To not be happy with this on my medical record ?

I was seen by an OOH doctor about a few things. The report says anxiety and ‘seems to want to bring up other issues, after one is finished. Even after 40 minutes of talking’.

Well, the inference does seem to be that the medical need wasn’t genuine so I can understand you not being happy it’s on there. However, it’s a tricky one. If someone is perhaps a bit of a hypochondriac it does need flagging.

Urmam · 17/11/2025 22:26

Are you able to explain why the appointment took so long? Was it lots of interrelated issues?

Lougle · 17/11/2025 22:29

@Peach68 you don't need to be worried. The doctor may have been concerned for you and is just flagging that you might need follow up.

Do you feel like you have anxiety, or did you just save up all your symptoms until you couldn't ignore them anymore and let them all out at once?

ItWasTheBabycham · 17/11/2025 22:43

Even with a private GP, appointments are limited to 15 minutes. 40 minutes is a therapy session. You’re being selfish.

Notsurewhatisnormalanymore · 17/11/2025 22:24

Omg people, be kind! OP could literally have been suicidal!

She wouldn't be given an ooh gp appointment for that also i don't think she would be hurt by it saying she was anxious if that was the case

ThePure · 17/11/2025 23:03

They can write anything on there that is true and medically relevant. Is the comment untrue? It is of relevance to your situation/ future care so the only objection you can legitimately have to it is if it is untrue.

Do you think people in mental health crisis act rationally? And tell the receptionist exactly what is wrong with them prior to the appt? Or anyone for that matter? All I said is ‘be kind’ and you have a problem with my hypothesis that she ‘could’ be suicidal? Crikey.

Peach68 · 17/11/2025 23:08

Well, tbh I didn’t go in about anxiety. It was about something else but it was all put down to anxiety. I don’t think/feel like I was in there for 40 minutes. There was no one else in the waiting room so wasn’t busy

The Doctor is saying that in their opinion you talk a lot, don't stick to the subject, are time blind (self absorbed?) and they relate it to anxiety

I'd say these comments will be very useful for their colleagues when you next see a Doctor

Senseandsensitivity · 17/11/2025 23:33

Hi Op, i dont think what theyve written is a bad reflection on you. Its sounds like they are saying you are anxious and had a lot of issues on your mind.

Im sure the same could be said for many people.
It might be difficult to get this changed on your record as it is the doctors opinion, you may not agree with them saying it is anxiety but their comment cannot really be wiped out. You can have errors of fact corrected, and if something non medical opinion related is in dispute, you could get a corrective comment included . Its called right of rectification, but im not sure you are disagreeing that you brought up other issues after 45 minutes, are you?
I'm putting all the relevant info below but id say there is nothing wrong with you having more issues to raise after you had already talked for a while.

If they haven't included anything about the issues you went in for, I'd be pissed too. Some doctors still think all women are hysterical, if they get an idea you're anxious they won't be able to see past that.

Onlyontuesday · 18/11/2025 00:45

I can see why you don't like it, but it sounds like it may have been accurate? While not necessarily flattering it's an observation written objectively and it is relevant to others involved in your care.

Kindly I think this is a lesson for you that the scope of kind of appointment is time limited even if the waiting room is empty. The doctors workload won't be limited to what you can see.

ThePure · 18/11/2025 00:53

He will have written it as part of the justification for his conclusion that the symptoms are due to anxiety. That is his clinical opinion and you might not like or agree with it but I can’t see how you could get it removed as it is not factually incorrect.

OnGoldenPond · 18/11/2025 00:58

The private GPs near me allow bookings of half hour, hour, or hour and a half appointments depending on how much you want to pay. A longer session would be ideal to discuss a lot of symptoms that might be linked to the same underlying condition that a standard NHS GP 10 minute appointment with strict instructions to only discuss one issue would never pick up. I would agree that it’s not appropriate to take up this much time in an OOH NHS GP appointment though.

AutumnAllTheWay · 18/11/2025 01:09

Rude.

As are all the posters who seemingly cant wait to stick the knife in on an appointment that is frankly none of their business how long it took

How unprofessional to put that on your notes

Crazybigtoe · 18/11/2025 01:13

The Dr would have cut the appt if they thought it wasnt necessary. I know I have been asked to book an additional appointment before. As they didn't do this, it means that you needed to speak, the Dr was ok with this and noted it.

I wouldn't be concerned.

Yes I agree.
Can't people see the bigger picture.
The OP obviously needed that time, if the GP was needed elsewhere they just needed to end the consultation sooner.

They are hinting at another diagnosis but not saying or referring.

I hate this shit.

You need to go back to your GP.

The issue being you may very well not be in a place to able to.

I'm so sorry OP. This was awful.

I hope you have support.

Tryingatleast · 18/11/2025 01:36

It’s an odd one but I’d say necessary because they know you have things that might be affecting you x

Ka1233 · 18/11/2025 02:10

Just fyi I don’t care if you spend an hour in there. I hope you get the help you need. And it’s fine to be “selfish” because if you don’t advocate for yourself no one else will. These comments are ridiculous

Agree. I once had a GP who you would regularly wait for an hour to see - bit when you needed her she’d spend an hour with you. She was fantastic and saved my life more than once. Surely GP’s must be trained in ending an appointment tactfully-they must get lonely elderly people in all the time with multiple missies due to age, or who would sit there all day otherwise.

Bobbie12345678 · 18/11/2025 03:16

Is there a chance that you felt like it was ok for you to keep raising things because it didn’t seem busy?
That could have been quite frustrating for the doctor who likely also has results to go through, paperwork to do, phone consults to get to.

PenguinLover24 · 18/11/2025 03:23

In the past when I've been in appointments (scheduled and emergency) and I've been at breaking point and suicidal I always brought up WHY and they said things like this in my notes. Well yes, that's because there is an underlying reason for this current state of distress that has never been addressed and I have never been listened to regarding it. My notes say things like I was abusive when I was hysterically begging for help (no shouting or swearing, just crying and begging). I was so upset to see this on my notes but I'm past caring now.

Doctors have plenty of other things to do as well as face to face appointments. Writing up notes for a start...
