Do all cats bring you “gifts”

Friend is finding a home for her neighbour’s (who has died) cat. I like animals but my only hesitation is coming across a half eaten rodent in my home. It is a huge fear of mine. Do all cats do this?

There is another family who can take the cat (already have one) but my friend is offering him to us first. DD (10) has been wanting a cat for ages but we’ve just never got around to it

I had one who brought me endless quantities of (clean) underwear, along with gloves (gardening ones in summer, wooly ones in winter). And the occasional toad, which left him foaming from the mouth for about an hour which was very amusing.

So if your cat brings you gifts, don't assume it'll be rodents - it literally could be anything! (I've got one currently who brings snakes...)

Oh I forgot. One of ours used to bring in slow worms. I love reptiles so that was fine and I would just remove them back to the garden.

Our girl who has been the only one to bring in mice is truly cunning. She brings them in alive, then puts them in our bath tub. They can[t escape and she has a merry time chasing them until we realise and rescue them. DH always says she would have made an excellent Field Marshall. She hates our older 21 year old cat and waits until the latter is doing her business in the litter tray before she attacks. It's quite exceptionally clever.

Mine brings absolutely nothing. Never killed anything in his life (to my knowledge). He has a little trot round the garden and the neighbour’s garden and that’s about it, will bask in the sun in nice weather but otherwise he’ll be inside. He’s a lover not a fighter, far more interested in his toys, cuddles and a warm lap with the telly on.

Sometimes I really feel like I hit the jackpot with my little soul cat Blush

I had a female cat called Moose. She regularly bought me green slime from next doors pond. Very pleased with it she was too. Meowing at me till I stroked her and told her she was a clever girl. She was a lovely cat.

My cat has literally never brought a gift home as he is the worst hunter ever. Sometimes he sits looking longingly at the wood pigeons but then just lumbers towards them uselessly. Sometimes, we drop a piece of chicken on the floor for him and have to point at it repeatedly for about two minutes before he clocks what is going on and makes his way over, so I'm not unduly worried about him becoming a killing machine any time soon.

My last cat looked as if he'd be a great hunter, very big and powerful, but he was also inept. He used to stalk birds quite well, but as soon as he got anywhere close he would start miaowing loudly and then look confused when they all flew off. He never seemed to make the connection, which I was happy about as cleaning up disembowelled prey is not my idea of fun.

That's what my girl does, loads of meowing, then confusion as to why the would-be-prey just left. It's rather cute - and handy eh?!
