Is Mounjaro magic or misery??

I know there’s threads for new starters, but I’m looking for advice from those who have been on mounjaro and how they’ve found it.

Food is an addiction for me. Theres sympathy for alcoholics and drug addicts and anorexia. Much less so for those of us addicted to comfort eating. I’m 5’3 and 15 stones now. Getting the weight off is an absolute must now.

I have been on 2.5mg for the past three weeks and lost 12lbs without even trying. I feel nauseous and stomach ache and wiped out. I wanted to exercise alongside taking it but at the moment I couldn’t. I don’t have the energy I look ghostly and feel it.

Id love to hear the positives and negatives because im terrified of long term damage they could do. Also, when something feels too good to be true, theres that voice saying it probably is!

I’ve just restarted it. Went from 11st 5 to 7st 5 between last October to July just gone. I stopped because at 7st 5 I looked skeletal, really unwell and yes I had the loose skin. I then put 2 stone back on over the course of 2 months and was showing no signs of the weight gain slowing down, so I’ve gone back onto 2.5mg (was on 5mg) and accepted I’m on it for life now. I won’t go back to 5mg. It works for me, I find it exhausting constantly thinking about food, feeling guilty about food, planning food. I can have a jab once a week and just get on with my life like ‘normal’ people.

Been on mounjaro (12.5) for about a year. Currently well over 6 stone down with another 5 stone to go. I was put on it because of unstable diabetes.

Now diabetes is stable, I feel so much better. No side effects to speak of.

It isnt a diet, it isnt miraculous. You still have to do the diet work yourself but mounjaro makes that easier.

Be aware that the starter dose of 2.5 isnt therapeutic. A lot of people have to go up through the doses to feel the effect.

I lost 5 5 stone in 10 months. I'm now 12 months maintaining and have dropped from 12 5mg to 2.5mg.

I imagine I will need to remain on 2.5mg for the time being as I'm currently able to talk myself out of bad food choices and I have a clear understanding of how much I can eat to maintain, on this dose.

Sallycinnamum · 19/11/2025 19:49

I started in May and have lost 2.5stone altogether taking me from a 16 to a 12.

Its been a bit grim at times due to nausea and fatigue but the joy at wearing a size 12 mini skirt has been worth it! Oh and I can't tolerate alcohol at all-makes me terribly sick.

This is my last pen as I just don't want to stay on it long term and I am a bit anxious about my appetite roaring back but 100% its been worth it.

Well it sounds like you have flu.

I have lost five and a half stone on MJ since January. I have lost 38% of my body weight going from size 16 to size 8/10.

Yes, I am freezing cold in winter, and have had some constipation and tiredness. On the other hand my arthritis inflammation is almost zero so I am not in pain nearly so much. Can’t face alcohol often, another win.

My cholesterol level has reduced from 8.75 to 3.20.

Keep going. 💐

I’ve lost 2 stone relatively easily. No nausea which concerned me before I started. HOWEVER, I have just stopped as my hair is coming out in clumps, handfuls of it when I shower, or even run my hands through it. I need to decide what to do because I can cover the thin/bald patches currently but that’ll become impossible if the loss continues at this rate. Am really disappointed this has happened.

Thank you ladies. I have felt utterly dreadful today with pain all in my bones like flu and this has picked me up that this is worth it for the results. I haven’t been able to eat much at all which will be making me feel worse. How do you get this moved to the WLI section?

If not too personal, did any of you suffer with loose skin? That’s my other big worry. Wow 16stone down to 8 is incredible. I think my mind can’t even contemplate me halving my body and what I’d feel and look like I’m so used to my current state

I was on Mounjaro for 6 months and lost just over 2.5 stones. I never felt sick, got a little bit of a headache sometimes, a tiny bit of nausea, but that passed. I ended up on one of the higher doses and still felt ok. I don't think I'd keep on with something that makes you feel so terrible tbh.

In the last 2 months I have not gained anything back, but am watchful and very careful with my food, I will immediately go on a maintenance dose if I start to gain back again.

It's wonderful for some people. I'm overweight and Type 2 diabetic.

My GP won't give it to me, but I'm on several other medications and he doesn't think this is the right time.

It's a miracle, but isn't for everyone.

GnomeDePlume · 20/11/2025 09:54

@XWKD it is tricky with other medication. Weightloss can reduce dosages necessary but the speed of absorption can be changed plus a change in diet can affect things. I have lost 30% of my bodyweight. T2 diabetic, I need less levothyroxine but more warfarin.

My sympathy for you trying to manage multiple things at the same time

jay55 · 20/11/2025 11:00

I’m a year in. It’s magic but not without its difficulties.
The exhaustion you mention as your body gets used to performing on a deficit is really tough but loads of people get past that, work out their macros for optimum loss and energy and then get on with the exercise.

MBL · 20/11/2025 11:05

I wish you luck with your journey. I really think these drugs are transformative for many people. And there should be no stigma attached to using them.

I think however you overestimate how much sympathy there is for alcoholics, drug addicts and anorexics.

Titasaducksarse · 20/11/2025 11:30

Hi. It's the most fantastic aid. That's how I see it. Magic....at times...I'm amazed how my brain function around food has altered.
In the scheme of things some might say I'm a slow loser. I've lost 3 stone this whole year but that is pretty much what the manufacturers say should be the rate in this time, not those losing masses very quickly you see in the press.

I'm regularly working out, my joints have stopped aching and I generally feel great. Side effects...nausea sometimes and reflux if I eat too much or too fatty...but I shouldn't do that anyway!

DumpedByText · 20/11/2025 11:33

I felt really unwell on MJ and only lost a stone.

I had a gap of a year, and I've been on Wegovy for a month and lost 10lb with minimal symptoms.Occasional constipation, and headache but that's it.

Plus it's cheaper, try Juniper their support is amazing.
