That Boris Johnson and Matt Hancock should be prosecuted for the avoidable Covid deaths

LlynTegid · 20/11/2025 17:31

The part 2 report of the Covid inquiry finds that at least 20,000 deaths were avoidable, had restrictions come in a week earlier.

Various other findings confirming the failures of Mr Johnson and Mr Hancock.

I think they should face criminal charges, such as corporate manslaughter given government is an employer. AIBU

Sorry but there shouldn’t have been a lockdown at all. Oh I am absolutely enraged - what about mental health, suicide, job losses etc etc ? Close this enquiry and let’s move on please

There isn’t a country in the world where mistakes weren’t made. Not one.

The fact is that this whole situation was unprecedented. Oh yes, we can all say “they should have been prepared, should have known what to do,” but it’s like a lot of situations, at the time you’re preparing it’s a hypothetical, it’s far different when you’re in the space and it’s real.

And it’s all very well saying that 23000 lives might not have been lost, but A, you can never know that for sure, and B, this was about so much more than just the loss of life. It was about life having to continue at the same time, and the implications of that.

No-one here seems to be acknowledging the negatives of the lockdowns, the effects on children, on teenagers and their mental health, the increase in domestic violence, the loss of livelihoods

As a grieving relative you are of course going to look at what you’ve lost, and ask yourself what if. But as a leader you unfortunately have to be more pragmatic and not let emotions. Cloud your judgement for the right decision.

There isn’t a country in the world where mistakes weren’t made. Not one.

Some countries made bigger mistakes than others and some went on to repeat them.

I don't think there are many countries where their government partied.

Dollymylove · 20/11/2025 19:24

@Thepeopleversuswork are you talking about the Starmer who has spectacularly fucked the British people over in his first year of government or is it a different one?

My DC went to school with a bunch of mainland Chinese kids who were posting by end December that there was an aberrant virus spreading fast. We started being cautious early. I do think the UK was a week too late with the first lockdown but to have gone off half-cocked would equally have brought huge recriminations.

CaspersMum24 · 20/11/2025 17:38

Locked down earlier? 23,000 deaths that could have been avoided if they had done. They should definitely be made to pay in my opinion.

With hindsight and then what? The economy is screwed?

With hindsight I think they should have left everyone in work who wasn’t vulnerable, like me I worked through it, and children in school and looked after the elderly and sick.

InsectsMatter · 20/11/2025 19:28

How many people suffered and died due to these pointless lockdowns. How many school children had their education and lives blighted?

Stay safe, OP 🤡

He’s struggling without a pandemic tbf

A slice of birthday cake and a glass of fizz with the colleagues you work with daily ain't a party in my book.

Couldn’t agree more. And she’s based some of her findings on modelling, when we know modelling is massively flawed.

Honestly, this inquiry is a big massive waste of money. And enough of that has been wasted. No one knew what to do.

No one will ever be locked down again, so there’s not even any need for future lockdown planning. Schools should never have closed and should never close again. Children’s education should not have been sacrificed for the NHS

Spiracles · 20/11/2025 19:32

DuncinToffee · 20/11/2025 19:25

Know what?

That other governments did not "party"?

If you know of other governments that partied, please tell.

Papyrophile · 20/11/2025 19:35

Unless you worked for the design agency I once worked at, where parties were really quite celebratory affairs, I stand by my point that a slice of cake and glass of fizz really doesn't add up to a party in most offices.

Yes, you're being unreasonable.

Posting where? From China? I don't think the Chinese authorities would be allowing anyone to post anything. The Dr that tried to blow the whistle was visited by the police. The people to be held to account are the Chinese government who kept it quiet and let it spread around the world.

Except that’s not what I said is it?

Go on, read back through my post, does it say “there’s not a country in the world where there weren’t parties”? No?

Or do you think that the parties were the only mistakes made.

Stop being so obtuse.

ilovesooty · 20/11/2025 19:40

It hasn't taken long for the Johnson apologists and those who are convinced that Labour would have done worse because they've had it in for them since well before the election to make an appearance.

According to Labour it was. Unlike their curry and beers in Durham. That was "work"

Apparently

Agreed entirely.

The so called parties were massively blown out of all proportion.

Tbf it didn’t take you long with this. Who are these nefarious people you mention in all posts?

No, the parties were not the only mistakes, in fact the parties were not mistakes at all.

I agree about the wasteful nature of the inquiry.
The inevitability vibe regarding future pandemics is irritating too, because the covid pandemic was arguably preventable. A robust inquiry into the origins of it would be far more useful than this waste of everyone's time.

Yep it was a Cummings campaign. It worked as his other campaigns did. Now we have Starmer and co
