Is Mounjaro magic or misery??

CareerChange24 · 19/11/2025 14:52

I know there’s threads for new starters, but I’m looking for advice from those who have been on mounjaro and how they’ve found it.

Food is an addiction for me. Theres sympathy for alcoholics and drug addicts and anorexia. Much less so for those of us addicted to comfort eating. I’m 5’3 and 15 stones now. Getting the weight off is an absolute must now.

I have been on 2.5mg for the past three weeks and lost 12lbs without even trying. I feel nauseous and stomach ache and wiped out. I wanted to exercise alongside taking it but at the moment I couldn’t. I don’t have the energy I look ghostly and feel it.

Id love to hear the positives and negatives because im terrified of long term damage they could do. Also, when something feels too good to be true, theres that voice saying it probably is!

I lost on 2.5 as well but had no symptoms. So went up to 5 and then 7.5.

my only symptoms eventually were feeling cold and losing my hair.
i have lost 25% of me since Christmas (started MJ in Feb)

it is nothing short of magic. In terms of keeping me on track.

obvs stil need to not overeat but it makes that easier.

less snacking.
Drinking less.

Smaller portions.

I don’t think I would have stayed on it if I had felt sick. It’s just not worth ruining my day to day life.

But I was a size 16/14. I’m now a size 10.

perhaps if I had been morbidly obese I may have battled through sickness.

luckily I wasn’t and it wasn’t my experience.

best of luck to you.

crazeekat · 19/11/2025 15:15

5’3, 14 stone, comfort eater
all
My life. Lost 4 stone. Very happy. Blood pressure down, pain issues so much better, off meds.
it is difficult when u come off the eating does come back. U need to be really strict but u need to while u lose change the mind set. This is the key. Not the weight loss. The way I feel I would rather be skinnier and battle to keep weight off than be fat and battle to lose it. I will always have food and weight issues. But it’s managed so much better and mj gave me the tools to do it. I will never say bad about it as it has helped so many. Speak to ur gp.

HansHolbein · 19/11/2025 15:45

I would ask for this to be moved to the WLI section so that you get advice from people actually taking it.

FWIW, I’ve been on it 13 months, no issues or problems. 16st > 8st. Will be on it for life. Not concerned about it either.

BelleEpoque27 · 19/11/2025 15:54

I am about to start (and terrified) and am interested to know, from those who have been overweight long term, lost weight and now come off... would you go back on if you needed to? Like most of us have been off and on WW, or SW, or calorie counting all our lives?

I can't imagine actually sorting out my weight problem and am wondering what life looks like if I do actually lose weight.

Ineedanewsofa · 19/11/2025 16:11

90% magic - 19 weeks in and 20kgs down, all on 2.5mg.
Some nausea and dizziness in the first 6 weeks but that subsided and hasn’t come back. A couple of bouts of fairly horrific constipation that did concern me but have adjusted diet and supplements and things are back to normal.
I am cold a lot of the time now and have lost some hair but I’ve always been a shedder!
My inflammation symptoms (tendon issues, carpal tunnel, bloating) vanished along with the nausea and have not returned. My blood pressure, HRV, resting heart rate and CVo2 max are all vastly improved. I am still drawn to healthier choices and feel full before the ens of a ‘normal’ portion. I’ll stay on 2.5 forever if I have to, hopefully it will get cheaper/microdosing will become more mainstream

JinglingtoChristmas · 19/11/2025 16:17

12pounds in 3 weeks is a lot. What are you eating? If you don’t each enough that can make you feel ill.

I would just stay on 2.5 mg for now.

GLP medication has been around for decades. We know MJ causes an increased risk of thyroid cancer but overall this level of increased risk of multiple types of cancer is less than risk of developing cancer if you’re being obese.

90% of people who stop taking it regain weight which is why many people accept it’s a drug for life.

IsThisLifeNow · 19/11/2025 16:22

its been great for me, 19 month in and I'm 70kg down, gone from a size 26 to a 16 and still losing. I've learned to control the side effects by making changed to my diet, which are healthier habits anyway so that's not a bad thing either.

I've lost all desire for fizzy drinks, which I used to drink a ton of too and stick to lower fat foods, as too much grease makes me nauseous anyway. I suffered terribly from dizziness for a while, till I realised I'd managed to lose my high blood pressure that I'd developed so I was able to stop my medication for that.

My plantar fasciitis has gone, I was in so much pain with that for a very long time and I'm so happy its gone. Ive been overweight my entore life, done all the slimming stuff, scottish slimmers, slimming world, keto, low fat, calorie counting, but this is the lowest weight I've been since I was probably 16 years old

Oh yes, I know - but many people seem to be coming off it at the moment after losing a lot of weight in the past year or so.

If it works as well for me as many others I would be happy to stay on it forever, but the majority don't seem to be doing that (at least at the moment... probably mainly due to price).

bridgetreilly · 19/11/2025 17:05

A friend of mine who has been on MJ since the beginning of the year recently had a heart attack. The doctors were very clear that the MJ was the best thing she could have done for her health, continued giving it to her in hospital, and sent her home with a full pen.

showgirl · 19/11/2025 17:13

I have been on it for a year and have lost 30kgs still have a way to go. My hair is definitely thinner but I am also menopausal so it could be that. It can make me feel a bit icky sometimes and tired but I will take that. I am at my lowest weight for nearly 25 years. My blood pressure is almost perfect and my blood sugars are perfect now (was pre diabetic.) It has changed my life for the better.

