bother asking AIBU to then just defend every single reply that tells you, yes you were rude. Next time don’t leave your currency swap until the last minute.

I'm talking about my own personal experience here so your comment is null and void, about criticising, bore off🙄

Typical "entitled" rudeness.

Typical "entitled" rudeness.

Your incapability to have any level of comprehension is embarrassing. You should stay off the internet if you're so easily upset, I can show you what rudeness looks like

No she wasn't rude at all.

Well there’s a good lot that think she was.

Because many people including me agree with Op. why does only your view count?

Or a bad lot.

Sexentric · 27/11/2025 13:28

I would have no issue with my transaction being delayed by 20 seconds to avoid someone else having to queue for 15 minutes, potentially for no reason. The ones who would take issue with that are the selfish arseholes.

I don’t have a view either way on this. What I did ask was why ask and then defend every answer she got saying she was rude.

Lol, what? Why do you think she is 'defending every answer'? There are 215 posts, OP hasn't replied 200 times, she has only replied 2 times!

Ok, great, but you didn’t know that when you asked. And what if every person in the queue had a question, even if it’s a quick one?

You can be absolutely certain that everyone in the queue at the post office has at the very least some stamps to purchase, parcels to send, driving licence applications to file, currency to purchase etc... that's why the queues always take so long. And yes, she did know that it would be a matter of a few seconds, because they know what currency they do and don't have.

HevenlyMeS · 27/11/2025 16:04

Yes you did nothing wrong
Please don't worry, some just love to guilt trip someone for an excuse to commence a disagreement & wind up good souls like your lovely self
If you weren't a compassionate considerate soul, you wouldn't have been wondering
God Bless You&Yours 💚🫂💚

Mandemikc · 27/11/2025 17:53

In a word, yes. You took up the tellers time where they possibly had to go look to see if your desired currency was available. Those in line now had to wait longer until your request was met. For you it was small, but for everyone in the line, your action, your not following the rules, was dismissive to their obedience of the rules.

Laurmolonlabe · 27/11/2025 17:56

I can see this from both ways- your being in such a rush and doing things at the last minute is your problem , not the problem of the other people waiting.
On the other hand I would probably have let you ask, but if the teller then had to look to see what currency they had- this all takes time , they probably wouldn't know off hand, so I can understand others in the queue thinking you should wait.

I never ever push in and I always wait my turn. However, I don’t think you were in the wrong here. Most people would not have had a quick question (especially in a post office). If you are able to ask concisely with self- awareness of your pushing in, I actually think that’s ok.

Theslummymummy · 27/11/2025 17:58

Yes, you interrupted someone who had queued to ask your question. I've queued up before, not knowing whether they would be able to do it.

Panda69 · 27/11/2025 18:00

If I was in the queue I would have totally understood and accepted your reason for quickly asking if they had it,before joining end of queue

Jorge14 · 27/11/2025 18:01

I think considering how many people in front of you what you did was fine.

Lyraloo · 27/11/2025 18:03

TangoWhiskeyAlphaTango1 · 26/11/2025 10:12

If I was at the front I would not have minded you asking this question. Some folk have little kindness these days. It’s all about me me me!

How were the people in the queue supposed to know that she was only asking a question? Someone coming in and simply walking to the front to speak to the cashier, smacks of entitlement and rudeness. I’d have simply told the queue I was just going to ask if they had what I wanted to save me queuing, easy and not rude!

opencecilgee · 27/11/2025 18:05

I would have done the same.

Chinsupmeloves · 27/11/2025 18:12

No, I don't think it was an issue and I'm very much for politeness! Xx
