If a wealth tax brought in zero revenue to the government, would people still support it? If yes, why?

I’m curious and I’d love to know people’s reasoning.

Are you honestly claiming it not to be true, maybe you weren't on the thread but it is true of the OP.

So wait. Not only are you personally attacking me you are making false accusations by quoting me and now you’re backtracking because it’s not true. Now I wasn’t even on whatever thread you’re talking about.

Wow.

Wow.

How am I personally attacking you? I'm definitely not backtracking, I don't backtrack. It is just tedious reading these toxic and pathetic wind up threads.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/11/2025 19:46

EasternStandard · 23/11/2025 19:13

So why do you think you’re in any position to judge the op?

Because we stayed in the UK and paid higher rate tax, when we had many options. We chose to.

poetryandwine · 23/11/2025 19:47

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/11/2025 18:56

Sadly not because Brexit has made that option far more difficult.

Most young people who are able to leave are not deliberate tax dodgers.

Many YP the world over travel for a few years before returning to their home countries to settle. DH is British and the majority of YP on his side have done this. All are back in the UK and all but one were net contributors by age 30.

Good for them. We should all support our countries.

Have you read your posts? Try reading them back again. Maybe tomorrow. If you think op is a troll report it. Try and refrain from mixing posters up, abusing them and accusing them of stuff from other threads they’ve not done or even authored or been on. People can have a different opinion to you and that’s valid. It does not make them a troll.

You have backtracked. You accused me and I quote stating you are going to do something to put the cat amongst the pigeons is not that bright if you then go on to claim you're insulted and hurt by your fabricated cat amongst the pigeons shitty wind up threads!

Then said oh maybe that wasn’t you when I asked for proof.

I feel there is a moral obligation to highlight such toxicity as people reading these pure works of fiction may believe it's the truth.

So why lament they can’t go now, you seem to be conflicted.

Can you clarify. What’s fiction now?

I wouldn't want to comment, people can judge for themselves.

Should the immigrants go home? Most of them have moved here to improve their lives, after all. Disloyal, or perhaps even disgusting?

Why don't you take your own advice then and not accuse me of troll hunting. And don't accuse people of 'abuse' just because they don't agree with you.

Because the choice was taken away from them by ignorant people who would never have travelled anywhere.
Not conflicted at all. Freedom of movement is excellent. So is paying tax in your home nation.
Both are possible.

ProfessorDrPrunesqauler · 23/11/2025 19:57

twistyizzy · 23/11/2025 19:23

But that's selfish and greedy surely? I mean it's what I would do but then people like you would shout "but what about starving children" at me and make me out to be a twat.
You want to reduce wealth inequality yet are happy to perpetuate it as long as it benefits your family.

and here in lies the problem

People don’t want others to have more than them but are happy to make hand outs to family members. Those that receive it are in effect in possession of unearned wealth.

They are perpetuating wealth inequality
but it’s OK if they do it because it doesn’t count

Both are possible.

If you’re living and working somewhere else you don’t pay tax here. Unless you have other stuff going on which most won’t.

You are very annoyed the op left but also annoyed others can’t. It doesn’t stack up.

JHound · 23/11/2025 19:58

How would it be zero? Where would the money go?

Precisely. Champagne socialism at its best if you want to be kind, rank hypocrisy if not.

This doesn’t make you any better as you are perpetuating the very wealth inequality you don’t like

Stay if you want
Your kids can stay if they want

No one else has to in a country that hates those who are high earners, hates those in big houses, hates anyone and everyone that has more than them

Life is too short to put up with this pathetic, envious and quite frankly really scary U.K. rhetoric.
If this Government doesn't see sense, there will be nothing left to run this country and pay for the welfare state

I do hope they don’t listen to the envy politics on SM and by the likes of Raynor

The wealth inequality which is driving young talent away from the country. Being a high earner isn’t enough nowadays to keep your head above water with no family support.

Presumably they are less flexible thinkers than PP and decided that, having been given a chance to curb disgusting behaviour, it was their duty to do so. The fact they would never commit such disgusting acts themselves is surely to their favour.

Entitlement and hypocrisy

user1471453601 · 23/11/2025 20:10

Opening posters premise is crazy. It's like asking if you would get a vaccine against nothing that currently exists.

Taxation isn't something that is done for no reason. The whole entire reason for taxation is to raise money.

Abroad mainly
Spent in admin
Reduced earnings as ‘whats the point ‘
etc

much like the education tax