I'd say the same. Been on it since April, lost slowly around 2.5 stone so far, not gone higher than 5mg. I've spent twenty five years going round the same cycle of gaining and losing a stone here and there, always creeping up and getting harder to lose. From day 1 this was just much easier to stick to whatever food I had planned. Not much in the way of side effects. OP I really recommend going and looking on the WLI boards and gave a read of one of the threads where people started a while back.

speakingofart · 19/11/2025 17:34

Both. It has utterly changed my relationship with food and helped me lose 50lbs. And it has been utterly miserable at times with side effects. 100% worth it though

CareerChange24 · 19/11/2025 17:40

Thank you ladies. I have felt utterly dreadful today with pain all in my bones like flu and this has picked me up that this is worth it for the results. I haven’t been able to eat much at all which will be making me feel worse. How do you get this moved to the WLI section?

If not too personal, did any of you suffer with loose skin? That’s my other big worry. Wow 16stone down to 8 is incredible. I think my mind can’t even contemplate me halving my body and what I’d feel and look like I’m so used to my current state

Overtheatlantic · 19/11/2025 17:42

I’ve been on Mounjaro since July and have lost 35 lbs, at 162cm. I’ve had very few side effects, and I’m thrilled that my blood pressure is stable and my blood sugar levels are normal. I think too many people build it up and then get “terrified” and I’m not sure what they’re scared about. Take psyllium husk tablets for constipation and l-tyrosine for low mood, and drink loads of water. No pizza.

Mona26 · 19/11/2025 17:43

All my journey i used monj.co.uk as guidance where i can buy it , and now because of price hike it more helpful
the forum and the polices
i di not what i have could done without it

SusanSometimes · 19/11/2025 17:45

It's been magic for me, but I've been lucky and have sailed through without side effects. I've been on it seven months and am about halfway to goal, still on a low dose.

Hang on in there, OP. It'll be worth it.

Mona26 · 19/11/2025 17:45

I lost all my weight and never exceeded 7.5
i used monj.co.uk to get good deals
all listed providers are registered

Buzzlightfear · 19/11/2025 17:48

Magic for me. A few side effects to start with (tiredness, nausea and really really cold 🥶 ) and my hair seems to grow really slowly now (not sure that's a bad thing really! It grew really fast before and it's not really thinning as such)

I've lost seven stone in 18 months so not super fast like some people but I'm happy, no loose skin or anything. Ive got a stone to go but I'm expecting to stay on it for life. It's 100% changed my life

thetallfairy · 19/11/2025 18:03

Life cha going

6 stone down In 12 months

I was a compulsive binge eater after extreme DV

I did not know how to get my life back

MJ is incredible

Some nausea if I am presented with too much food but not that common

Extreme tiredness in the first few weeks of 10mg

And that was it for me

Some lose skin around my tummy but not much
It is life changing and I really carefully considered if I should or should not do it

Glad that I really so many inspirational stories on here ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

SilenceInside · 19/11/2025 18:06

It's not magic, and it's not misery. For me, it's been a highly effective medication that has enabled me to move from being morbidly obese with a BMI of 50, to being just a little overweight at a BMI of 26 and still losing weight. I started at 22 stone and am now 11st 7lbs, and currently on 10mg dose. Size 24 plus, down to size 14. Started July 2024.

I am so much healthier than I was. I am fitter and more physically capable, and as a result I am doing so much more in my daily life than I did before. I have more confidence and I am more content and happier than I have been for decades. I run regularly and walk everywhere, fast! My BP has reduced to optimal, from being high normal even with medication. I have had two blood tests whilst on Mounjaro, as part of my BP medication review, and all my results are in the expected range. I have no concerns about any supposed "long term damage" that people like to predict!

I have not had any real side effects for many months now. I generally feel normal and well, lots of energy. I do feel the cold more now but I don't mind that really.

I have some crepey skin and bits of me that hang more than I'd like, but I have to be realistic that I am in my late 40s, two pregnancies both ending in C sections - things are not going to be what they were! I absolutely love what I look like in clothes now, and my DP doesn't mind what I look like without, so that's all good. I think that over time, once my weight has stayed low for as long as I've been losing, that things will gradually improve. I will continue to work on my fitness and strength which will also help. The fact is that I have been obese or morbidly obese for decades, my skin has been well and truly pushed to its limits!

I don't know if I will take Mounjaro long term for maintenance. I'd like to be able to stop taking it and maintain, but I am prepared to see what will happen. I am certain I will never let my BMI get into the 27 plus range ever again and I am happy that I can access Mounjaro in order to achieve that.

LadyRoughDiamond · 19/11/2025 18:27

Mounjaro has been fantastic for me - hardly any side effects, great results. I’ve lost 2.5 stones since August.

Saxenda and Wegovy (both Liraglutide based) were, however, horrendous. I was sick, felt exhausted, and suffered a very low mood so had to stop.

It’s definitely worth persevering and seeing what works for you as all weight loss jabs are different.

GFBurger · 19/11/2025 18:34

I am so sorry you are feeling sick with it.

I had to come off of MJ as I just ended up not being able to get off the sofa after a month, I just felt so sick. But the stone I lost on it has stayed off so was still a mild win! There’s lots of info elsewhere about microdosing it and hacking your jabs to a smaller dose - but that’s not strictly approved. Does make me wonder if some people should start on a lower dose though.
