To not be happy with this on my medical record ?

I was seen by an OOH doctor about a few things. The report says anxiety and ‘seems to want to bring up other issues, after one is finished. Even after 40 minutes of talking’.

OP posts:

Rude.

As are all the posters who seemingly cant wait to stick the knife in on an appointment that is frankly none of their business how long it took

How unprofessional to put that on your notes

Not unprofessional if it's true. Lying would be unprofessional.

NautilusLionfish · 18/11/2025 03:55

@Peach68 am sorry you are upset. But flip it. Perhaps the doctor is trying to make sure other medical professionals that see your knows look out for any other issues. Let's say he thinks you have anxiety but can diagnose because that's nor his speciality. But he puts these notes, indicating to colleagues who might read your file later why he thinks so (excessive need to talk) , isn't that a good thing? You say you didn't think you were there for 40 mins but it's good that you don't outright deny this. Do be gentle with yourself. There is nothing embarrassing about this. If for any reason you might be anxious or lonely may be take this as the push you need to consult the relevant doc or speak with your GP. Don't stress about this. I have had a GP stick her finger up my bum then tell me. Oh I am not sure you have piles or not. There is some poo in there. I was momentarily embabut truth is I didn't know there was poo. And told myself it's OK. They encounter poo and much more. Am sure it's on my recors now but you know what, it's never going to be broadcast on BBC news at 7 or on the local Facebook page. It's really nothing to be embarrassed or upset about

Well, tbh I didn’t go in about anxiety. It was about something else but it was all put down to anxiety. I don’t think/feel like I was in there for 40 minutes. There was no one else in the waiting room so wasn’t busy

Well, it seems you were! I doubt the Dr made it up…

Bignosenobum · 18/11/2025 04:05

Even if you were that is churlish thing to say by the gp. You can complain to the practice manager and the personal comment at the end is unprofessional and fails to address the actual and real mental health problem. It's just a poor entry into your notes. You can challenge and put your own version out there and get it added to your notes. I am speaking as a former senior mental health nurse.

Bignosenobum · 18/11/2025 04:07

Doctors get paid a lot of money and has failed to address the primary issue. They don't realise that it may take longer if you are anxiety. X

Natsku · 18/11/2025 04:32

The problem with having anxiety in your notes is that doctors have a tendency to blame women's issues on anxiety if they see it already in the notes, has happened to me a few times because I once was diagnosed with anxiety, which had been treated with extensive therapy but doesn't matter, once anxiety always anxiety to some doctors.

Lastfroginthebox · 18/11/2025 03:52

Doctors have plenty of other things to do as well as face to face appointments. Writing up notes for a start...

Indeed and they will have a screen full of patients to triage and deal with. They will only call a certain proportion in to be seen face to face. I'd say about a quarter of patients a doctor will speak to in an out of hours evening would be face to face so an empty waiting room should not affect the time taken to see you. I would take that comment as a plea to the out of hours service provider not to fire them for inefficiency (telephone calls /notes are reviewed randomly by oohs for quality checks).

Unfortunately if a doctor gets just one patient who misunderstands what oohs is for (keeping patients alive until their regular GP can take over), it can affect the workflow for an entire evening.

I was a teacher. Some people think the job consists entirely of standing in front of a class and teaching. One woman even told me she couldn't be a teacher because it would be so boring just sitting at a desk all day watching the kids work!

Thedogscollar · 18/11/2025 01:26

Yes I agree.
Can't people see the bigger picture.
The OP obviously needed that time, if the GP was needed elsewhere they just needed to end the consultation sooner.

This. It’s not the patients job to make sure the appointment runs to time.

Also this. I’ve been having investigations for a health problem for 6 years and they’ve said that “must be anxiety” even though IT ABSOLUTELY MAKES NO SENSE 🤬🤣

Thebigonesgetaway · 18/11/2025 08:52

I’m not really sure that note is code for hysterical, seems fairly factual to me. And it also doesn’t say the doctor objected to the 40 mins either, they could have shut the appt down. Lastly the fact the op didn’t feel or think it was 40 mins, doesn’t mean it wasn’t. She never said that.

op, is it not accurate?

@Peach68 already said she went in for something unrelated to anxiety. Whatever she went in for hasn’t been mentioned in the notes, only anxiety - so it’s not really accurate is it?

itsthetea · 18/11/2025 09:24

It’s accurate if the doctor could see anxiety in front of him / it isn’t the patient who does the diagnosis and it isn’t the doctors role to ignore anything the patient doesn’t mention

So let’s say OP went in with severe stomach pains.

OOH has decided it’s anxiety.

Note doesn’t mention the main. Subsequent appointment - no record of history of stomach pains. Diagnosis potentially missed.

If she’s gone in with physical symptoms that haven’t been mentioned, then the note isn’t accurate is it? The notes are to inform future doctors what was discussed in the consultation.

Presumably that was not the entire note, just the part op takes exception to. There is probably also the actual symptoms and any treatment prescribed or recommended listed.

BauhausOfEliott · 18/11/2025 09:43

A lot of people on Mumsnet seem to think doctors have to be polite in medical notes, or that the notes are there for the patient, or that the patient gets to decide what’s relevant. None of this is really the case. The doctor records their personal, factual observations of the patient that they feel is relevant from a medical perspective and which would be helpful to either them or another doctor.

The fact that you spent 40 minutes bringing up multiple issues at an emergency appointment is a factual observation and is absolutely relevant.

If your medical notes said ‘patient is a heavy cannabis user’ when you’ve never touched weed in your life, then that would be something it would be reasonable for you to ask to be removed from your notes, because it would be untrue and misleading. But stating that you spoke for 40 minutes about lots of things at an emergency appointment is a factual observation and not at all misleading. It’s a relevant piece of information for the doctor to consider.

You’ve no idea what else was in the notes.

You don’t know what it says, surely you can’t see what the note says. And I’m not sure you know what she went in for either, and if the doctor diagnoses anxiety I’m not sure you’re in the position you think you are to say this is a misdiagnosis? Your post is baffling.

itsthetea · 18/11/2025 10:14

Well perhaps the diagnosis was anxiety and you just don’t like it ?

you explain symptoms and they do their best to work out what might be wrong

not saying that doctors don’t get it wrong and can be quick to diagnose mental health issues - but for me the 40mins is a bit of a give away that it’s not a simple physical thing or that the OP was “ah but…” to everything

AmberFlag · 18/11/2025 10:16

I’m going from what OP has said: she went in about something unrelated to anxiety, but it has all been reduced to anxiety in the note.

And yes, it’s entirely feasible that’s all that was in the note. These notes are always rushed, not detailed, and I’ve had this exact scenario before - actual concern ignored and everything reduced to anxiety.

ThePure · 18/11/2025 10:22

He took 40 minutes! If this was an uncaring Dr brushing it all off as anxiety then do you really think he would have wasted 40 mins on an emergency OOH shift doing that??

Onmytod24 · 18/11/2025 10:31

So you was there for 40 minutes you haven’t got back to us but what did the doctor say in that time or were you talking the whole time? It all sounds very vague. I won’t be worried about the notes. I’ve been more concerned in getting treatment for whatever condition you primarily went in there for an 00H appointment.
